It was definitely Fast Five.

The original plan when Vin came back was a proper trilogy with Dom that never came to be the first time. When Fast Five exploded, Universal and the cast just decided to keep rocking it 'til the wheels fall off.
now it's just a matter of wondering when the wheels will finally fall off for this series, franchise, you would think it would have declined in popularity after Paul Walker no longer being around, which overseas countries have definetley contributed the most to its box-office success? I'm having difficulty looking it up on Box-Office mojo, it mainly just discusses its world-wide totals and domestic totals.

now I wonder when the films will start to cool off at the box-office, since that's the main reason why the franchise has been going on this long, it makes too much money at the box-office, and most of its money comes from overseas, outside of North America. Plus, I figure Universe wants to have a franchise so it can compete with Disney.
In the US it has slowed down. Overseas though, that's a different story! When my brother saw Fast 7 in DR it was packed. The Fast films are also big in China and Asia and other parts of Latin America. The women can't get enough of Vin Diesel.

I would have thought the death of Paul Walker would have made the series decline in popularity, my guess that is mainly for the U.S., but not outside of U.S.

I don't see why it would. The series and actors gave Paul a great send off, so there's no reason for fans to abandon it. Many still love the other characters from these movies enough for it to keep going.

Did Dwayne Johnson have any good movies pre-F&F5?
Tons of his movies have done well before he was in that film. Scorpion King spinoff, Walking Tall, Gridiron gang and The Game Plan to name a few.

i guess i'm one of the few people who wish the series would end already, been too many sequels already, but of course at the end of the day, its all business.
So the original plan was a proper trilogy with Dom that never came to be the first time., that first time of the proper trilogy that was planned, was Fast Five originally meant to be the first film in that planned trilogy but later scrapped?

Can't believe John Cena is going to join this franchise now. Seeing him and the Rock onscreen is going to be crazy though. Never thought that was possible after their last Wrestlemania match against each other.

The Rock won't be in Fast 9 because of his on-going feud with Vin Diesel. That's why John Cena is joining.

It's interesting how far this series has gone and has turned itself around considering the history with the first few films. The first did good numbers, however the second didn't fare as well. Then Tokyo Drift came along and almost put the franchise into straight to DVD territory.

^ Interesthing for real, them they had to bring Van Diesel and the others for push up the Franchise again !!! The Audience wanted more the Story of Don and Walker ! The Franchise continues with diferent names, but The Rock and Vin Diesel dont act together maybe because both want the spotlight, and now with John Cena is going to show this going to be crazy

that's why I said at the end of the day, its all business, and businesses exist for one reason only, to make money, but ya, Fast Five definetley was the turning point in this franchise.
