Logistically, it might be easier to film sooner rather than later. If the sets are still standing, props and costumes not yet in storage, actors under contract with no conflicts, it could make more sense to film it now. If they wait and pack everything up and have the cast and crew go off in every direction and put all the props and sets into storage, it could just create more of a logistical hassle (and possibly increased expense).
Yeah, I mean they already have been greenlit for a 7th season, there's really no reason not to just continue on filming, unless an actor is busy elsewhere or something (which clearly isn't the case, or they wouldn't move forward on filming). Plus, since the seasons are shorter as well, they don't have to worry about fatigue as much for the actors involved. The longer shows in most cases have been known to be grueling for the actors because of how many hours are involved in shooting. Shorter episode seasons does make it easier on them.

Unless it clashes with MCU's state of affairs, but I guess Marvel is lowering the stakes a bit after Endgame.

What if they opted to shoot early this time so they could work with the films more? The complaint was always the timelines of production made using the wider cinematic connections tricky. A movie couldn't shoot around a show's schedule and the show would be held up on the film's end while still needing to fill air time. Do it early, with other things shooting, and you've got yourself a potential timeframe to make a movie connection actually meaningful.

I have a feeling that season 7 will end up airing a lot sooner.. maybe as early as this fall. I think the only reason we had to wait so long for season 6 is because the writers didn't want to deal with the snap.

That will not happen. Kevin Feige straight up loathes Marvel Television and wishes they weren't allowed to play in his sandbox. Unless the someone higher up in the Disney organization came up with a compelling reason to force him to, Feige isn't going to be sharing his toys. And since the MCU continues to crank out billion dollar movies, there's no reason for anyone at Disney to want to rock the boat.

Interview with Gregg

https://io9.gizmodo.com/agents-of-sh...-th-1833462809

"Coulson goes off to Tahiti with Agent May at the end of season five without much time left and it was a very moving, sad thing the show did. We thought we were maybe done. Then they picked us up for two seasons, and at a certain point they asked me to direct an episode, and sat me down to explain some of this season. One of the things were exploring is an idea that while half the teams out in space trying to find the other timeline cryogenically frozen Leo Fitz, the other half of the team is here grieving and trying to put SHIELD back together with Agent MacKenzie running it, which is exciting to me because Henry Simmons is so amazing.

Theres some strange anomaly happening that feels like a very threatening rupture every time it occurs and there are these people, these humanoid people who show up in the footage and one of them looks a lot like Coulson. Hes bad, hes dangerous, and terrifying. Hes a different person and its difficult for everyone to cope with, but especially Agent May and Daisy.

I never heard him saying anything critical of the MCU shows and it's Perlmutter he loathes, not Marvel Television.

So the July announcement was a complete waste of time.

Good job, ABC.

If New Coulson isn't US Archer, that's just a missed opportunity there.

Huh? We've know it would be airing in May for a while, we just didn't know what week.

So apparently they're confident they'll get an eighth season

At this point, I can't really tell if it's confidence or "we didn't even expect seven so who even knows at this point".

Perhaps it'd be best just to outline a new storyline across these next two seasons and see where it goes. They don't have to get too cocky like Stargate SG-1 did when they kept getting renewed to the point they were putting together all new storylines to take them into the next decade or so only for the curtain to come down (though even then, tv movies helped them through tie things up)

Funnily enough, season 9-10 of SG-1 was originally planned to be a sequel series called Stargate Command as the writing staff planned to end SG-1 with season eight after three previous attempts to end the show only for it be renewed instead, given that said season wrapped up the Goa'uld myth arc and the last two focused on the Ori myth arc, though Ba'al remained as a recurring villain for the last two seasons.
