Streaming Discussion - Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, Oh My!

This is where you can talk about TV Shows & Movies that are in the Streaming Selection, DVD releases, News, and your everyday Netflix customer problems. I will also post new when new TV Shows & Movies get added to their Instant Streaming.

If you didn't know Netflix already has ended their Qwikster plan (Even before it started), walked away from its Starz content deal, but there is some good news. On Thursday, the Warner Brothers Television Group of Time Warner and the CBS Corporation announced a $1 billion deal that will give Netflix the rights to stream shows broadcast on the CW network for at least the next eight years. They also started adding hundreds of movies from Paramount, Sony, Universal, Fox, Warner Bros., Lionsgate, MGM and Miramax. Plus added over 3,500 TV episodes from ABC, NBC, FOX, CBS, USA, E!, Nickelodeon, Disney Channel, ABC Family, Discovery Channel, TLC, SyFy, A&E, History, and PBS. Plus they are expanding their Asian Movie Selection In Deal With Korea's Top Studio CJ E&M.

Interesting streaming releases in the past week include Damages, Nikita, One Tree Hill, The Princess of Montpensier, Casino Jack, Steal, and Paranormal Activity 2.

Some instant streaming TV shows that I am looking forward to watch after I finish my Every Power Rangers Ever Marathon (currently on SPD) is Malcolm in the Middle, InuYasha, State of Georgia, The Vampire Diaries, The Biggest Loser, Clean House, The Bernie Mac Show, and most of the Marvel shows.

Indeed it is; it's only frustrating if you discover that your favorite show/movie isn't available on Netflix, be it as a streaming option or to be shipped as a DVD.

(dammit Disney, why won't you yield and put your animated films on Netflix!? )

Man I waste so much time watching netflix. No lie this past week I watched 24 episodes of Bleach, 5 movies and 6 episodes of Soul Eater. It would of been more of Soul Eater but my wife likes it so we only watch it together. Bleach she hates so I throw my headphones on and watch.

They do? Which ones? I know Pixar has some of their more recent films up there, but I don't recall anything else.

Because that would make it harder for them to put them back in the Disney Vault whenever they want.

Right now, there are only 2 Disney animated movies that on Netflix Instant Streaming: Tangled and Toy Story 3. I remember movies like Up, The Princess and The Frog, Ponyo, Bolt, and A Christmas Carol on there but they are now removed.

The Disney movies they have on Netflix are directly tied to the Starz package that Netflix won't have in a few months. They only can stream whatever Disney movies are durrently showing on Starz that month. So if you subscribe to Starz, these are the same movies that you could stream from on-demand this month. Come January (I think) none of that will be available anymore.

And I wouldn't expect to see Disney movies make a return to Netflix streaming anytime soon. Disney is a very particular company when it comes to their brand and whatnot. If they made every animated film available for streaming, they couldn't make money off of it when they wheel it out from "the vault" every five years. It's just the way they do business. When I worked at a video store there were a ton of classic Disney movies that we did not have to rent because people would keep them or kids would scratch them and we'd have no way of replacing it.

Oh no, I understand that. I'm just lamenting the fact that it's Disney policy to keep as tight of a hold on their properties as much as they can.

Not to mention the poor animators that are pretty much tied to Disney for life...

The Disney Vault thing is such bullshit in general. It's just a way for Disney to make more money.

Honestly, if they made more movies available on things like Netflix, they'd actually... make money. Who'da thunk?

Netflix has to buy them to stream them, and movie studios are demanding insane prices for them. It's why Netflix is such in a hurry to increase prices and divide services, because otherwise they literally can't afford to bring content to the service.

Netflix is in trouble on a couple of fronts. One of them being the movie studios, yes, but another one is Internet providers such as Comcast who are getting sick of Netflix lagging their service, and they too are starting to charge out the ass for Netflix to continue to be allowed on their services.

We dedicated an entire two-hour class in my Mass Media class to talking about the pros and cons of Netflix.

In theory, Netflix is fantastic. In execution, it's pretty damn poor.

It's not Netflix's fault. It's the massive amount of people trying to use Netflix at any given time.

I wonder if they'll still offer video games in the future though.
