This is the Jeopardy! thread

Harvey Levin did an interview with Alex Trebek for the series Objectified, where the game show veteran was asked if he will renew his contract when it ends two years from now. Alex stated he's 50/50 about continuing right now, maybe a little less. When asked about a replacement, his first suggestion was a man who provides commentary on Los Angeles Kings hockey games, a fellow Alex named Alex Faust, who himself just replaced longtime Kings commentator Bob Miller.

With time marching on, the rumors of him departing first coming about years ago, and especially his recent health scare, I've had a lot of time to get used to the idea, but nobody else seems like they can bring quite the same level of equal parts prestige and humor that Trebek does.

It'll be something when that fateful day comes, whenever it does. Of all the game shows, Jeopardy! is the only one that has been a tradition for everyone in my house as long as I've been alive. His version literally debuted the year I was born.

It'll be interesting. I mean I don't really watch Jeopardy or Wheel of Fortune, but I have now and then in the past. Still, those shows are just iconic and for more than one generation. Having Trebek leave would be a big one. Also makes you wonder, if he did and they brought in a new host would executives try to modify the show somehow, spice it up or something. With Trebek gone would they consider making changes that they couldn't get away with while he was there. And just in general, would the show be able to continue on. Then again Price is Right I imagine is doing just fine with Drew Carey at the wheel, so a new host probably wouldn't cause too much of a shake up.

I suggest Kathy Griffin.

Now that would make Jeopardy entertaining.

It wouldbt be the same unless Darrel Hammond shows up as Sean Connery at least once a month.

Before they choose a permanent host they should do a musical chairs of celebrities hosts

It's not like other hosting jobs where you have to be lively. Ferrell having to contain himself would be interesting.

I think they'll approach Ken Jennings or Austin from last year about taking over but I think they might go the Price is Right route and choose it out of left field sort of.

An alum would be awesome, but big studios don't trust "normals" with a household brand, so it would probably never happen.

Though, Ken's composure and Austin's snoody cockiness combined pretty much make Alex Trebek.

If Alex Trebek does retire, they should just end the show. Trebek, just like Bob Barker is to The Price IS Right is Jeopardy! The Price Is Right hasn't been the same since Bob retired and it will be the same with Jeopardy!

Does it need to be the same to be worth continuing? I admit I don't watch the show, never have. But if people want to watch people answer (or rather, ask?) trivia they might watch regardless of who's hosting, provided they have a decent personality.

Yeah, Jeopardy! is all about showing your friends and family all the obscure stuff you spent so long teaching yourself, the host injecting a bunch of distractions like Drew Carey's theme episodes or Steve Harvey making fun of contestants won't happen on a Merv Griffin Productions show.

...Oh dear god, Jeopardy's new host is gonna be Steve Harvey, isn't it?

I agree!! I remember when Pat Sajak guest hosted and he played it pretty straight compared to Wheel of Fortune.

They should do it like an inverse "Wheel of Fortune," where Vanna reads the questions and Pat Sajak touches the clues on the board.

Seriously, though, it would need to have an iconic game show celebrity as a host if it were to continue on. It's not like it's on a network, so there's no way that, say, someone from "Good Morning America" will show up. As long as it's not someone who's overplayed and is hosting a million other things right now, I'll be fine with whoever they pick. On the subject of Kathy Griffin, why not let Anderson Cooper host it?

Jeopardy!'s new host is gonna be Michael Strahan, isn't it?

Nah, he's contractually obligated to ABC. Jeopardy, being syndicated, is not, so there's a chance that he won't.

Ooh, how about Ricki Lake? She did "Gameshow Marathon" 10 years ago with Rich Fields, so maybe the two of them could take over?

I actually liked Rich Fields as The Price is Right announcer more than George Gray.

Maybe this could be that ALF revival that's being talked about. A puppet host.

So much for him retiring that year. Trebek will continue hosting Jeopardy through 2022. Pat Sajak and Vanna White will also remain hosts of Wheel of Fortune through that year as well.

“Pat, Vanna and Alex are simply the best. Night after night, they seamlessly entertain generations of fans on two of the most beloved television programs on air. We are thrilled that they’ll continue to do so through 2022,” said SPT Chairman Mike Hopkins.
