That's our Chouzetsu Fuuka? I don't know if that's more or less embarrassing than Mio and Kagura sharing the power-up. (oh and what's worse: Kasumi never gets it)
That's one of the big faults of Ninninger, that it perpetuates the systematic bias where the girls can't use the power-up. (Reportedly at least one of them got a chance in a stage show, but that's not as widely available material.) Instead of the girls using the power-up, the power-up uses the girl - not quite in the unsuitable for kids territory, but getting there.

That being said, with Yakumo and Kinji having work past their differences and aiming to surpass Takaharu, their interaction with Shishi-O makes this way better than the attention-whoring Daigo... because they don't turn this surpassing Takaharu business into an obsession with Takaharu. They instead have a more immediate goal at hand, and while the monster wasn't the most clever (even the dome forcefield in Gingaman had a plan for that), they certainly got creative.

I get it, it's a boy's franchise. But considering there are still female Rangers, they can't just ignore that. (then again considering the direction of the franchise...I seriously hope they don't just stick to one girl from now on because "it worked for Kyoryuger"...not everything Kyoryuger did worked)

Transformers: Super-God MasterForce - Ep. 23: Expose the Decepticons' Dark Trap!

Even after the story ends...Rodimus just doesn't know how to not suck.

There are episodes in this franchise, especially with this season, where you sort of wonder...you know, you've had giant robots living among you for decades now, why don't you realize that? (or...you know...continuity reboot) This is one of those episodes, sort of just one that has a neat idea but that ends up being based on all of humanity having collective amnesia despite having dealt with multiple stages of the Autobot/Decepticon war. It isn't a bad plan though: Hydra and Buster actually recruit their boss Mega to pretend to be a fortune teller to make bogus predictions about the Autobots being evil and causing multiple disasters throughout the planet, including meteor storms, plane crashes and dam explosions. The main focus is, of course, Ginrai; I'm not sure if they're still going to attack the other Godmasters after the Getaway failure last time, but with Ginrai being the biggest threat obviously he would be the one they would try to point out the most. I also like that while Mega was used for the fortune telling plot, Giga is also out there helping the Pretenders causing chaos while they also mention that they keep in contact with the Decepticons from space to make everything even more coordinated to try and take down Earth in this sort of way. Obviously in the end they prove the truth about Mega (though why didn't anyone notice the green eyebrows and the echoy voice?) and the plan ends, but at the same time the Pretenders sort of realize they have to speed up the construction of the Godbomber knowing that with the greater power of the Decepticon Godmasters starting to emerge, it may be for their better to keep at what the space Autobots are trying to get them to do.

Jikuu Senshi Spielban: Ep. 23: A Brother and Sister Race Through the Legendary Demon Mountain

Can someone tell me the point of the opening scene? Mood setter or not, what does "random oni assassin" have to do with a Waller plot?

One of my bigger complaints about many toku plots, particularly in Uehara's series, is they're basically just live-action Scooby Doo plots with a bit of super science to try and keep the kids interested in what's going on. This one in particular, especially after the excellent turning point story with Doctor Bio and Helen...and the decent but confusing shock rock episode of last time...is unfortunately a return to the boring status quo of the franchise, involving a mountain that suddenly has multiple murders going on believed to be associated with an oni haunting it since the Edo period. In actuality, it's all Waller, and really they were protecting the mountain so that they could dig up...um, multiple meteorite ore from various planets that...have gravitational pulls that are strong enough...to steal all the water...on Earth? I don't get it: if the meteors are so valuable, why murder all those random tourists until some scientist who happens to actually know that the meteors are there comes along so that they can do the typical evil stuff that Waller tends to do? Oh and he has children who don't want him to go due to the mountain being haunted and of course he does and they follow and they get Spielban and his daughter gets captured to be used as a hostage and...really the episode writes itself. If you've seen one of these MH episodes from this era where this sort of thing happens, you've seen them all. My biggest question remains the meteors: how the heck did all these meteors just fly all beneath the same mountain and all have gravitational pulls to steal all the water on Earth at free will...I mean sure, gravity exists but that's typically just the gravitational forces between two obejects with the stronger one pulling the weaker one towards it (that's typically how meteors crash on the planet: they get attracted to the Earth and pulled into our gravitational field causing them to crash into the planet)...yet somehow Pandora thinks they're all just a load of Upsidasium or something.

Shuriken Sentai Ninninger: Shinobi 23: It's Summer! Ninja Courage Test

Do you think Takeru would have revived faster if Kasumi supported him instead of Akari?

Kasumi is basically the best learner among the Ninninger; and Nagi is the best who wants to learn but sort of feels like he rather have someone teach him what to do instead of anything that is actually educational on his own. This is sort of a burden that Kasumi brings up to Nagi regarding his potential ninja studies and ends up being put to the test via a weird little scenario. During a situation where Kasumi is asked if there is anything she fears, she states that it's ghosts right within earshot of Nagi, who decides to put her through a "test of courage" with Fuuka to try and scare her down. Yet amidst the scaring the girls (including Takaharu as a pepper...if he's always hot, why not a jalapeno?), Ariake no Kata decides to send a real frightening element in the form of a Yukionna who freezes everyone in the team and just ends up placing Nagi in a corner. I do like Nagi's actions here in trying to stand up to the yokai and actually figuring out a means to use the move Kasumi ends up figuring out...except it turns out that Kasumi used a substitution Jutsu to hide herself to see how the Yokai worked and figure out how to deal with it; it's typical Kasumi fashion but I think it worked a lot more for a Nagi lesson even if Nagi is basically manipulated by his cousin due to all this. After a whole weird combo battle (including frying up Yukionna on a barbecue grill and turning Ha-Oh Shurikenjin into a snowman with guns), the whole ordeal ends with Ariake no Kata getting sick of Yokai...and bringing in some specialists from Europe...specialists with fangs...and suitcases...eh, you'd expect a coffin or a cardboard box but they actually got airplane seats!

For a serious answer? Akari having a personal connection was kind of important; Kasumi might've taken a more hands-off approach, but still developing technologies faster, and not be distracted by Onari.

Bell peppers should be quite scary for Takaharu; he wants to remain hot.

Teach a man to fish vs giving a man a fish: it's kind of the approach that Kasumi has going here with Nagi. While students might want to be handed all the answers, it's not as effective as coming to the answers themselves.. That's what makes it a fine growth moment for Nagi, and one of the better parts of all the sibling relationships.

I don't get why Japan has this anti-pepper thing; I love peppers...heck we have anti-broccoli stigma and I like that too. (probably the only thing I can't stand are lima beans but if it's in a good vegetable soup...)

Transformers: Super-God MasterForce - Ep. 24: Super Ginrai Gets Blown Away in the Desert!?

Really I almost thought myself that even the director was one of the Godmasters.

The Godbomber project is an important means for the Autobots to be able to combat the Decepticons in their battle despite the potential power they have on their side. However while the Decepticons don't really have the numbers, they do still have their secrets and their dirty tricks to force down the Autobots and what they attempt to do to hinder their foes. The main tactic is...once again, stop Ginrai; though this time the plan is more about taking out his tractor trailer in the hopes that maybe it will stop or bring a slowdown to the power of Super Ginrai. They do that with a ridiculous "movie plot" that almost feels out of "Hoist Goes Hollywood", especially with the weirdness that a director was brougth in to lead to this weird situation of making Ginrai think he's going to be in a movie, only to find out it's basically a big Decepticon trap. The "destroy the tractor trailer" plan Hydra and Buster try to do doesn't really work that well since it can repair itself with Ginrai's Chokon power once they've fused; but it isn't made any better when Mega and Giga finally decide to fight themselves and reveal their true Godmaster power as the combined warrior Overlord. While it's strange they don't have their own separate Godmaster forms that combine, I do like Overlord and it's power which crushes Super Ginrai with ease; even if he can heal from it, the damage the beast possesses is so much that it's just going to take a long while. Sure there is still the issue of "we need to find where the Godbomber project is and put an end to it completely", but with where we stand now, the Decepticons do have a major advantage at this point.

Jikuu Senshi Spielban: Ep. 24: From the Year 2201 Comes Emperor Guillotine

Hamster-chan from J.A.K.Q. was Waller all along...I KNEW IT!

With Doctor Bio and Hellvira out of reach and the continued failures of the Waller forces, something had to be done to figure out how to deal with the Spielban threat by the enemies if they wanted to figure out how to continue to remain relevant. Strangely, their newest strategy has turned out to be...a hobo from the 23rd century...and no, I'm not making this up. His name is Emperor Guillotine, and as the title states, he's actually from the year 2201...and he's actually a hobo, sort of just one of the random downtrodden of the future upon which the typical problems have pushed many behind regardless of circumstances. Somehow, Waller approaches him in said future telling him that he has the power of the emperor within him and that if he comes to the past and destroys Spielban, he can have anything he wants including food, booze and women! Guillotine accepts...and with the help of a talking hamster (because we had to sneak THAT TROPE in one more time), travels to 1986 to begin his mission. Strangely, though, Guillotine isn't really against Spielban in this episode, more just watching as he deals with typical Waller threats and even helping save Diana at one point when she's captured by Deathzero's forces. Yet somehow the power of Waller has awakened within him; they don't say how but he does have super-strength, the ability to breathe fire and has a pistol that shoots lasers...but the last one it's hard to say if that's Waller tech or just 23rd century tech. Guillotine is just a lot of fun here with the episode on his perspective and it should be interesting to see how things work from here on out with him working for Waller...though sadly he loses the hobo look when he becomes their new emperor for some generic painted biker...seriously, what's wrong with just being a super-hobo?

Shuriken Sentai Ninninger: Shinobi 24: It's Summer! The Chilling Arrival of Western Yokai!

I think for everyone's sanity, we're lucky the amusement park didn't sell any schwanzschtücker.

Ariake no Kata is sort of sick of Yokai, but mostly of the Japanese variety; thus she decides to change things up and bring in some Yokai from Europe to try and see how they'd handle bringing about fear. I find it interesting in that the things we tend to see as monsters in Western pop culture, such as Frankenstein, the Wolf Man and Dracula, are given a similar "yokai" title to the Eastern villains of Ninninger; but then again since we've had Eastern Yokai mingle with our creations in the West, it probably is just a nice little switch-up of things from what you'd expect (that or wait for another series like Magiranger or Zyuranger to be Western monsters more than Eastern ones) However, getting these Yokai to work for the Kibaoni Corp is about as useful as getting the typical ones to do so; really only Frankenstein is raring to go but mostly to go sightseeing with Dracula wanting girls and the Wolf Man waiting for the moon...and of course Kyuemon's stuck on that duty because Ariake doesn't see any other use for them at this point. As for the Ninninger, the main conflict here is more just about daddy Tsugumi trying to find time to bond with his kids, but in a way that doesn't involve ninjas since Fuuka wants to act like a normal girl and not just a ninja in this episode. This leads to a weird sequence where Nagi arranges a trip to the amusement park for the two of them while the others go spying to make sure the trip works out and she's happy while dealing with the Frankenstein rampage. While I do like Frankenstein's complaints of "why are they scared of things other than me now?" in this episode, the running gag with "let's not have Fuuka notice this" gets annoying really quickly and hinders the episode drastically...as does the fact we get a neat Bison King/Dragonmaru combo that gets trashed rather quickly with Takaharu saving the day more than Yakumo or Kinji...then again really it's more about Nagi and Kasumi keeping up the Fuuka deception for Tsugumi's sake I suppose.

Yeah, the main motif behind the Western Yokai is to create a parallel to the hybrid ninjas, and especially considering that some of them have partly Western origins (even Yakumo's magic), it does seem like something's being set up.

The cousins do care about Fuuka, which is nice that they're not trying to keep her out of things, but rather to keep her in things, specifically the happy celebration time.

Eh, sometimes what feels appropriate also does feel somewhat annoying but I suppose that happens.

POWER RANGERS: THE FRANCHISE WATCH (NINJA STORM EDITION)

General Deception Pt. 1: aka: Dangerous Woodland Creeps

Forget the truck; Tori's van is where it's at!

A few days...you know how many pairs of underwear we can burn through in a few days?

This world is going to be so much easier once streaming is a thing...and portable wi-fi.

Their idea of "roughing it" is dealing with the lack of cable at Ninja Ops.

I got the cameras set up at your camp site; you are so going to be on TV!

What could happen with ninjas in the wild? Pirates. That's what.

No aliens? I guess Lothor considered the Isaac thing a complete disaster like I did.

Lothor, leaving? Everything that pisses him off is on Earth; where else can he get such fun things to annoy?

I hope the guinea pig's right...that or Lothor's just dealing with Marah and Kapri antics for all this time.

New features? You have two Ultrazords at the standby; why do you need more stuff!?

Let me guess: they haven't attacked cause they were waiting for the "official super-long villain table" in the mail.

Come on; those two have done more work than Shimazu, Motodrone and Vexacus combined! They deserve a seat!

Yeah we know where we don't belong. We'll form our own evil club; and none of you are invited! (nyah!)

Come on Marah, let's do...girl things...

So those two don't get a seat and Chuubo does? Low standards.

I get Zurgane's probably the most senior but why is he leading this meeting?

Don't question me, Vexacus; so far you've gone out once and you were a free agent then!

Evil space ninja protocol? Can someone get me the handbook on how that works?

You're a bounty hunter so you really don't know about space ninjas!

Respect is something about having the right colored background to show how much you mean it...and seriously, cold blue?

If I were Lothor...wait does Vexacus want the responsibility of being Lothor?

And Shimazu knows nothing considering he's still barely been around.

This wouldn't be a bad idea for a plot...IF WE DIDN'T HAVE SIX EPISODES LEFT!

I'll dispose of those Rangers even if it means opening my own landfill!

OK, new plan: Chuubo, you're leader now.

Shimazu, don't try to side with Vexacus to remain relevant.

Kapri: Are you pondering what I'm pondering, Marah?

Marah: I think so, Kapri, but if Gilligan couldn't leave the island, why did every guest star?

And now the profound mysteries of life...by Dustin.

What does Ranger powers have to do with "why is the sky blue"?

Zurgane: Really, why don't we have a VW Bus? Some villain groups have a Winnebago, I want a bus!

Oh come on, Power Rangers again? Aren't you sick of that show?

I guess those two are loyal to Zurgane. I would too considering I never trusted Vexacus and Shimazu...is irrelevant.

What were they plotting about? Um...humanoid dinosaur minions? (Yeah that's it, no one would believe that)

Delivery from Kelzak Package Service!

Just write a giant X, Zurgane, no one will notice.

And your new secret weapon is...a starfish medal.

YOU HAD THE INTERNET IN THE LAIRSHIP ALL ALONG!? AND HOW COULD YOU HAVE A KEY PLOT POINT SOLD TO YOU OFF EBAY...OR AMAZON...

What the Power Rangers never expect...good actors? (bu-dum-dum, ching!)

Yeah this is sort of decaying faster than the planet due to climate change, just let it play out.

Random girl yelling in a road...actual help or the doofus nieces?

So you can't lose all your ninja friends, what's the worse that could happen this time?

You went rapelling and didn't bring a rope? Isn't that the first key to safety?

So what was the rope for? Eh, probably just for tug-of-war.

If we knew there was a cliff nearby, maybe we could have had a more interesting vacation set up.

Oh so they did have a rope. So then they...didn't have another rope?

Blake's the lightest? What about Tori?

When in doubt, Rangers...wait do they even care about secret identities anymore?

Safety first; we don't want to save Blake too do we?

OK, my name isn't Akama but I'll help you today.

Wait so the starfish medal is just a remote/PDA adaptor? Is this just going to turn into that dumb Adam Sandler movie "Click"?

Hey, Kelzak Fury. I'm shocked Zurgane still had those.

OK, I don't like the drone sound of the girl on the cliffside.

WHAT TOOK THEM SO LONG TO REMEMBER THEY STILL HAD KELZAK FURIES!?

OK, it's not much of a vacation but at least we can get something done.

Advice: cut the rope for the Kelzak!

I'm surprised neither franchise has done a cliffside battle like this.

Special slow-mo for Dustin cam!

Again: with how powerful the Kelzak Furies are, why did it take them so long to remember they still had them with them putting the Rangers literally on the ropes?

And I thought Dustin had a fear of falling...

AAAHTHUNDERSTORMRANGERFORM!

And a few leaps and that Kelzak's no real problem anymore.

You know if Blake transformed, maybe you four should as well.

Now this is how you use Ranger powers in accordance.

They all ducked...or just placed where they needed to for the return.

Oh and Gold Mode is still a thing too.

OK, let's just get to Zurgane already and deal with it.

I love it when generals play rough, don't you Zurgane?

OH COME ON HE HIT THE CLIFF; YOU NUKED KELZAKS LAST EPISODE AND YET DO NOTHING WITH THE STRONGER VARIENT?

Zurgane's not doing so bad; the Rangers just have too many toys now.

And I thought Lothor wouldn't show up today.

What sort of sitcom does Lothor watch? Aside his failed pilot?

The performance reports for those two...eh, Vexacus hasn't done much but I say Shimazu's on the chopping block.

Maybe Lothor should have been around when they were using that giant table.

Well guess the camping trip is still on. Blue Bay Harbor better have a plan B if they split their resources on the villain side.

Tori's wrong: it's less camping and more...regular life in the woods with more bugs.

What would Tori do back home; play chess with Cam and Kanoi?

On the road again...just can't wait to drop them on the road again!

Heh...roughing it...at least the Zordon five had a cabin and limited resources.

Resort? Well Hunter still has the flyswatter for mosquitos.

And they're able to pick up the motocross channel from here!?

Really, pizza? Here's an idea: GET SOME FIREWOOD AND MAKE YOUR OWN!

No signal...next time: Jellystone.

At least I rather have convenience where it feels convenient; have fun with your light "roughing it".

Four men stuck in the middle of nowhere without a girl around. What to talk about...fishing?

And who the heck put that divot right in the middle of the road?

OK, four big strong men and one van: what's the worst that could happen?

How deep is the mud in this area anyway?

So the van's busted as is the generator. I hope wolves eat them all.

Well now you guys can literally rough it; you've got the mud to prove it.

Again: who the heck brings a generator to the middle of nowhere?

And where did they get the bath water? There better not have been parasites!

At least she knows how to rought it.

They brought an actual grill; with propane tanks? So why order for pizza!?

Oh great, more ninjas in the big woods.

Garbage; no that's just wet shark. (unless you mean Shimazu)

Eh, I can see Vexacus as outdoorsey but Shimazu needs his creature comforts.

Wait watch their demise? Vexacus thinks they can't camp either.

As I've said before: WHAT DAY OFF FOR YOU FIVE!?

Yeah, and now we finally have other Rangers fighting Vexacus...and without the Battlizer, he's just tough.

May as well try this even if it isn't going to...never mind.

Oh great, Vexacus has brought lotsa spaghetti!

I'm not eating al dente again after this disaster.

All that money for the table and that starfish chip and what do I get? Paranoia!

Zurgane, if you want to get Lothor to fire you faster, then do more of that. Otherwise...

And now Lothor wants real results. Really blasting him in the face is one thing he can't stand.

OK, I'll kill the Rangers, whatever you say; just don't tell Vexacus and the others I did that!

And now he has to go back to the laundry. Poor Lothor.

Are they really going to have the Thunders fight Shimazu?

Hey didn't Kapri do this Zordon maneuver before?

Stop trying to pretend you're funny, Shimazu. You're not.

And when in doubt, giant robot.

You're my only friend, starfish medal!

I was sort of hoping that was Zurgane but I'll take Cam.

Oh and Cam warns them of Zurgane. Well it's still better than nothing.

Whose worse than us? Um...considering who we've seen, probably Deviot and Viktor Adler for starters.

Let's try that cannon...never mind, that failed.

What is it? Oh just another Zurgane Zord.

Zurgane's just a glutton for punishment; let him have this.

At least we have a zillion Zord formations to deal with the jerk now.

And this one is...doesn't matter, Zurgane stole it.

They never even used that form of Star Blazer so...um...

And this one is...oh that manta one.

He's really just a glutton for punishment at tis point.

Bees, my god.

So how are they going to finish that huge thing Zurgane's building to?

Never mind, more electric shocks.

So far all he's done is...copy finishers. How is that going to lead to victory?

Thoughts: It took a while but the whole build up of Lothor having way too many generals at this point finally is boiling over in a story where Zurgane decides he's had enough and wants to prove himself as the superior once and for all; which as the first major general is probably something that he has a right to do in the face of all the newbies, idiots and his leader. While some of his moves are...questionable (really where the heck did he get the medal for the Raging Bow; he claims it's the internet but considering the backstory in the Sentai, why would something that powerful just be found on a web shop!?), I do like that he's doing it and is just pushing closer to conclusion with the usage first of the trickery with the Kelzak Furies, and then with the new Zurganezord after nearly screwing everything up with Lothor himself. The only reason Zurgane feels like he's first on the chopping block is both due to his own long list of failures being with them from the beginning and just...blasting his boss in the face; sure there's also Vexacus and possibly Shimazu, but blowing up the guy you were supposed to be working for isn't going to be rewarded. In other story elements, the camping plot is rather dumb, especially when, again, you have the idiots "roughing it" while bringing too many modern conveniences...and yet even when the generator's gone, they still had a propane grill for burgers WHICH THEY WERE GOING TO IGNORE JUST TO ORDER PIZZA NOT REALIZING THERE'S NO SIGNAL IN THE WOODS!? (I know there was a joke long ago of a pay phone in the middle of nowhere in the past and I doubt they'd do that in the age of cells, but that makes way more sense in areas where you're supposed to be roughing it if you want to go that far)

General Deception Pt. 2: aka: Never Want to Run Around and Desert You

Come on; how come he gets to have nice things!? Why can't we have nice things!?

Relax? Zurgane's got the Zord out and you two are just standing around a quarry; that's not something to relax about.

WHAT!? I THOUGHT SHURIKEN DIDN'T EXISIT THIS SEASON WITH ALL THE NINJA BEAMS!

Cam, you just look naked now. Please put that star back on your body.

Hey never turn your back on the armpit lasers of the Thunder Rangers.

Well Hunter's copping an attitude all of a sudden.

You're copying that mode too? THEY JUST GOT IT TWO EPISODES AGO!

You're about to get your butt kicked by a massive Megazord; that's not something to laugh about.

YES, I GOT WHAT I NEEDED BEFORE CD-R TECHNOLOGY BECOMES IRRELEVANT!

So Zurgane's ultimate plan was...a CD-R device...in a Zord. Um...billions wasted? Terrible usage of Lothor's funds?

No more Zurgane? So what was that small thing that lept out of the Zord blowing up?

Oh come on, you know Zurgane: if you blow up one Zord, he'll have another in...five minutes?

Too easy? What, so the Zord you just fought was a giant cardboard cutout that says "blow me up"?

OK, go back to camping...and no, Tori, you're stuck with them. Get the van out yourself!

Wait, so she's just hitching a ride with Cam? Well that's fine but what about the van?

A clone program of all the powers? I didn't see them use all their colorful billiard balls so I say he's lying.

So next question: can you rip the Kelly Clarkson CD too? WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU HAVE TO ATTACK HER CONCERT FIRST!?

What to do with it? These days...coffee stands to not mess up tables.

The Rangers are already a distant footnote in the Earth's history. According to some scientists, if all time is a ruler, we're basically all in that tiny, tiny smudge between the last line and the end.

You always were the best; cause all you had prior to recently was Chuubo.

And Vexacus...why did we hire you again?

Vexacus, stop thinking this is 4th dimensional chess and just figure out a way to fight Power Rangers more realistically...well as realistically as this franchise can get.

Will Zurgane fail? Is the sky blue...OK, bad question cause Dustin asked that...

WHAT NEW WEAPON!? THAT ZORD THE RANGERS BLEW UP!?!?

He keeps thinking being Lothor's general is a good thing. Didn't you like being a bounty hunter chasing after CGI balls of light?

Luckily, Lothor still has family on his side...or whatever Marah and Kapri are.

Hey, we need to make this floor clean enough to eat off of...MARAH, LICK THE FLOOR AND I'LL CHECK FOR GERMS!

The traitor doesn't like spies? How long as Vexacus been at this game?

Eh, ears aren't as gross as tongues...but I swear they're licking it behind Vexacus' back.

This is my crowning achievement...and really I should get a crown for this Zord to show that off.

You want this thing to come to life? Really just get a Zord from Dino-Earth; that's way faster (and doesn't involve nutty Shayla)

Know what's not logical? Cam constantly checking the same trees over and over!

And the guinea pig isn't helping with answering that question.

Know what's not right? Those four idiots still camping in the midst of a crisis and no generator.

Idea: next time, we just find a pool, hang out and pick up chicks.

And Blake has a hankering for vinegar-preserved vegetables.

Shane, we know you're a Burger King fan, don't push it.

The camp...is trashed...AND WE DIDN'T DO IT!?

And who left the burgers on the grill during the fight with Zurgane?

OK, I think Jason was here...no not Lee Scott, the hockey mask one.

And this is why Tori shouldn't have left. Cam, little help?

I find it hilarious that they have technology that can teleport them and super-speed ninja powers...yet they think they're turning into the next Survivor.

OK, so it's Survivor...whose going to eat a rat first?

OK, life has given us lemons but not the literal ones. But we still have burned burgers.

Yeah, let's ignore the dead animal byproduct on the grill and start foraging...smooth move, guys.

And whoever doesn't come back without food shall be "cannibalistic meal #1!"

Wait if you read the replicator, wouldn't that have been destroyed with his Zord?

Well there goes the neighborhood...property values are definitely going to plummet with that thing; and I thought high pollutant factories were a problem.

OK guys, stop pretending your all Richard Hatch and deal with Zurgane...and no we won't pick you up after that!

Oh and we still had the last Zord combo in standby to save on stock footage.

Yeah it had to be Zurgane; no one else would keep using these lame excuses for Zords.

OUR FIST IS BIGGER THAN HIS; HOW COME HE MATCHED US!?

Considering it's a new formation, I guess they shouldn't be surprised it's stronger.

NO, A ROCKET FIST: HOW COULD HE HAVE SUCH A HORRIFIC FINISHER!?

And now for some serious starfish action!

Well that's what happens when you keep facing the same technology over and over; eventually they'll have it and it becomes an ugly arms race.

And that sphere...is just floating...um...is it just for show?

So...our move...anyone got a pool cue?

And Vexacus and Shimazu are still arguing. JUST GET MARRIED YOU TWO!

Considering the face and the lips, I wouldn't be surprised if Shimazu WAS a woman.

It isn't your powers; it's Zurgane's own Sphere; that's technology.

And his power is...wait is that a sword or an anchor?

Never had that shield before; eh Cam preps for everything.

And our remedy for "multiple sword strikes simultaneously"?

So...next idea? Seriously if you don't do anything, maybe Vexacus will....maybe.

Time to use my finisher: ANCHOR SHOT!

Let's show that again...only this time, Cam has that shamisen/guitar thing.

Sometimes having too many toys isn't such a bad thing.

Never send...really what we need is an alien elephant.

Well that went well. Seriously, Zurgane didn't even get info on the Mammothzord, why/how would he?

If all else fails, times for the nuke tornado!

And of course lightning. The answer to any problem.

So the guinea pig is willing to teleport them out of this and not from "I'm a Power Ranger, Get Me Out of Here?"

Yeah we're gone. Whatever; this is getting annoying anyway.

Oh and Zurgane's in a city now; no reason, no explanation, he just is.

This has to be the most powerful thing Amazon has ever sold. My guess is the CEO hid it away and is using it for his world domination powers after this episode.

So now he considers it a sword. A sword with barbs on each end.

I said it, you've "given up"...OH COME ON, CAN'T I GET A RICKROLL TOO!?

THIS ISN'T YOUR POWERS! I'M STILL SO CONFUSED AT WHAT ZURGANE HAS OTHER THAN A TRINKET HE BOUGHT ONLINE!

So we're ninjas. And we have other resources...um, for a giant fight, really it's just the Zord; the whole "mecha infiltration" thing isn't even done that often in our franchise.

So now we're going to use the small stuff. Don't sweat it but...how?

I highly doubt Zurgane's going to just abandon some toy he wants to play with.

Yeesh, and speaking of bikes: WHAT WAS THE POINT OF GIVING THE WIND RANGERS BIKES IF YOU DON'T HAVE THEM WHEN NEEDED!?

I find it funnier that the hang gliders are more effective than Zords.

Oh I've had enough; I'm not losing to plastic and metal rods!

Lothor: YOU'VE LEARNED NOTHING!!!

OK this is a smart strategy: despite the superior tech, Zurgane on the ground is still Zurgane.

Zurgane's still a tough SOB but he's still Zurgane.

The film grain feels like they keep trying to adjust it for this final showdown between footage.

Um...any moment now Cam.

Amazingly they haven't used the other cannon formations in a while.

And...that's probably why.

Oh and my hands have bullets in them. Yep, I'm just that lethal a weapon.

OK so we got the Zords back. Still not enough to deal with Zurgane.

Eh not sure why Lothor was so worried considering Zurgane held his own.

I'M BACK IN THE SADDLE AGAIN! I'M BACK!!!!!

And here's Vexacus and Shimazu again. Who brought popcorn this time?

This is what we call the "vulture" strategy: watch one get killed and we eat the carcass.

This is how it was last time; so what's the new strategy Cam? Anything?

CHAARGE! (famous last words)

MEGAZORD, FULL PO...eh, that meant nothing cause they already were full power.

Eh, if Lothor was to yell "YOU'VE LEARNED NOTHING!!!", really it should be for the Rangers.

MAGICAL SENTIENT GUITAR!

Cam, the strategy is the same as last time! Again: SO WHAT'S YOUR ENDGAME!!!!

OK, we're leaving. Oh and pigeons in the background...just go to Silver HIlls or something.

Hoo boy...he wanted it...HE WANTED IT...

(Rick Astley starts blasting instead of the Ninja Storm theme)

NEVER GONNA GIVE NEVER GONNA GIVE NEVER GONNA GIVE (GIVE YOU UP!!!!!!!) NEVER GONNA GIVE NEVER GONNA GIVE NEVER GONNA GIVE (GIVE YOU UP!!!!!!!)

You tempt fate Zurgane, you get Rickroll'd. Pure and simple.

And finally, Tori's van gets out of the mud.

So what state do you expect those four to be in? I say naked, flabby and with beards.

Lame, you? Cam, it's hip to be square.

So that's what they're doing. What, without the comfy bed?

Zurgane: I read...something...from the Org...database...is that...the power...of Astley?

A day marked for Zurgane? I'd say Thursday but he sort of squandered that.

I'VE GONE HYSTERICAL! I DON'T WANT TO BE SOME RANDOM LAME GENERAL IN A POWER RANGERS SERIES!

Well the Rangers and Zurgane lives...now what Vexacus?

Oh hey....Zurgane.

Zurgane, respected? Well he is the longest tenured of Lothor's men.

Yeah...you got Rickroll'd, Zurgane. That's the lamest way to go down. Buh-bye.

Eh, it's just a flesh wound...does Zurgane even have flesh?

And now a random fan. But Vexacus as a general...um, we have four episodes left so what the heck will his reign be?

Cheap CGI...eh, I still like the real Thurgane being a tiny alien.

Thoughts: Another episode to the end and another set of stock footage burned, I really just don't even know why they're doing it other than to just get to the end. For the most part it was mostly Zurgane/Thurgane's final battle anyway, with the only real American footage being the occasional Vexacus/Shimazu shot and the whole ridiculous plot of the boys still going out camping with no real resolution to how Tori got her bus out of the mud. And again, this series really has no idea what it wants to do with it's characters since Vexacus hates Lothor and was just thrown into the generalship and now he sees it as something he has to have to do? WITH FOUR EPISODES LEFT AND TWO OF THOSE BEING THE SERIES FINALE!?!? This doesn't really feel as compelling as the whole general drama we got during Lost Galaxy, which it feels like it wants to be but can't because of it's lack of planning in this stage. Eh...at least I had fun in killing off Zurgane with Rick Astley but that joke wrote itself.

A Gem of a Day: aka: Love on the Rocks

So another episode down, what do we do...MORE MOTOCROSS!

Wait Hunter's actually using his bike for transportation?

Memories flow in and out of my mind...and the little people get left behind...so whatever!!!

Oh yeah, mom and dad left me some random crystal things...eh I was going to use them in a bath.

Hey nifty shades Cam. Really, this shows why we needed to separate technician from Ranger.

Disturbance? Zurgane's dead so it isn't like we need to worry about him anymore.

Oh it's a bike. So...was Hunter an alien all along?

AH, EVIL ALIENS (sees Cam in shades) AAH, BUG-EYED MONSTER!!!!

You run a bike shop, not a coffee shop; what caffiene?

Yeah, there's probably a nuke plant around here; get away before you grow a third limb.

Hey it's a sword...SOUVENIER FOR THE HUNTER-CAVE!

Whose to say Zurgane's dead? For all we know, he just left it there cause he got a better one.

I say it's time to give Vexacus a time-out.

Don't butter him up, we know you hate him.

Yeah you're right. Villains do get too forgiving when they say "one more chance" and do nothing. Fine, you made a point, it'll stand.

If I don't say kill someone, don't kill them...even Chuubo.

And now he cares about those two? After ignoring them and locking them up prior?

CHUUBO IF YOU DON'T FIND MARAH AND KAPRI, I'LL USE THE SAME EXPLANATION I USED FOR ZURGANE'S DEATH FOR YOURS!

Oh great, he's micro-managing. This is why villains don't last long under you, Lothor.

Here's my plan, it's a bird-based...monster...with a height of "tall" and a weight of "heavy".

Yeah I still need something; birdseed.

If you don't tell me when the attack is, I won't be able to clear my TV schedule!

Dang, Lothor read my mind...though why doesn't he have a DVR yet?

And now Perri's jealous? Well he's probably still upset over the whole Isaac thing.

See I told you Vexacus smells.

Um Lothor, maybe you shouldn't have had so many generals if you can't trust a few?

AND DON'T TRY TO START TRYING TO BE FUNNY NOW, SHIMAZU!

Dang, Ranger tech picking up that fight is...yeesh, Cam hacked into Zordon's old network, didn't he?

So is Zurgane memorable enough for the Rangers to memorialize...nah.

Yeah, the Jaryuu method of "we all kill each other until the strongest remains" isn't a bad one.

Yep, the generals are killing each other...Lothor's up to something. (um...what?)

Yep, it's time for this ninja team....TO ACT LIKE NINJAS!

So save all our classmates. More ninjas are good but can they really deal with aliens?

Oh, so that's why they couldn't just sneak into the Lairship all this time: generic force-field no jutsu.

And now Hunter has an idea. I get he's insane but do we really want to trust this?

So this is where my magic beans were hidden. Good thing they didn't take root.

Who's reading who at this point?

He's just a condor monster, Vexacus. Nothing that special.

I'm here for magic beans too; that cow salesman is just a fraud and I need to make sure.

Let's see if generic descriptions work in making a robot minion.

For a condor, all he's saying is "caw" a lot...sure it's not a crow?

Seriously I thought we dealt with the scavenger birds last time.

Sushi; shouldn't shark be considered illegal to hunt due to it's environmental importance?

Big Bird is irradiated? Eh I'd expect Oscar with how he's green.

And the truck again. Why do we still use the mobile base?

DID A LASER REALLY JUST FLY OUT OF CONDORTRON'S CROTCH!?

Of course he's no match for Condortron; with equipment like his, he's not to be messed with.

Hey why the heck doesn't Cam get a bike too?

Yeesh I guess Motodrone didn't get the message about Kelzak Furies.

Motocross everywhere. No wonder Perri showed up.

FLIPPING? YOU HOPE TO BEAT SOME MOTOCROSS ROBOT/CYBORG BY FLIPPING!?!?

Oh yeah...lasers.

Guess it's time for Condortron to...carrion?

Yeah, at least Hunter remembers he still has that American bike.

TIME TO GET REVENGE FOR YOUR CROTCH LASER!

Hunter: Well...this is familiar. (crashes)

He'll be fine, Blake. Remember the last time his super-bike blew up?

Eh, just hit my solar plexus, no worry.

Seriously if you want back-up, Vexacus, get your own mooks. I heard Pirhanatrons are unemployed...

I'm watching you...always wat...HEY IS THAT A BIKE!?

And what was the point of Condortron if you're doing this alone?

Last words...um...whose side are you on anyway, Vexacus?

IT'S HIS SPAGHETTI...AND IT'S STILL AL-DENTE!

Vexacus, no puppets for you. Or do you want to fight Five-Kun Dolls?

What he wants is red sauce!

OK here you can have him. I can't stand nerds anyway.

Hey, he's got a sword! What are you saying, we've all got swords!!!

At least they remember the shadow battle...doesn't work but they remember.

Well if you're using spaghetti I'll use my captivity powers.

Who you calling a docile doofus, your own brother?

I never was a fan of land-sharks; they're way more dangerous than lake sharks.

Yeah just came back to give my tidings and farewells. I'm really a gentlemanly villain.

Oh great he mentioned the gem. HUNTER, ARE YOU WAITING FOR THAT MAGIC WORLD WITCH!?

Yeah, I'm going to sell this to some apocathery and tell him it's just some magic but it's just a bag of rocks.

We really keep these plot relevant things around easily, don't we?

Yeah those gems really are contentious...what, does Hunter want to raise mommy and daddy like zombies?

Yep, it was the fragments; I still say they're plutonium.

I wanted to use them like a crystal ball but do you know how ridiculous that is?

You can never go back...unless you had a time manipulating scroll...or Time Force timeship...or a wormhole...or...really, this franchise uses time travel all the time, Hunter could have if he wanted to.

You miss your parents...but what about your NON ADOPTED REAL PARENTS!?

Yeah I did learn that lesson with that girl who ran to Nepal...really that's our plan: send everyone to Nepal and Lothor will ignore them.

Wait now Vexacus is telling Lothor about the gems? Wouldn't Lothor really need to know about them considering last time?

Yeah, if you don't you're dead too like Zurgane.

I really need to find those two; they better not be in the clothes closet again.

If evil is FINALLY emerging within them, I at least need to see how so I can gloat.

I'm not sure Perri should be talking to Vexacus after last time.

Following orders? In this squad of traitors and brigands?

He's really become obsessed with Lothor. What with Zurgane gone he's the new favorite?

Oh so he had to mention Zurgane. Sore spot for sure.

And...Cam's going? What about Hunter, he's the one who came up with this nutty plan.

I'm so sick of it; I'm the most careful Ranger ever and you all keep saying "be careful!"

I don't know if it's classy or ridiculous that Cam looks like an astronaut ready to go into space.

So that's why Cam didn't get a bike: he was stealing Mariner Bay tech for his own Moon Rover!

ZURGANE...Zurgane's ghost...lizard?

Fine I'll use the shark.

Really I should have killed my nephew when he was born but...wait which would have been easier, killing Cam or killing my nieces?

(singing) We're Cam...we're Cam in space...

Oh dang I forgot this ship had lasers on it!

My new problem: why do I have drills on the end and not lasers of my own?

What could make it better? Nachos, preferably with cheese product.

Oh sure let's send the condor into space; why not anymore.

Oh send the big bird back to Earth. Well you have Snuffy and it's Big Bird so...natural combo?

I am not sure Cyber-Cam can handle space battles; no lightsabers.

SUPER-DESTINY...ER, DENSITY DRILLS!

Let's fire lasers; lasers tend to beat monsters this season.

So it's a diamond-encrusted drill. Smart thinking.

Yeah yeah, Cam be careful. He mentioned he's sick of it earlier.

So this is what my uncle's been up to all season. Why did he take those two and not me?

And right in the chamber with all the ninjas. I sort of hope Lothor's been following the Geneva convention.

Yeah but if you teleport the others in, what about Condortron?

Never mind, let's get Cam out instead of sending the other Rangers in.

Hey it's the family reunion no one asked for!

Come on, no drinks, no sweets, no TV set up; WORST REUNION EVER!

Hey Uncle Kiya: HERE'S WHAT I'VE LEARNED WHILE YOU WERE GONE!

It's impressive but all Lothor's doing is laughing at you.

And...he still owned him.

It's dangerous to see how close you are and not be able to do anything.

HAH, SUPER REMOTE POWER!

Just dropped in for a visit; next time I'm bringing dip!

Oh and this is still happening on Earth.

Cam...WHAT TOOK YOU SO LONG!?

Well we may as well, not going to go too overboard.

Your a bird, you should be able to fly out of...never mind.

Doo-bee-doo, here's Motodrone wandering in a hallway...no one nearby...minding his own business...doo-bee-doo...

Vexacus: WHY ARE YOU STILL EVEN HERE!?

Let me read this: Vexacus sucks, fire him. Yeah...I'll take this.

Why does Vexacus want that ship? It isn't that good a ship.

Yeah I was hoping to turn this in for a garbage scowel, no one will notice one of those in raids.

So...your name is Perri isn't it...

Back off? Why the heck would Vexacus want to spare him?

Perri's out of shape; must be too many bike rides.

Backed into a dark corner...oh I'm sure Perri will be fine...he'll walk this off...

HEY MOTODRONE, WANT TO SEE A TRICK!? (melts into goo) Damn it, I hate when I do that.

Ick, whose going to clean up that molten mess?

Um, Perri...he's...need to think of a good pun...he visited a smelter and they just...no...OK, I'll use the meltdown one.

Kapri, don't evil laugh. Please don't evil laugh.

Cam, use your radiation device to find any more of Hunter's little treasures.

Yeah those things could have been used on the Dark Crystal but we used them for...almost a good thing.

What would Hunter have done with them? Seriously, zombie adopted parents would be nuts.

Condortron? You're not giving Uncle Kiya enough credit.

I'll figure it out. I am a genius after all.

They'll come home. In what shape...we'll see.

Thoughts: This was a surprisingly competent episode considering the circumstances, with it more about Hunter's conflicted nature about what happened to his parents and wanting to save them but with the whole idea that maybe he should have been more open to his teammates and the logical elements of what they're up against...and you know, no means to save those parents without a time scroll like the one Cam used to become the Samurai Ranger. (or some idea of becoming zombies) While it's a bit silly Cam suddenly has a flying space vehicle of all things, I did like his attempt to use the crystals to break into the Lairship and almost save the other ninjas without Lothor intervening. The Condortron fight is a bit generic (though the planning of it was funny with Vexacus' generic labels), while Motodrone...eh, he had no more footage and no more purpose to the plot; and while the most noble way to go down, he didn't have much purpose in the end so...OK, he had no purpose other than to use Monmarva footage.

What does Ranger powers have to do with "why is the sky blue"?
Anyone have powers related to the electromagnetic spectrum? The answer has to do with the solar thermal radiation spectrum coupled with Raleigh scattering.

In shades of color, or in mass? Hmm, for motocross, do you want to weigh down the bike for controlling air time? In surfing, do you want inertia against the current?

What sort of sitcom does Lothor watch? Aside his failed pilot?
Well, those ones centered around a family are too depressing for him. The one with the radio psychiatrist is too deep. Maybe the one with all that wanton collateral damage, and the people who get away with it - you know, Seinfeld.

There's a light in the distance...

Maybe it has something to do with Gokaiger I suppose.

Better than certain other uses for crystals.
But Snizzard needs to make a living too!

And tell him not to sleep with his parents either! Is that such a hard rule for time travelers to follow?
But wouldn't Hunter want to find out he's basically the Ranger version of Phillip J. Fry?

-----

Down and Dirty: aka: Biking Up the Wrong Tree

The previously segment makes Vexacus have this long "TAKE OVER THE SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIP" bit...I'm not sure why but it's unintentionally funny. (but why do we need a reminder that Motodrone's dead? NO ONE CARES ABOUT MOTODRONE!)

VEXACUS...oh dang why am I calling him? I wanted Zurgane to take out the trash but he's gone; then Motodrone...maybe I should ask Shimazu, he's available.

He needs permission to kill generals? Again: WHY WOULD LOTHOR CARE ABOUT MOTODRONE!?

Yeah that Perri, what a...mutant...cyborg...robot...AGH, I KILLED HIM CAUSE I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT HE WAS!

You're still trusting him!? THE GUY WHO TRIED TO HUNT YOU DOWN BEFORE YOU CAME BACK TO EARTH!?

If you kill another of my generals, then you're making clones of all of them! With my brain!

Um...Vexacus...in earshot...does anyone care about that?

But enough of Vexacus's impersonation of Norman Bates: TIME FOR MORE MOTOCROSS!!!

That big show better not be in Blue Bay Harbor. If we do the nationals, they better be on the road!

You're not an idiot...um, where's Dustin? (nice segway, Kelly)

Whoever wins, the other has to treat for drinks; and I am not a fan of Arnold Palmers!

Yeah who cares about my big bro and Dustin: I NEED TO CRUSH NO-NAMED RACERS WHO DON'T MATTER ON THIS SHOW!

Yep regardless of dimension, Hunter's still a bit nuts.

On your marks...get set...wait, we need to get the fence posts down...OK, go.

And more Motocross, I don't even care anymore.

Really, right into your bro? Man I hope he gets disqualified for that hit.

Good...clean...REALLY THEY NEED TO BE PENALIZED!

Well enough of that plotline; WHO WANTS TO SEE BIKE TRICKS!

Hoo boy, and here's the Hunter Bradley temper we all know and...love...like...tolerate...

Wait, second doesn't make nationals!? I THOUGHT USUALLY SECOND PLACE MAKES IT IN THESE THINGS!?!?!

Suddenly I just imagine Blake as the Buster to Hunter's Hydra.

"Is everything alright?" Talk to the plastic furniture Hunter just kicked.

Well time for Vexacus to kill again. And it's Shimazu's turn! (and HE'S NOT A CLOWN...at least not in this interpretation)

He's not even hiding it anymore. Vexacus' bloodlust is just so palpatable to everyone.

And Shimazu's just using a sheet to hide himself. Not the cleanest strategy but ninjas are ninjas.

Shimazu: I WANT TO BE A STATUE IN THE MUSEUM; IT WAS SAFER THERE!

I DON'T WANNA DIE...oh, it's you two.

Duties, schmuties, this is sort of what happens when a shark smells blood.

Them, help!? After what we've seen, they'd probably force him into a funny costume and act stupid for half an episode.

And Shimazu has about as much trust in Marah and Kapri as most.

OK, he's a statue again. Now can we send him back to Blue Bay Harbor?

Are you as dumb as you act? Um...with Marah around...probably dumber.

Um, it's not really been that much faking; I say this is the act.

Oh great, now they want to take out Lothor? Yeesh, betrayal really runs in this family...this side, not Kanoi and Cam's.

So help...or be fish food...decisions, decisions...

Either survive...or just shiver for a bit until Vexacus kills you...your choice.

When they mentioned bike tricks, I didn't expect they'd be SHOWING THEM TO US!

Who would give Hunter a ride? I still don't even know if Hunter likes anyone.

Wait...that yellow outfit...DUSTIN, WHERE WERE YOU!?!??

And a classic Dustin pratfall...again, why is he doing bike tricks instead of, you know, racing?

Yeah I'm fine, probably hurt some muscle I can't pronounced but at least I live.

Yeah this is confusing: Dustin's been racing all season so why switch to the demo trick stuff?

OK, so missing freestyle tricks...is this why you pulled this or are you just giving up on racing?

Kelly, let him. If he wants to be Evel Kenevil, then let him break a few bones.

And this is the first time I think Kelly doesn't have a good idea. Again: it's Dustin's life, let him make his own decisions instead of forcing him back to racing, especially since the race that matters is done.

OK...they made their own Zords...why does Marah's look like Beevil?

Shimazu's does look a bit like a wolf; at least they remembered the whole Wolfblade phase.

Can he handle it? Eh, Shimazu is rather luddite, so I doubt it.

Either you do this or we clone one of the former generals...and again, that's messy.

Shimazu: BUT I DON'T LIKE ZORDS!!!

So one Bradley's talking with Tori, the other Bradley's talking with Shane, and Dustin...

Really it's like they're both saying the same thing.

Guys, you're on dirt. All racing is dirty racing on dirt.

Tori has a sister? Probably won't meet her but it seems all we get of Tori's family is her evil 60s twin.

So no negotiation and no compromise. Sounds like government to me.

Ninja Ops battle to the death; force them to use weapons the size of Sensei!

Oh and Dustin's playing with bloody rags...why is he playing with bloody rags?

Guys, stop talking about motocross cause it's time to be Rangers.

Oh it's just Kapri in a Zord. Probably doesn't mean a thing.

Super CGI guinea pig flip!

I think Kapri's more a danger to herself than to the Rangers sometimes.

Sensei, Ranger duties have nothing to do with motocross.

Guys we know what your zords are, don't just announce them to us.

Least favorite...yeah we needed a Pink this season.

What love? We never saw the Wendinu episode adapted so it makes no sense here.

Oh the dog gun, at least that should...oh wait, that's what dodging's for.

WHAT!? THEY'RE BLAMING EACH OTHER FOR KAPRI'S STRATEGY WORKING!?

Why does this feel like an early season episode with the moralizing?

Only child; guess you never met the nieces prior.

It was working until you killed the Thunder brother's Zord.

Well at least Lighting mode is kicking some Kapri backside.

Oh and this is where the other two show up.

Do we remember Shimazu? Not really.

HYPER MARAH FOREHEAD ATTACK!

FIRE...AND MAYBE DO SUPER SKY DIVING!

Um...Cam, what about joining them like you said prior?

Guess someone decided to get the dolts back to fighting speed.

Even the odds? If it means replacing Tori's arm, that's not fair to her.

THREE SAMURAI ZORDS!? THAT'S...a bit much.

You have to wonder why other Ranger teams don't just have Zord drones.

Oh and here's the Dolphin Zord just laying there...so what is this grand strategy for her?

Teenagers? And how old are you two?

Oh and now Vexacus is claiming the nieces are traitors. Yeah...the guy who killed the last two generals...

Lothor: My nieces, WITH BRAINS! Seriously...either they were hiding it all this time or I just wasn't paying attention.

At least something was passed down in the family...though you still wonder if the Watanabe family is just evil and Kanoi and Cam are the exceptions.

No one can be that stupid...eh, there's always Bulk and Skull. (even if Skull is a piano savante and can handle himself better)

Family is family...says the guy who nearly killed his nephew last episode.

Just an alien...says the guy sent into space and who commands his own spaceship despite being from Earth.

Guess it's time to combo finish...and Marah and Shimazu are sitting ducks!

Figured; Kapri was the real brains and evil one...Marah's still Marah...and Shimazu's still...irrelevant.

Oh so it was a Destiny Bond thing. But why blow them up to activate it?

And now back to the battle of the cousins.

And what the heck is the Tori plan? Just a random dolphin missile?

OK I get dolphins have sharp teeth but a dolphin zord is just...DID CAM CO-OPT THAT FROM ANIMARIA TECH!?

Fish...be glad it's a mammal then.

Well we got our arm back...eh I guess the drones need more work.

Now for a real Zord...or mabe three/four into one.

Oh and the Mammoth...how do you resolve a headache this big?

Megazord!? THAT'S AN ULTRAZORD! And that's an ultra-fail for Kapri.

What plan? Your plan is "throw out Zords and see what happens"; and Shimazu's is...fetal position praying Vexacus doesn't kill him.

Guess they can't stand him either.

And...Shimazu's dead. OK...that's cold.

Hey think this mask looks good on me?

Wait they were on Vexacus' side all along!? Was this some sort of test for them!?

Oh yeah, we have motocross plots to resolve.

He made a decision and...HE'S ACTUALLY GIVING UP!?

Why? Because he isn't a fan of Rick Astley, that's why.

It feels weird he just suddenly came to this especially since he wasn't doing freestyle tricks until now.

Yeah it's an action sport so it isn't like Dustin's being fired...yet...

You weren't behind Dustin earlier, Kelly...nice change but...

Oh and then there's these two.

I seriously hope they avoid one another; but regardless Blake's in finals and Hunter isn't.

Oh do we need the slow-mo?

And the winner is...um, who cares?

Yeah it's all about who wins at what time; Blake won, pure and simple.

I'd say blood is thicker than water...but they're not blood. (more just legalities are thicker than water I suppose)

Thoughts:
I'm not sure we needed anymore motocross focus but with this the last one-shot before the finale, I suppose we had to close some stuff out with the motocross trio here (though it's strange that we get this for them and "Eye of the Storm" for Shane...yet Tori just gets Mirror World, which was good but not much for her other than showing her adaptability and good character) The Hunter/Blake story is decent enough sort of showing elements of how far fair play goes and the whole factor that Hunter's afraid of his little brother actually becoming better than him, ultimately sort of appreciating it but sort of leading to turmoil...and a really bad attempt to create an argument during a Zord fight that was more meant for Tori's character based on the footage. I do like Dustin seems to have a change of direction and admitting that racing isn't for him anymore, but the way it just comes out of nowhere feels bizarre; there's no build-up with the only thing being just that he never could top the Bradley brothers and probably Dustin realizing he has to make a name for himself elsewhere or become lost in the crowd. The conflict with Kelly feels rather forced too especially since she's against it most of the way and only agrees towards it at the end; really they should have had this grow somewhat but with so little time left, you get what you can take. As for the end of Shimazu...as I've joked, it isn't much but the way the show handled Saturnakura was pathetic and I do like we seem to have family discord with the nieces joining Vexacus...I just sort of wonder why since, once again, Vexacus never really fit in with Lothor's crew from the beginning being a bounty hunter, so why would they choose him over their own uncle!?

Storm Before the Calm Pt. 1: aka: Everyone Goes Belly Up (or: The Autumn Years)

Last time: Vexacus killed everyone. (yes even Shimazu cause the nieces are on his side)

I get deception can happen when it comes to ninjas but what do they gain working with Vexacus?

Yeah we're going to return to ditz mode to kill uncle Lothor...well I'll return to ditz mode, Marah's technically never left it.

So...does this mean they have the scroll, they don't have the scroll or who cares cause Vexacus is a creep?

They kill one general and suddenly they think they're hot stuff?

Um...Vexacus...earshot...he really needs to learn of internal monologues.

Oh and Dustin's complaining about motor oil. Seriously, the end of the world is upon us and Dustin's priorities remain skewed!

Why would Dustin forget oil? I mean if he packs his bags he could use tanning oil. Or if it's a cooking retreat it could be cooking oil.

Oh you don't get a competition, you're just in now. Congrats and thank me later.

US...Action...Games...I'd make a New Zealand joke except considering Disney owns the X Games...

Should I take back my harsh words about Kelly last time?....Nah.

Some Rangers have to work a lifetime to make a competition. Ninja Storm just needs a manager that pulls strings.

Let me guess, Tori: US Action surfing competition?

Oh...connection with the bosswoman. That works too.

Yeah, you're sort of a doofus, Dustin so it isn't like telling you was going to make things better.

Oh and they're doing sponsorships? What about the big competition Blake was supposed to go to?

I haven't seen anyone that fast since...McGraft? Eh, what about Yuuki? He was 91 too.

Wait, so an actual sponsorship to racing...or a Storm Chargers job. Um...big money, race how you want?

Lothor: This ship hasn't been this empty in a long time; if I want to laugh manically under a green light, let me!

Oh...he's in for it now. Those flames are Green...WITH EVIL!!!! (well it is a family color)

OK, we'll all laugh, not sure why but I was in a good mood.

Wait, so they're playing Vexacus? Um...considering ninja tactics, this could be the lie...or Vexacus could be the lie...(though from their personalities, the "we're competent all along" was the real ploy)

The Scroll of Density...George McFly's writings will finally be unleashed!

Wait a scroll that speaks of Lothor's entire history? So...this was a thing!?

WAIT...SO GATHERING ALL THOSE GENERALS...AND LETTING THEM DIE...WAS PART OF THE PLAN!? OK...that's sort of genius.

And the Abyss of Evil...yeah it's basically the Great Seal from Turboranger's endgame.

So you kill a bunch of generals, then raise them from an abyss...so...ghosts...zombies...living impaired...

BTW: should we tell the gerbil; I wasn't sure if we still need to give permission to him.

Why would Cam go; you know he hates sports...now Cyber-Cam...

Anyone can believe Dustin's air-headedness, he's basically the second-coming of Kimberly.

Look I guess you want to go Zordon and tell them to go but at least this is the season finale so it isn't a full "Different Shade of Pink" situation.

Yeah you can go but if you break your bones before another Lothor attack, don't come crying to me.

The US Action Games: like the X Games but with more pride.

Doesn't anyone realize they're playing the Ninja Storm theme song in the BG?

Hey you guys check in, I'm going after that redhead...no not Kelly, what am I nuts?

Oh come on, Cyber-Cam would have loved going to this!

They even have a roller coaster...well if Lothor doesn't destroy the world, Pineapple the Clown will.

Hunter stop picking up chicks and pick up my cousins...er, I mean...

Here's my number, if you want to be a Ranger, then we'll chat.

Look if you want to skateboard, wait until Shane's done with his.

If they have Kelzak Furies, why have the black goon squad behind them?

A few hands? What about 8 more?

CHAAAAAARGE!!! (and you three are...)

Should they be helping or not?

Hunter: I don't care what stupid town you're from but go back to it! (Boy: But why would I want to go back to lame old Reefside?)

They do remind me a lot of the Wind idiots from the start.

Oh and this isn't a metal detector; it's way shinier.

OK, go away, I think those three newbs ruined the moment.

Thinking? I doubt the word "think" is in their vocabulary.

Guys, we're ninjas. Leave it to the professional.

Whatever. I'm calling my bro Conner and telling him "never help anyone ever".

All I see here is tall grass. I think their ultimate plan involves Lyme Disease but I'm not sure why.

Oh great, Cam's amulet's gone nuts. That's not a good thing.

Frozen? OK, does anyone around here know a woman named Elsa? (what do you mean one of those three does?)

So the answer to climate change was in Cam's amulet all along.

Frozen, now it looks like a statue.

Maybe pulling it out of space-time wasn't such a good idea anymore, Cam.

So hot is good, cold is evil. Sure it wasn't just a pre-warning for Flurious?

So cold things are evil...WE MUST STOP THAT UDONNA BEFORE SHE RUINS US ALL!

Simplicity and difficulty...not sure what it means but the guinea pig has been obtuse in that way.

Good news/bad news? Um, but you found the Abyss so what's the bad news?

Yeah that Abyss is just a full on rectum ready to blow it's load of diahrrea.

Oh and the bad news: I hope you like extreme sports, Uncle!

So what's Vexacus been planning since the generals died...probably nothing since there's no one left to kill.

Yeah OK I get why he kept Vexacus around: he's basically the wafer mint to blow Mr. Creosote.

Oh you two are back. Did you hire any more generals to kill?

Vexacus: (in Marvin the Martian voice) YOU MAKE ME VERY ANGRY! VERY ANGRY INDEED!!!

Oh here's a scroll; hope you like the big time, Vexacus!

Doesn't he realize that growing big is a bad thing?

Kapri: Hey I got these shades from Jungle Karma Pizza, think they'll catch on?

OK, maybe wait until there's more sunlight before breaking the Raybans out.

Really this is the only season that embraces Green being evil stuff...or Watanabe stuff...

Cam: Yeesh, why Vexacus? I thought Shark Week was over!

Cyber-Cam, don't just sit there surprising me.

It is a Watanabe thing: all the Cam and Lothor stuff is Green.

May as well just send the cyber-duplicate, not like much will be lost.

And I thought the earshot problems was just Vexacus; Cam let them get away from the crowds first!

Guys, it's time to play Roy Scheider to a shark.

We all simultaneously need to use the bathroom; the food here is just...bleh.

Wait the emergency hatch was near the Abyss of Evil or did those two decide to visit Ninja Ops first?

So why the heck is the Samurai Star in a different hatch anyway?

Time to get these tank treads a-movin'!

Maybe forgetting the sword is a bit of a problem.

Time for the pullstring attack...and he parried it!?

You're not Roberta Flack, Shane...you're not even Lauren Hill!

ABOUT TIME...no wait, never mind; he has his Shark Zord.

Oh and Kelly's still trying to make them compete. Yeesh we really needed cyber clones of the other Rangers aside from Cam.

Kelly: Stupid Kiwi running an American sports competition.

Hey, it's one of those old fashion "evil villain earthquakes!"

I think this is what "The Gate" was building up to.

What victory, Vexacus; considering that giant hole in the ground opening up?

Neat, the Thunders get the shark sword...wait shark sword against a shark, how poetic.

Don't slice him too much; you still need to make the soup.

Goodbye? But they just met you, Vexacus!

Oh great, a double sacrifice!?

Wha...he killed the Bradleys!?

And down goes the wafer thin mint.

I think this is what Terry Jones felt too.

Yeah, those two are gone. We never should have sided with them. Or added them to the motocross team.

How should I know which is your boyfriend, Tori!?

Not sure you should return to Ninja Ops with the rumbling downstairs.

Lothor: Seriously I never liked Cyber-Cam. What was my nephew thinking?

Ah, guess it's time to bug the clone, huh?

Look you're not my actual nephew but you are close enough that killing you wouldn't be a problem.

First Hunter and Blake, now Cyber-Cam...this is a really grim finale.

Keep trying. Keep trying. Keep trying. (Dad...are you a computer program too?)

Oh boy, uncle Kiya's finally paying a visit!

Oh Cyber-Cam's alive. Nice.

How? Well family does know what family is doing.

Yeah maybe being a twin isn't a good thing, especially when he's still human.

Yeah I forgot I had a twin. By the way, how are Marah and Kapri's parents, I know I'm related to one of them.

Wait he wants Cam? Instead of embarrassing that guinea pig bro of his?

A world where the ultimate evil rules? Funny, Astronema felt the same...and Bansheera...and Viktor Adler...

KNEEL BEFORE KIYA...ER, LOTHOR!

Yeah...you're nuts, uncle.

Time to blow another HQ!

And I thought you had no interest in your twin?

They may as well join in; not much else left this season.

Final showdown time! Nephew vs. Uncle!

And this is impressive, especially within the closed space.

HOW COME HE HAS LASERS AND I DON'T!?

There goes the computer. I doubt Cyber-Cam could survive that.

They better not destroy the TV satellite; I want to see who finally ends up with the Cursed Armor! SMITTY!? WHO IS SMITTY!?!?!?

Oh come on, why are you harder to destroy than Ninja Ops!?

Dang, he turned his own twin into a flying bullet...

Well I suppose Lothor's finally gotten revenge on all those years of scorn. If only someone saw him as just a joker and not just nuts.

Oh great...so no temple and no Ninja Ops...want to turn Storm Chargers into a base?

CAM...SENSEI...CYBER-CAM...IS ANY WATANABE AROUND!?

Eh, I still say Cyber-Cam snuck somewhere to survive on the net but who knows if anyone can keep up with how much storage data he needs.

And Cam's just stuck in bondage tormenting Kiya. And to think he's come so far.

And of course Cam knows of this dumb scroll; they seem to know a lot about these things.

Wait...Kiya stole that and knew this would happen? Dang it I hate pre-destiny.

Look a scroll makes you travel through time; a scroll that tells Lothor his life story is easy.

Hmm...so did that Scroll of Destiny mention all the other failed groups before you?

Rest of the scroll? You mean some section you made up where the heroes stop me? Really, I ripped that...er, it never existed.

Oh so he's trying to defeat destiny...really if Lothor joined with Ransik, he could have had a greater chance.

Thoughts: The first part of the finale of Ninja Storm is actually good and I think really just put everything into perspective really well. Sure it required a bit of retconning but the concept that "Lothor planned to have all his generals and monsters die so he could revive them with the Abyss of Evil" is actually a genius move of his, sort of allowing for why he took things so easy all season in letting things get to this point. Heck even the nieces turning on him for Vexacus being a part of it worked; obviously they wouldn't turn on blood that easily and thus Vexacus fell to be the final sacrifice for this plan to finally work. There's also the issue of the other side of family with Cam and Kanoi: I'm a bit surprised Kanoi never brought up the Scroll of Destiny prior but Cam knowing of it shows that they did know and that they were prepping for this moment, even if it's become so dire with the Thunder Rangers gone, the Samurai powers inoperable and Ninja Ops gone. So really the final question is: if the Abyss opens and it's just the Wind Rangers...are they fully capable enough of dealing not just with Lothor but with everything they fought all season combined in one final brutal assault?

Storm Before the Calm Pt. 2: aka: Blow Away (or: Lothor Finally Cracks)

OK, watching the opening one more time, the "ancient scrolls" part seem to make more sense now as if solidifying the destiny of the heroes. And even Cam's ridiculous spaceship was in the opening! (but what was that dragon thing?)

This can't be how it ends...OUR FINAL EPISODE IS A HUGE REMODELING PROJECT!?

We had ejection seats. We're thinking of using the tech to build new mecha called Knightmares.

Yeah all those named Watanabe are sadly gone.

And Sensei survives...and is human!? Eh, I miss CGI guinea pig already.

So yeah, my bro cares about me after all; he hated seeing me as a guinea pig so he turned me back!

Yeah as for Cam...I'd say give Cyber Cam the powers but the powers are in space with Lothor now.

If only I hugged Kiya before he went this far...

So the reason we ninjas were here is due to an evil gate. It's sort of why no other villain group tried to attack us until now.

OK, so you have to fill the Abyss of Evil to use it. Again: if certain villains knew of this (say...Rita...Astronema...Bansheera...heck even Ransik), this would have been a massive advantage to them. But I guess when you don't have "magic ninja stealing balls"...

And...there's the other reason: basically Cam travelling through time screwed everything up. Eh, if only Alex and Ransik were partners...

Still would be funny if other old MotW costumes were in there from throughout...or at least those who still had spirits despite stuff like the Z-Wave.

Say nephew, do you like my new nightlight!? I thank you for giving it to me!

WAIT, CHUUBO'S STILL AROUND!? HE'S A GENERAL, WHY NOT SEND HIM INTO THE CRACK!?!? (unless he's the wafer-thin mint and not Vexacus)

Um...your nieces are evil too and still family. So...responsibility?

Oh...so paranoia of traitors is more important than family. Maybe they should have remained brainless ditzes.

So are they evil or just following orders? Eh in some cases, that's the same thing.

Oh two more tiny bits of evil won't hurt the gaping hole of darkness.

So how to stop the Abyss of Evil...well if you weren't ignoring continuity there would be all the other Ranger teams but...nah.

More ninjas? Where...oh yeah...but isn't he about to crash it and kill all those other guys?

Well every ninja except the Thunder Academy's second...well aside you five.

Dragonforce vehicle? That cheesy CGI serpent thing from the final opening?

Cam's spaceship has a dragon mode? Yeesh, it still looks better than Serpentera last season.

We interrupt extreme sports for the apocalypse. Thanks for attending and have a nice life...or what's left of it.

(Sees dragon in space) Still better than Wild Force's Serpenterra.

Your fault, Shane? Um, you're not related to Lothor so...how? Why?

Guys, Lothor stayed in space and he really is that powerful so it isn't like you could have.

Those three were always meant to be Rangers? Eh, I'd say that with others but it's hard for me to see how Kanoi is thinking.

Yeah, my bro ripped this off before he ran off; it's a whole "denial" thing...though maybe if he kept it he could have killed you guys when you were pulled over.

Destiny has a strange way...probably why Zordon just left them alone.

I nearly doubted it with how stupid you three were early on but...destiny is funny.

You know how those Nostradamus prognosticators get making interpretations of everything.

Guess we're diving into the Abyss...hope these suits come with snorkel gear.

WHO THE HECK IS DRIVING MOBILE OPS WITH CAM GONE AND CYBER-CAM...ALSO GONE!?

Sorry, this is a no Kelzak zone!

Oh and Lothor has a Zord now...and it looks like Tau Zant's final form.

Let's go...on bikes? No Zords?

Chuubo's always a survivalist I've noticed.

Cam? What about his cousins?

And of course lightning breath; that is standard for this season.

So he's shooting lightning to open the Abyss? Um...is that what he's using the Samurai powers for?

IT'S MORPH...ER, MEGAZORD TIME!

Wait where the heck did he get that weird surreal CGI background?

It's Cam...and those two.

And Hunter's attitude remains. Yeah he'd let them die.

Cam: Sigh...cousins are still cousins. Besides, they could still be Kara Zor-El and Jennifer Walters down the line.

OK sure we'll save them but speed it up cause it's still gonna blow.

Aww...and Marah still likes Dustin.

IF YOU WANT TO FLIRT, DO SO IN HIS FACE! LET'S JUST SAVE THE NINJAS!

Oh...Chuubo's still here.

I'd say save him too but...nah.

Guys I know you want to fight but...TICKING TIME BOMB, SHIP ABOUT TO BLOW...

And Lothor's just owning the Storm Megazord.

Lothor: YEP, IT'S A TV SHOW! I SAID IT! THIS WAS "I LOVE LOTHOR" ALL ALONG! AND NEXT SEASON WILL BE "MAKE ROOM FOR...Tommy", whose's Tommy?

Things are going boom guys...any moment now...

Yeah, I still believe Marah was faking "competence" a few episodes ago. She's a nice girl.

Guys, you have powers so blow some stuff!

And now the ninjas are just flying all over the place...eh, space is breathable, they'll be alright.

WAIT CHUUBO GETS TO SURVIVE WITHOUT GOING INTO THE ABYSS OF EVIL!?!?

Those characters...something tells me it's a sign of what Disney really wants.

Teleport? What about the giant dragon thing?

"Have a nice day." "Thank you." (blows up)

Taste your defeat...and it tastes like Wolverine claws!

THEY HIT HIM WITH A POWER SPHERE!? Oh Lothor. (WA WA WA WAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!)

Lothor: IF I'M LOSING THAT WAY, I MAY AS WELL BLOW YOU UP TOO!

These ejection seats are just that powerful, aren't they?

So...Storm Zord's gone, Thunder Zord's gone...well Samurai Star's still around but no one unlocked it.

Oh...and the Abyss of Evil's still oozing purple...IVAN, CUT THAT OUT!

IT'S THE MOTHERLODE!!!!!

Congratulations. You saved the world. And your reward: YOU HAVE TO FACE EVERY VILLAIN EVER!!! (maybe dying was a safer bet)

It's strange: this army actually feels even more intimidating than Astronema's since hers was mostly mooks with the MotW on other worlds. This is...basically every MotW and then some plus all generals. Yeah...the Ninjas are boned.

Failed? Kiya was a good ninja who was a tad goofy and over ambitious and had a scroll that mostly told the story he wanted. I say that's success.

CHAAAAAAAAARGE!

It's intimidating but they're all just crowded together so...more or less?

Dustin: HEY WE NEVER FACED THIS GUY! WE'RE AT A DISADVANTAGE!

Three ninjas vs. a bajillion monsters. So...citizens of Angel Grove? Blue Bay Harbor? Anyone?

And funny how Hunter remembers his Battlizer and Shane forgot.

It's Blake...AND A BUNCH OF RANDOM NINJAS!

Oh, there's the plastic abs.

Oh and Chuubo's here too.

EVERY NINJA FOR THEMSELVES!

Oh so that's the point: throw them back into the crack and they won't get back...or will they?

Yes, we so needed to see slow motion flips from Tori.

Dustin: I wish I had a clone this season...oh well, I'll make one.

Did the boomerang just burst from Blake's body?

OK, you get an explosion, and you, and you and...I can do this all day!

OK, WHO ORDERED THE BARBECUED GENERALS!?

That Battlizer just shattered so easily. Dang cheap plastic.

Well we got rid of...a few mooks...but Lothor's still a problem.

So now it's 5 on 1...maybe now it will be advantageous? Or not?

Yeah remember, Lothor's been rather unstoppable.

And what the heck is he going to do with Samurai powers? He better not be a kagemusha too!

HE'S USING CAM'S ORB TO ABSORB THEIR POWERS AWAY!? That's...efficient yet shocking.

Hey Uncle, you have something of mine!

Guess that went nowhere. And Cam grew so much.

Look he may be annoying as heck but he's still one of ours! Blood or not!

Note to Cam: go back in time and tell them to not make the Samurai Orb this powerful.

And I'll throw a Kalish-splosion to seal the deal!

So now it's 6 on 1 with the 6 no longer with powers...yeesh, I admire the guts but Lothor just keeps having it easy.

Yep...just too easy. Seriously, he's probably one of the most unstoppable final villains outside maybe Trakeena.

OK, let's rush him! Maybe he'll drop the...why isn't he dropping it!?

Heh...change that: Trakeena went bonkers after Deviot fused with her, while Lothor's still lucid. (crazy but lucid) His advantage.

What can you do? Beg for mercy? Bring in Sensei? Or your nieces? Or...um...

"We may not be Power Rangers...but we still have power!" (and with the flags behind them, that is just the most manly thing ever said in this franchise)

POWER OF VOICE ECHOS! (Echos echos)

SUPER FINGER BEAMS OF DOOM, GO!

I actually feel sorry for him. (not that much but...still...)

He's gone...and no more purple smoke. Wait did the purple smoke even do anything?

So there was so much evil that Lothor basically just made it implode...yeah, as smart as Lothor was, he was still rather dumb to not realize that.

I feel sorry for Cam. He never got to play catch with his not-so-favorite uncle.

But why do we need Ranger powers? I mean Lothor's done for so...

OK, apocalypse canceled; BACK TO EXTREME SPORTS!

I'm going to miss all this ridiculous trickery of these Rangers.

Poor Tori; they really needed a surfing event.

Third for Dustin? Well considering the last minuteness of his decisions, at least he didn't just crush everyone.

I still don't see Shane as the next Tony Hawk; why not get his brother's company to sponsor him?

Shane, what did you tell them?

And now it's graduation day...and no scroll chasing required.

Um...sensei...Hunter and Blake are Thunder ninjas. Don't give them scrolls for stuff they never did.

Oh it's the Thunder Sensei. Joint graduation?

Cam's is definitely honorary; sure he saved the world but never took the courses. Probably has a half-credit to make up too.

Yep you're all Wind Ninjas. Even the Thunder Ninjas.

Um...does anyone else even get what Sensei's talking about? Do they even know they were the Power Rangers?

YEAH, GROUP HUG! AND FREE SUNFLOWER SEEDS FOR...wait, why does Sensei still have bags of it in the dojo?

Eh, you know you could move in with Blake. Would make your relationship easier.

What is Tori's future anyway?

And Hunter's becoming the new Thunder teacher. I guess Blake was choice 1 but he's a biker now so...

Do what; tease the new guys?

Um...you two graduated Space High School...or are their ages different from Earth's?

So what's bigger, Marah's head or her butt?

Meh, maybe I can feed guinea pig food to those two; could make them smarter.

THOSE THREE!? Um...here we go again?

Hey, long story but either I come here or I go to that boring school back in Reefside with my dork twin. NOTHING EVER HAPPENS IN REEFSIDE!

Cam: A trio not like the others...where did I see this before?

Guess this means Shane turned down the sponsorship?

Besides: it's probably too late for Shane and Dustin to learn how to surf.

And thus, Blue Bay Harbor returned to it's natural state: a random skate park with BMX trails and clean surfing beaches. (and maybe a ninja or two)

Thoughts: Despite the problems we've had all season, I was rather impressed with this finale and just how Lothor had everything under control until the end. This really is about his cruelty and just how he could get away with everything; with his only real downfall being that his Abyss plan was probably too good, considering that all it took was him for it to implode in on itself with a bit of push from the Ranger trio to do so. If anything, Lothor is probably one of the best villains of the franchise and doesn't get the credit he deserves, both for his wackier moments and just how he was this close to winning in the end. (and heck the way he went down wasn't even DEM since the Wind trio just drew on the power in himself allowing for the final collapse of the Abyss once Lothor was inside. I do also like some of the other final touches here, from Dustin beginning his new career in freestyle (despite the final decision in the final scene) to Cam saving Marah and Kapri and them joining the Wind Academy to even three more who "aren't like the others" joining as our three graduate, showing the cycle begins once again...though really I say Eric's twin has more of a future than he does.

Next Time on Power Rangers: The Red Turbo Ranger. Zeo Ranger I. The White Ranger. The Green Ranger. Throughout his entire career of fighting evil and saving the day, Tommy Oliver has taken many guises. But now, the legendary Ranger has taken a dangerous turn when his work to protect the planet has been co-opted by a mad businessman in his schemes to bring prehistoric terrors into the modern age! In order to stop the horrific dinosaur threat he may have help create, Tommy must now find a new era of "teenagers with attitude" to help him stop him before the planet becomes extinct! But these heroes aren't like the kids of Angel Grove; and if they don't figure out their true purpose, they may become fossils before they can use their true prehistoric potential!

COMING SOON: POWER RANGERS DINO THUNDER!

Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion: Stage 13: Shirley at Gunpoint

It's impossible to take anything C.C. criticizes seriously if she's doing it with a pizza mascot in her arms.

Death is one of those things that one has to figure out how to deal with in a world where you've become a killer and you must kill in order to achieve the world you wish to reach for. Lelouch has killed since starting down this path and will continue to kill in order to create the ideal world he wishes to hold, but somehow the murder of Shirley's father has ended up hurting him more than killing family members like Clovis or watching the death of so many others he's caused as part of his campaign as Zero. Obviously C.C. tells him "this is the path you've gone down, there's no turning back", but it's really tough when someone you know has someone they love die like a family member; sure Lelouch hates his family and thus doesn't mind offing a Brittania or two, but these things still matter to others and it's impossible to say he is willing to create a world without misery if he's just going to keep killing. He has a hard time with it throughout the episode, though it sort of also comes into view again during his next campaign, which involves intercepting a Brittanian operation to stop a major JSF general from escaping with a load of Sakuradate that they obviously want to use in hopes of being negotiated for release. In order to show that Lelouch basically has no remorse as Zero, he just decides to blow up the ship himself, killing the general and nuking the Sakuradate as a means to eliminate as many Brittanian forces as possible and thus show himself even more as a murderer without remorse to the likes of Suzaku. But his own weakness remains in play and isn't something to take lightly, especially when Shirley is lured to the combat zone after Villetta makes the accusation that Zero is Lelouch...and in the end, Shirley ends up finding that out; thus basically bringing more conflicts regarding the death of her father into all this. (though you'd think with how many people he's killed, someone else would have tried to do this sooner to Lulu)

Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion: Stage 14: Geass vs. Geass

So does Shirley still remember who matters to her life...OK she still remembers Kallen, we're good.

Due to the murder of her father and potentially the discovery of Zero's true identity as Lelouch, Shirley isn't necessarily in the best of positions as things stand. Unfortunately it got worse when during the last confrontation, there was bloodshed and the possibility that Shirley killed someone, later turned out to be Villetta (who now also knows Zero is Lelouch and last time was just a potential guess that turned out to be correct)...but somehow she's alright but somehow discovered by Ohgi of all people. She really feels like the representation of an innocent caught up in all the madness of war and death that she really can't handle, especially with how everything just compounds one after another on her back and making it all the harder for her to figure out what to do especially with the thought that she may have spilled blood herself. And it's in this weakened state that she's found by someone else who has a bit of an obsessive personality of his own: his name is Mao and he's been stalking Shirley for a few episodes now for some reason, which we find out is as a means to use her to get to Lelouch by way of his own Geass...which is just straight up mind control instead of mental manipulation. When Lelouch encounters Mao himself, he knows that there is something off with him from how he even defeats him in chess and obviously it's seen with him using Shirley as his weapon to kill Lelouch to use the Zero reveal as something to manipulate her into eliminating another Geass user. Ultimately this falls apart for two reasons: for some reason Lelouch brought photos from Shirley's room about her obsession with him and thus used that to snap her out of Mao's control...and Mao is a bit nutty himself wearing headphones all the time of C.C.'s voice due to his obsession with the green-haired Geass granter. (and it isn't made better with C.C. coming with Lulu) In the end, Lelouch does the only thing he can do to try and fix Shirley's problem and Geass' her...but he does so to a point that she basically forgets who he is completely; I don't like they had to take it this far since it feels like it erased everything including the mere fact that her own father is dead (sure you can remove Zero killed him but at least keep the idea that he was killed as part of the war or something) and it just ends up making Shirley as someone whose personality can be rewritten at a whim ; sure that's the only time one can be Geass'd so it isn't like Lulu can do it again but to take it to such extremes was a bit much...though as the preview suggests, this probably is why those with Geass end up being alone in the end.

Fraggle Rock: Ep. 61: Scared Silly

We probably didn't see Boober's room until now so we couldn't see the awesomeness of his jammies.

It's weird that for someone who isn't as big a fan of fun as Boober, he seems to have a knack for scaring other Fraggles; though it's actually a health reason since it tests a Fraggle organ called a "baloobius" to make sure that they don't have any problems with themselves. This episode sort of shows what happens when someone who isn't that good at dealing with scary things like Wembley goes through when he has to go through his constant "baloobius testing" to the point that he just wants to prove that he can scare Boober to get back at him. Unfortunately, Wembley takes advice from Philo and Gunge on how to scare another Fraggle and that really doesn't go very well, first in that Boober's just rather immune to rather childish versions of being scared...and also because due to one of those ridiculous "misunderstanding plots" that tend to happen in pop culture, Wembley ends up thinking when Boober takes a nap that he's "blown up" from having experienced his idea of scaring him. There's a thing by Marjorie about sort of not wanting to take revenge and facing the consequences and it really isn't that bad a lesson; heck it actually would have been great if somehow Wembley went too far and Boober just sort of doesn't want to talk to him...but the "dissapearance leading to misunderstandings until it's all cleared up" plot sort of ruins the episode in the end. Though at least we got to see the Trash Heap's minions in the rock running around with masks on randomly, which is funny.

Doc & Sprocket:
Doc gets into a bit of a prank war with Shimmelfinney...though some of it I wonder is less Shimmelfinney and more Sprocket making Doc think it's Shimmelfinney.

Songs: The songs in this episode have a fun bit of scariness to them: we get "Scare Them Boo!" by Philo and Gunge to sort of convince Wembley of ideas to get back at Boober; and then we get the really fun "Very Scary (If This Don't Getcha)" when Wembley preps Boober's room to get him...even if Boober's seen it all before.

Postcard: Matt sees what he thinks is a Silly Creature "baloobius tester" (an alarm clock) but gets beat up by boys with pillows for invading. (oh and there's neat cameoes of Godzilla and Michael Jackson in said room)

Fraggle Rock: Ep. 62: The Great Radish Caper

Can someone please pull the other radishes so Boober can have his en croute?

With how much work has been done to connect the Fraggles and Doozers last season, it was probably about time that they worked to finally connect them with the Gorgs; and since Mokey tends to go out to the garden more often due to being the radish picker, obviously she would be a gateway that way like Red was with meeting Cotterpin. In this case, Mokey is going out to get some radishes to help out Boober when he ends up seeing Junior taking care of a huge radish he named Geraldine that she wants to make into what Boober is hoping to cook; so she sort of uses a bit of psychology to convince him that his obsession with the vegetable is sort of masking his own lonely nature and thus a need for friends. It's interesting in that you sort of think that Mokey is actually working her way into being Junior's friend and maybe working with him through his problems to make things a lot easier for the two of them and maybe for all the other Fraggles out there. Unfortunately things sort of don't go that way: she suggests Junior goes out and "searches the world for a friend" (instead of, you know, becoming his friend as is), leading to him to leave the castle as the other Fraggles steal Geraldine...until somehow we get this whole "he's lonely for a radish" thing and Geraldine is the only friend he has and it gets even messier when he just leaves thinking he has to search for Geraldine while Mokey has to work things out to get the radish back to him. While I get the connection gardeners get with some of their prized vegetation, this was a bit ridiculous that this was all about a giant radish and that really Mokey is just continuing to mask Junior's own lonliness by letting him hang on to Geraldine even more than you'd want him to; some would call this sentimental but I think this is really ridiculous when it just feels like things have reached a point where the friend Junior needs is Mokey herself...yeah she's a Fraggle and it removes a major obstacle for the Fraggles for their food but they're pests to Gorgs so it isn't like it's going to be that peaceful as of yet. Besides, what's going to happen when Geraldine ultimately dies anyway since I doubt a radish can live that long...

Doc & Sprocket:
Just when Doc is about to meet up with an old high school friend, Sprocket gets caught in a trunk...you can guess where this ends up.

Songs: "What if a Friend" is a bit too maudlin for me, mostly because it's just Junior lamenting over a radish. Seriously...is this really what he laments about now?

Postcard: Matt tries to "free radishes" for Silly Creatures when he thinks they're searching for them in a "Gorg Castle" (a German castle remains).

ARIENAI TO WAKUWAKU MON DA (and everything else in between)
A Pretty Cure Rewatch
Stage 2: Futari wa Pretty Cure Max Heart

39 (9 until Splash Star): (crying) The last lacrosse episode...I made it to the last lacrosse episode...and as usual it's garbage. I don't see what's the point of trying to have an episode that basically says "my way of playing is the only way to play, you can't win with your way!", which is really the only thing that this episode tended to teach. Considering the hard road the Otagaku captain had to go through due to how she isn't a genius like Nagisa at this sort of thing, it just feels sour when she just switches to the Nagisa method because she hangs out with her and eats takoyaki with her just before the championship. But what really hurts is how this is exactly like the last episode with lacrosse, especially in Circulas just magically transporting the Cures to a negative zone with no one in it and Nagisa returning just in time to win with the winning goal...LIKE LAST TIME! This episode just re-inforced all the good stuff lacrosse episodes could have (like last season mostly), they're garbage and just end up cuasing more problems than good. Oh...and don't give a congratulatory farewell to Happynen if none of you interacted with her outside Seekun prior to that final scene!

40 (8 until SS): Wait...didn't we have this plot last time!? The plot of "someone is having problems so the Cures encourage one who is playing sports to have fun and it changes things" is the exact same lesson we got for the Otagaku captain but here for Nagisa's brother Ryota! It is a bit weird that out of nowhere and without warning we get an episode involving Ryota having a skill at a sport (revealed to be badminton) and his attempt to join a local club with it considering that we are so close to the end and I sort of figured why not just leave Nagisa as the Misumi jock...but I suppose they have to have it be a genetic thing regardless of how normal the parents are. I sort of forgot that the stuff with Hikari and Hikaru really starts intensifying at this point with the two reading each other's minds from a distance and Baldez actually stopping Viblis from attacking Hikari any further when they realize that something is happening finally and that this is a reason why they can't attack her any further. The limits of what happens and when to these characters just borders on the ridiculous with what they can see and how we can see nothing in return.

Futari wa Pretty Cure Max Heart 2: The Friend of the Snowy Field

I like Nagisa's name of Poochy for the phoenix chick...better idea: why not change Hikari's name to Poochy, she feels like that's her real name!

Having seen both Cure movies again from the Futari era, I still say this is just a stronger movie due to it feeling like an actual movie. It has actual development and an arc for all the characters involved in it amidst all the combat and Cure stuff. We have Nagisa and Honoka's whole arc of "are we really friends or not" which I think is just a nice final test for the two of them, while we have Hikari somehow actually proving herself with the whole situation with Hinata in this movie and that she really is the true embodiment of the power of light that they are looking for whose power is awakening. In fact I think this movie is one of the few times Hikari is done well; sure she's still as annoying as ever and needs to be helped out a few times (see how the guardian of the Garden of Clouds saves her from that Zakenna), but this movie doesn't make her feel useless and has her purpose laid out with who she is with the Queen's power and shows the power that she truly possesses being the embodiment of light given human form. Even the speech after Hinata's supposed death and her "awakened power" to save the phoenix just felt like a strong moment with her showing doubts but doing what she has to do due to being the Queen's power; if we had more moments of this sort of Hikari and less useless nonsense with her randomly being approached by the Guardians and firing one shot an episode while acting useless, maybe I'd hate her a lot less than I do. And the Nagisa/Honoka stuff still has power in it's own way: I love the whole Shiho/Rina thing about whether or not Honoka is actually a "false friend" and how Nagisa can determine that and the fight between the two is still powerful and heartbreaking, really only hurt on who is conscious at what time due to the power. (it makes me wonder: can they only possess one at a time in brainwashed control mode cause it felt like the moment they switched to Nagisa, Honoka's spell was broken so we at least got a short period with each brainwashed) And the way that it ends with Hinata giving them power at the cost potentially of her life...it's cheesy but it works really well; plus it shows how this feels like a complete story and one that can be told without...those annoying plastic rods of doom.

As for the negatives...mostly its' just random stuff. The whole basis for the Nagisa/Honoka fight is...sigh...Fuji-P; it just feels ridiculous they're still doing this despite Nagisa remembering from season 1 that they're just friends and nothing more! As much as I hate Fuji-P, doesn't she even remember one of the things from the original 26 episodes? Likewise, Nagisa magically getting good at snowboarding is ridiculus in itself; why not just let Honoka lead? Oh and I also sort of realize that the Garden of Clouds is basically just a prototype of Fresh's Land of Sweets, complete with a magical baby, an elder, and a world of random creatures of the same species with no real powers of their own. (here being flying squirrels instead of ferrets) And another random semi-negative: if Freezen and Frozen are associated with the Dark Zone, why do they want to conquer our world before/instead of the Evil King? Like the Dark Witch, there's no explanation how they tie to the villains...but then again we don't need it for every villain lest we get...sigh...another Baron Salamander.

Oh and evil Cure White's voice is definitely a prototype for C.C. And really when the ice brothers start falling apart, Frozen literally just turns into Girinma a year and a half early.

41 (7 until SS): Why...why can't Nagisa realize there are other guys that like her? Why can't she just connect with someone else? Why does she have to go after the blandest, most boring boy in existence...is it to make a point? Seriously, we're at the very, very last ever Fuji-P storyline and it feels like nothings changed from the beginning and it's still just a complete, utter waste of time. It's sad when I actually even think Hikari's more interesting than Nagisa's love life, but the funny thing is...I actually just picked up the anime DVD set of "Space Runaway Ideon" the other day and realize that basically Hikari and Hikaru's growth and the whole evolution of her power is just like the growth of the Ide power within that mech show, with the idea that it just gets bigger and more explosive the closer the series gets to it's end...sure it isn't like Shiny Luminous is going to nuke planets yet (and that's not even the full power of the Ideon!), but it's more entertaining just seeing the useless blonde become more and more nuclear the more Heartiels she gains and the closer she becomes to being the Queen again. Though it is still stupid they say "we're getting stronger too and need Hikari to grow so we can grow" honestly; that's just an excuse to keep the Guardians as relevant when really their relevance should be...none.

42 (6 until SS): Well...I got other things to talk about with this episode. OK so we got an ice statue Zakenna that basically acts exactly like Freezen and Frozen (well a bit less powerful) and it's super loyal and obedient; yet those two want to control the world? Is there any explanation as to where they came from? (oh yeah, it's created by Uragaros so of course it isn't as powerful) And then there's the Lulun scene: I presume that everything is required for Hikari to use her attachment, so when she untransforms, does that weaken Hikari's power? (no wonder so few fairies are used as combat/transformation devices later...aside from "kawaiiness") But hey, the Ideon-ness of the growth of the power of Hikari and Hikaru continues and it gets more ridiculous as Hikaru's power of darkness finally awakens. And because of that...it's just hilarious seeing the power utilized in that sort of way.

Well at least the good/interesting part of the episode is mentioned. Otherwise...it's the OTHER conclusion to the Nagisa/Fuji-P story...the stupid/pathetic/"I prefer the status quo and don't want to do anything to change it otherwise" nonsense one. As I mentioned at the end of Futari, I like that ending because it feels like Nagisa was being honest to herself and actually realized it wasn't going to work out with the way things were. Yet despite all that, she does the whole nonsense again for another season and when it finally reaches it's conclusion...she pulls the "I love you but can only say so when you're not around and still want to be awkward around you" bullcrap ending. The ending last season was way more mature and introspective; this ending is just for a lovestruck puppy that is never going to resolve anything...and considering this is the last ever Fuji-P episode, it never does resolve. Nagisa rather live in bliss with a crush than do anything about it but to say stuff and not say so in his face while he acts as bland and bishonen as ever. (oh and she claims next episode "I confessed my love for him"...meh, no you didn't, you just yelled it out and then acted like your stupid nervous self like usual...unless it's an internal "I love you realization" moment and you could have done that at any time since Futari...) It's pathetic and a massive reason why this is way worse than the original series.

43 (5 until SS): Last season when the seniors graduated, we didn't really get anything on Nagisa and Honoka respectively taking over the lacrosse and science clubs until Max Heart started. So...why the heck did we need this special "oh and here's whose taking over the clubs next year" episode other than one more episode at the school and one more excuse to fuse any friends that aren't Nagisa and Honoka together again one more time? Really, with the way Shiho, Rina and Yuriko ran those clubs too as much, they deserve as much respect...but no, they don't have Cure powers or connections with Akane and a physical embodiment of light so they just run things behind the scenes even with their departure. Also, I don't get why it's a big deal that Hikaru's darkness is awakening now mostly because...with how many gifts Hikari had as Shiny Luminous, why the heck does she get to awaken her power in a different way and yet Hikaru has to do it the "natural way" instead? And that makes me think of something else: they keep talking about the power of darkness growing out of control...but what about light: what if there is too much light in the world that there is no darkness, isn't that also breaking the balance? (according to this show...who cares because Light is always good and nothing bad can ever come of too much light...it makes me appreciate later seasons like Suite...and even sort of DokiDoki...which do the "both sides can exist in harmony" element way better)

Wait have we ever met the girl taking over the science club prior; the science club just feels so empty outside Honoka and Yuriko.

44 (4 until SS): We're finally at the end...and of course, the interesting stuff is with Hikari and Hikaru and not with the regular battle stuff. The endgame is actually interesting with those two and continues to show what could have been in actually discussing the interesting elements about the similarities of light and darkness and how those two were basically just humanoids weaponized for a war due to gaining sentience despite being the embodiments of light and darkness themselves. If this was a better Cure season then this actually would be a monumental moment and sort of the culmination of everything we've seen. However this is probably one of the season's best moments...because everything else about this season is terrible and it's one of the only times we get something neat and interesting as opposed to the garbage and mediocrity we've been forced with. it's sad that one of the few moments that actually gives you chills is just what Hikaru says to Hikari: he does have people who care about him but they aren't telling him what he is and what's happening to him as the darkness awakens: he doesn't have the Evil King telling him anything or of course the annoyance of Queen giving him advice to awaken his power, nor does he have anything to utilize the power and weaponize it as was what happened when Hikari became Shiny Luminous: he's just a little boy who has become the embodiment of darkness and there's a feeling he doesn't even want to be that. If there's one annoying thing about how the season was handled, it's that Hikari should have ahd a similar growth arc, but instead she gets fairies and Cure powers and actual "friends" and all the boy has is the Guardians.

Oh and the last ever Zakenna shows up here. And it's about as generic as ever being some leaves that become a serpent dragon that is randomly summoned by the Guardians while they play chicken once again with the Sparkle Braces. (maybe it's a good thing we don't get the same MotW in every season after this...well in a name element, the MotW are extremely similar regardless)

45 (3 until SS): SEEKUN, GET IN THE CHAIRLECT ALREADY AND BRING THIS GARBAGE TO AN END!!!!!

There is something interesting said here by Intelligen of all characters regarding what the Guardians want to accomplish: if they full awaken the power of Darkness and it consumes light, then there will literally be nothing left: no light, no darkness, nothing but Chaos itself that existed from the beginning and will exist when the universe itself ends. It's an interesting concept and sort of shows the zealot nature of the Guardians and particularly Baldez in not realizing this...except...why haven't they realized this? If you kill Hikari and darkness overwhelms the Garden of Rainbows and ultimately the universe, wouldn't you be annihilated from existence without the light to balance out and give meaning to your existence? Do Baldez and the others even realize this...or is this whole thing just "of course not because when you're a zealot, you fail to see the consequences of your actions because you're too blinded by accomplishing said action". With that said, I find it ridiculous in a way that after how slow Darkness was to build all season, suddenly it just swells and grows nonstop while Hikari...finally gets the final Heartiel who just appears out of nowhere and returns to the Chairlect immediately...but the Cures are like "NO, WE CAN'T LET HIKARI SACRIFICE HERSELF BECAUSE SHE'S OUR BESTIE FOREVER!!!!!" Again: It's shocking that the mature and interesting storyline is with the Cure who has done literally nothing all season in her attempt to save Hikaru and her understanding of the balance and the idea that Light and Darkness can live together while all Nagisa and Honoka gets is "HIKARI, DON'T LEAVE US!" Oh and we get the nonsense of Pollun and Lulun magically flying into the Dark Zone to save Hikari and the Evil King "reviving"...yet still needing chains despite last season ending with it no longer needing it...or was that lost once it died in the final battle last season?

46 (2 until SS): There are two major things I have to talk about with this episode. The first is the less infuriating one: what exaclty were the Guardians in the end? While we sort of get a greater hint of who Baldez was in the finale, but the final "we'll return to the darkness" by Circulas and Viblis suggests that they and Uragaros are dark beings...just like the Dark Five...and the Dark Warriors...so...if the Evil King had the means to create these four all along, why didn't he in season 1? They didn't have the problems of his others and didn't develop a "we've changed and thus we deserve to be the ones in power" rebellious streak like the Dark Warriors; the only realization I have is they're maybe a failsafe and can only be created if the Evil King is destroyed in a way that sacrifices the Queen as well and thus they possess more power since they can possess more of the Evil King's power with the Evil King no longer around. That and maybe their stubbornness seems to suggest that this stubbornness isn't something the Evil King tends to advocate and thus why he wouldn't just create these four on a whim. (especially their annoying but ultimately successful attempt to destroy the Sparkle Braces...not really because of the stupid resurrection thing next time but at least they think so)

And then there's the other, more infuriating issue in the room: if Hikari needs to be "pure" to become the light of the Queen again and have no memories or connections to bind her down, why did Queen tell her in the opening episodes to have experiences and make friends and do things!? Doesn't that make Queen a hypocrite, telling Hikari, her own light, to do one thing but then have that one thing prevent another when it's finally time? I remember them mentioning at the beginning of the season that this sort of thing happened before...so then, how did it happen? Were there fairies around to turn the light into a Cure then? Who did this light embodiment bond with...or did she just sit around as Seekun found the other Heartiels magically and they just re-merged like it was nothing? This really continues to build the case that Queen is perhaps one of the worst mentor characters in the entire Cure franchise when she acts so contradictory to the embodiment of her own light!

47 (Max Heart finale; NEXT STOP: YUUNAGI!!!) Really all I can think of with Baldez's final move is "do you hope to be able to stand against...THIS IMMENSE CHIN!?!?!?"

When I first saw this final episode of the entire Futari era, it peeved me off to no end: it's really just a bunch of stuff happening one after another after another to one of the worst conclusions in franchise history. Now...it's still a bad finale even the second time around: the pointless flashback to Nagisa and Honoka's youth (and confirming that Nagisa literally tripped in a race in elementary school where she embarassed herself and still won regardless), the continued returns of the Sparkle Braces, the Queen being as useless as ever, no real resolution to the "light and darkness must exist together considering they nuke Baldez in the end, and the stupid fakeout "let's show Mepple and Mipple leave off screen only for them to return and somehow Hikari and Hikaru to be reborn in our world despite there being no means to explain it." (and really if the light is back inside the Queen and it's still Hikari and Hikari, then she shouldn't even be Shiny Luminous anymore...heck why do the fairies even need to be in our world anymore with the mission over other than the OOC All Star movies!?) It's pathetic when you have a graduation for Nagisa and Honoka's upperclassmen that feels more emotional and interesting than the actual graduation for Nagisa and Honoka!

There is one scene I do like though I admit: after Baldez fuses with the Evil King and becomes his final form, the Cures both end up at Sanae's tree and contemplate their regrets: Nagisa not finishing her final homework assingment and Honoka not being able to have soup for dinner with her granny and inviting Nagisa over. This is the sort of thing Futari should be remembered for...and its the sort of thing we never get from any other finale of any of the other Cure series. I think things get so caught up in the "Happily Ever Afters" of all the other Cures and the massive plots that have to end that they just forget that these characters are still more realistic, normal girls. Its sadly something they only push when they try to say how awesome they are but this one scene is really one of the few times where it works and they don't say it. There's no whiny "WE WANT TO BE NORMAL" nonsense or over-saccharine "we're besties foreva" nonsense; it's just Nagisa and Honoka talking and being themselves. That's the sort of thing Futari does best...and what felt lost through the massive mess of the endgame...and Max Heart in general. I suppose thanks to Hikari, we never get to see these two like this anymore. And unfortunately...with the way every other Cure team acts, we may never see it like this again. And it sort of brings a melancholic sadness...if only for a brief moment in this finale that's still...well, garbage.

PRETTY CURE REWATCH - FUTARI WA PRETTY CURE MAX HEART - MISSION COMPLETE!

Yeah, Hikari just being back for no adequately explained reason always felt like a bit of an asspull to me (especially when they made such a big deal over her sacrifice at the end).

And yes, I agree that the whole Nagisa/Fuji-P thing should have been put to rest back in the first season (or better yet just discarded entirely).

Evil Clones aside I don’t think we’ve ever gotten a Cure vs Cure fight quite as intense as the Black vs White match in the second movie (probably due to irate parents complaining to Toei following the film’s release). Flora vs Twilight in Go Princess sort of comes close though.

Overall Max Heart is not a good series in my opinion but it is at least a watchable one. Fortunately things more or less start to get better from here (for a little while at least).

Much quieter in Reefside, can say that.
Hmm, is Edward Payne's replacement loud or something? More clues on this murder mystery later.

And speaking of which, ego: here, Lelouch's is coming to the forefront, with him believing he has the right to judge who's worthy of living and who's not, by collateral damage or direct damage. He's willing to admit as much, believing it to be a necessary evil, but by showing it to Suzaku, it's bound to rile him up. And... is Suzaku really that different? Perhaps in means, perhaps in motivation, but is Suzaku going to make decisions that can be interpreted as power-hungry over life and death, and would Suzaku admit that to himself? How much does it matter if Suzaku would be more remorseful in an equivalent situation, when the results would still be fatal?

With that, Shirley. It's complicated, if she can forgive Lelouch and even want to back his cause, because surely he's doing something right even among all this wrong stuff. By taking the shot, she's becoming complicit, and heading down the path of moral quagmire that Lelouch and Suzaku ended up in. Lelouch erasing her memories of all that is his way of returning her to an innocent state: this might not be an ethical thing to do on several levels, but it's compassionate. Even if the results are questionable; it works in the short run, bu the fact is he hasn't kept her out of his life completely. It's still troubling for Lelouch, in letting the situation spiral out of control whether he knew or not, and it's not resolved.

Eh, if this was the last we saw any member of the Futari era with zero All Star movies or cameos, then it would be a cute ending, just something to throw at the girls for a job well done. It makes no sense but it would have been fine...stupid but fine for everything they've done. (especially with my own belief that when Hikari and Hikaru are reborn, they have no more light or darkness in them so Hikari shouldn't even be Shiny Luminous anymore...even if somehow she still has the power to do the Chibi-Usa "make people believe she's a cousin" nonsense)

Overall Max Heart is not a good series in my opinion but it is at least a watchable one. Fortunately things more or less start to get better from here (for a little while at least).
Watchable? What's watchable about Max Heart? Between dull fights, pathetic villains, repetitive attacks and the Hikari moments where she sucks (as opposed to the interesting stuff), I was going nuts the last four weeks rewatching this show.

Oh and as is, I'm not retiring the "counter"...but the moment I start hearing crap again it returns...best guess is once Flora and Boss show up because once I start hearing that garbage, I'm going to just bullet my way as fast to Clover Town as possible. (yes, Yes! 5 GoGo is still better than Max Heart...but it's got a lot of garbage itself)

Innocence may be fine but the way it was done still feels wrong. I mean, you erase literally everything in Shirley's mind just to fix her as opposed to at least the last little bit...is that even right?

Transformers: Super-God MasterForce - Ep. 25: Will the Bomber Project Be Destroyed!?

I suppose Slapdash is more than just a racing term when it comes to him and females.

As been hinted at for a while, there's a powerful force in space that is coming to Earth to assist the Decepticons with their battle this time around; and in this episode that being, BlackZarak, has finally approached the moon with the Earth it's main target. (seriously, it's basiacally another Scorponok...why do we need another Scorponok when the idiot left his Transtector on Earth at the end of last season and they could have modified that!?) As Overlord go to meet with this destroyer, time is drawing shorter for the Autobots to finish the Godbomber and make sure that Ginrai is able to use it after the disaster last time with the first battle with Overlord, especially with the Super Ginrai trailer damaged. But of course considering the Decepticons end up finding out about the Godbomber project, things become even messier and they decide to attack the factory where it's being worked on in order to prevent it's completion. Really this episode is mostly about the forces outside Ginrai, mainly the Headmaster Jrs. and other Godmasters, protecting the materials for the Godbomber as the Autobot Pretenders try to move everything to make sure that they're able to finish the project with how close they are to completion. I do like the focus on everyone else and how it feels like Getaway is almost a second in the forces at this point...I'd say he could even be leader except obviously with Ginrai, they aren't going to be able to do that sadly. It all does work out in the end and the Godbomber is moved to a new location...but seriously, all this is just for fighting another Scorponok?

Jikuu Senshi Spielban: Ep. 25: The Newly Made Emperor's New Mechanoid Presses Near the End

I'm with Guillotine: toku plots get really absurd at times.

With the arrival of Emperor Guillotine from the 23rd century, Pandora has surprisingly decided to make him the new commander of the Waller forces knowing that he possesses the power and intellect to lead them to victory. And amazingly his first tactic...doesn't seem to be too smart at first: it's basically just upgrading the force Waller already has, creating "New Battle Mechanoids" to replace the older models without any real sign of what he's willing to update with them to make them tougher (not even "we're using 23rd century tech" as a throwaway line or anything). But he also seems to have two other things of interest: first is the resurrection of Helen now that she's fully healed despite Doctor Bio being against that in fear of what they could do to her now; and the other is manipulating two of the three girl spies, Shadow and Gasher, to train with daggers to pierce Spielban's crystal suit as a means to eliminate him. The latter seems to be what could be an interesting plot point with the idea of him trying to use the two spies for his own advantage and maybe give them a promotion; but it's all actually just about reading some information about Spielban and when he's at his weakest. The Battle Robot goes down as usual and he sends out the spies at the end due to Spielban basically running out of energy using his Arc Impulse...but really the daggers weren't to strengthen them but were just elements of a suicide attack that blow them up when Spielban attacks them, revealing the duo as mere Bio Robots. Admittedly...losing Shadow and Gasher isn't any loss to the show (I'm sick of spy girls anyway and at least we still have Riki so we don't have to go down Sun Vulcan/Shaider obsession anymore with them) but it does have Guillotine confirm his information...but my question is what the heck is he going to do with said information now that he has it?

Shuriken Sentai Ninninger: Shinobi 25: It's Summer! Beware of Dracula

I think Dracula's a Luka Megurine fan. (not everyone wants Miku)

I'm not sure why we need another Fuuka-focused episode considering that we just had one last time (though it was more about daddy trying to impress Fuuka), but here we have one that sort of gets back to a previous plot point: that she has no direction in life and is looking for it while just doing her ninja mission in the meantime. In this episode, she ends up being recruited by a talent scout who sees her as a potential actress for a new Dracula movie being directed...and of course with the Western Yokai running amuck, everyone realizes immediately "Hey, maybe if Frankenstein was here, Dracula may be nearby as well!" Thus we get a bizarre ninja infiltration (complete with Yakumo and Nagi in drag...so then really Yakumo pilots a "drag-on") all while the main actor, who basically is a red herring for being Dracula, thinks of course that Fuuka is the right girl for the movie sort of surprising her with what she may be potentially able to accomplish. The whole thing does make Fuuka happy as she confesses to her brother and Kinji (when everyone else is knocked out due to Dracula's ability to...suck energy...really, Toei, do you have to modernize Dracula to the point he's Morbius from the 90s Spider-Man animated series?) she is interested in this and sort of thinks this could be her path and wants to be open to it if this is what she ends up doing after the mission is done. But of course by the end, Fuuka's about as indecisive as ever; she's still a high schooler so obviously she isn't going to just decide her life story here and now at this point in her life. Oh...and obviously with the actor as a red herring, Dracula was his producer and somehow he's broken due to Fuuka having a taste for garlic...so this Dracula thinks he could be Edward from Twilight in surviving sunlight, yet garlic's still a hazard I suppose.

Shuriken Sentai Ninninger The Movie: The Dinosaur Lord's Splendid Ninja Scroll!

What was with all the tanuki statues in this movie: is Toei determined to make them the late Heisei Moai statues?

Sentai movies are rather problematic in this day and age due to the little time that they get considering they're just the flashy pre-show for the Kamen Rider movie; yet some of them can still do something neat that is totally worth our time like last season's little movie explaining more about the power of Imagination and the Galaxy Line connecting it with ToQger's lore. This one...sadly is one that's more about flash than anything substantial, more or less just being a bigger budget Ninninger episode that tries to prove that dinosaurs can sell anything, even in a ninja show. The movie somehow involves the Ninninger being hired (well...more forced by grandpa) to watch over a lord of a shinobi village (and unfortunately it's the more traditional style of walled city with everyone wanting to be Naruto style of village; I'd complain there aren't any modern style ninjas but we got those in older pre-ninja Sentai like Battle Fever and Zyuranger surprisingly) to prevent a previously unknown Kibaoni warrior named Juza Yumihari from gaining the power that he possesses: the power of the great "wicked dragon". Unfortunately, the lord, Tatsunosuke Hakkaku, is now a dinosaur...they claim it has to do with anxiety but they also mention he's been having a hard time losing his wife and the trust of his villagers that he just ends up turning into a random costumed dinosaur as a reaction from the power within himself. Really the whole ordeal is just a means by Takaharu to bond with Tatsunosuke and get him to be a strong leader once again while the other Ninninger try to resecure the village in his absence...and that's basically the movie: the team save the village, Takaharu remotivates the lord and the team gain a new OtomoNin in in the process after it briefly works for Juuza as it reveals its true form as...well, a dinosaur OtomoNin with a huge horn. (but cut it off and...yep, it's just a dinosaur with a metal nose and a drill tail like...other dinosaur mecha) Considering the last few have actually done some really good or interesting things despite the short running times of these movies, this is probably the first "meh, not much happens" movie in the franchise in a long time, since...um...surprisingly every movie since the revival of these in Gaoranger have had something interesting going on but this one is just so random that the last really dissapointing one is probably earlier than this one. (and even the Showa and early Heisei ones did something cool, this one is just bound by cliches and is boring and random)

Eh, there’s a handful of decent episodes here and there, Honoka gets an arc of sorts even if it’s mostly in the background and the basic premise is sort of interesting on paper even though it fails in execution (much like Happiness Charge In that regard).

It’s not something I’d go out of my way to watch again (in fact I’ve only seen it once) but I don’t remember completely hating it the first time I saw it either. Though that might have something to do with me still having a bit of a soft spot for Nagisa and Honoka despite the former’s many faults (she’s basically the same person at the end of Max Heart that she was at the start of Futari yet for some reason the show insists on focusing on her constantly).

It’s still one of my least favorite seasons though (maybe even worse than Happiness Charge in some aspects) and a lot of its plot threads would be done much better in later shows, but every season has its good points in my opinion.

GoGo has many faults but it at least it tries to continue the character threads the previous season started (such as seeing Nozomi actually take steps towards her goal of becoming a teacher) and nobody really flat out regresses like Nagisa did here. This alone makes it the better sequel of the two.

As for the Luminous issue technically there are Cures that shouldn’t even be in our dimension anymore following their respective shows (though at least there you can handwave it away by saying they came back to visit or something).

I believe Smile does something similar with Candy just popping up again at the end with no real explanation (though weirdly enough, New Stage 2 actually bothers to fill in some of the gaps regarding that).

The fact that it feels wrong is how we know it's true to Lelouch's style. From his perspective, he had only one shot at the Geass, and had to correct it as quickly as possible with no risk. Yes, it's unsettling. But yes, it also fixes some problems. For now.

Fuuka being directionless sort of makes sense. Her older cousins Kasumi and Yakumo have had time to explore their interests and carve out a path (and Yakumo even went to a magic school, not that it was easy). But her influence is her older brother... not that that gives much direction.

And the movie? Essentially an admission that they just wanted an action sequence, and for whatever reason they think they need a dinosaur. It sure told its story, however minor that story may be. Plus for whatever reason, The Tommy thinks this whole thing is about him, when it actually managed to get adapted.

Black Zarak isn't another Scorponok, he's the same guy from Headmasters. He put himself in a new more powerful Trantector.

If there's one thing that literally no other Cure season got right from Splash Star to even what I hear about Star Twinkle...it's just the Nagisa/Honoka relationship. Seriously, the best moment in the final episode is just the two basically at wits end facing down a fully empowered Baldez with the Evil King's power...and they're just talking about Nagisa screwing up her graduation homework and Honoka wanting to eat granny's soup; in the same way as the "chocolate sale conversation" during the Dark Witch fight in the movie. The dynamic is just one of the if not the best of any Cure team ever, probably because it just feels way more realistic "in a sense" and isn't just bound by a plot or story what's going on on screen. Other seasons have done plots better or powers better or other things better...but Nagisa and Honoka are Pretty Cure and are the gold standard for every team after them to this day. (and honestly I wish I could say Hikari could just go away and no one would miss her...but sadly whenever there's a crossover they have to drag her along...meh...)

I guess that's another problem with Max Heart I suppose: we don't get enough Nagisa and Honoka being themselves amidst it all since they're always running around dealing with the Hikari plot, the Guardians, or everything else going on around them in their lives. They can't just be themselves and hang out and show that dynamic out outside moments like the two I mentioned.

And the movie? Essentially an admission that they just wanted an action sequence, and for whatever reason they think they need a dinosaur. It sure told its story, however minor that story may be. Plus for whatever reason, The Tommy thinks this whole thing is about him, when it actually managed to get adapted.
Seriously, the anniversary special used movie footage? Why?

Yeah, read up on that on the Wiki. I don't get it...but they keep giving Megatron/Galvatron/Unicorn new bodies so...

Transformers: Super-God MasterForce - Ep. 26: God Ginrai - Into the Sky!!

How in the world did Hawk even catch a cold?

The last few episodes have basically been a race against time to try and finish the Godbomber for the sake of being able to create God Ginrai and thus be able to fight against the mysterious new threat of Black Zarak approaching the planet. It isn't helped that we have Overlord on the moon causing chaos while preparing to meet up with the powerful warrior; and Ginrai himself still has some anxiety in regards to facing Overlord again after being crushed by it in a previous battle, something he actually has to work through with the help of the Headmaster Jrs. Despite humanity's attempt to hold off Giga and Mega, it of course does ultimately come up to the completion of the Godbomber and thus the activation of God Ginrai to finally fly off and defeat Overlord before the meeting could occur; there surprisingly isn't too much to say about it's transformation in that it's just taking Super Ginrai and adding an extra plate of armor to it to create this new form, despite it's greater capabilities and the ability to fly into space. But while God Ginrai is able to show off it's power immediately, it unfortunately isn't enough to stop BlackZarak from arriving and the two to team up together and crush the new formation. It's this sort of thing that makes me wonder why they have to place all their hope on one Godmaster instead of just having all of them fighting together or at least more support from the Autobots to help Ginrai out...but considering they keep hyping God Ginrai as the only hero they need, I do wonder if that's more just terrible planning on the side of the Autobots in not having something to work with/alongside their new hero in this sort of situation.

Jikuu Senshi Spielban: Ep. 26: The Second Helen Tears Off Her Loving Heart

OK so the good Helen can turn into a monster and the bad Helen has a machine gun...got it?

The manipulations of Emperor Guillotine sometimes seem a bit strange compared to what the Waller forces have done up to now; but at the same time these schemes are actually working to the advantage of the Waller in figuring out how to break Spielban and thus make it more hopeless that he'll be able to get through this mission. His main focus at first this time seems to be wanting to force Helen back onto his side for the Waller to use Hellvira, but obviously Helen really wants nothing more to do with this and there's also the issue of Doctor Bio still not wanting his daughter used in that sort of way. Not able to use the real Helen, Guillotine starts making a fake one; an android made with skin that can't be detected by Spielban's Search Analyzer so that they're able to make it seem like it's the real Helen and thus break Spielban and Diana's trust in her and thus break their feelings that they're going to succeed. It's a rather nefarious plan, particularly with this evil Helen luring in both warriors and even hurting Diana while shooting at Spielban before she reveals herself as another of the New Mechanoids created by Guillotine's own hands. Yet even when that's dealt with, the emperor even tries to use another Diana robot to make Spielban think that she's on his side, which he attacks and reveals once again as an android. In a way, this reduction of trust even in his own sister is something that is going to possibly hurt them in the end, which is obviously what Pandora wants so to break Spielban and ultimately cause the worst sort of tragedy. I just sort of wonder why it took the Waller this long to really start screwing with Spielban in a way to lead to worse tragic consequences compared to the nonsense they were doing up to now when it didn't involve Hellvira.

Shuriken Sentai Ninninger: Shinobi 26: It's Summer! Last Ninja Race Intermediate Announcement!

Nagi, did you literally have to count all the "easy"s!?

We're halfway through Ninninger and we know that the Rangers are all in the same race to become the next Last Ninja...so it's time for a recap episode to figure it out. The purpose behind it is simple: grandpa Yoshitaka has decided to hold a bit of a variety show format to see where the ninjas stand and who is closest to becoming Last Ninja with everything they've done up to now. The reasons are rather random as to why certain ninjas are at certain ranks amidst all this so you know something is up before the Yoshitaka wannabe starts "nya"-ing forcing Kasumi to reveal...another Nekomata amidst them (or is it "Mataneko"?) You knew something was up considering how low Kasumi was and Fuuka being in the lead due to personal preference but otherwise the episode is basically just a bizarre means for a recap episode...then again for Ninninger, it's probably about standard.

The only note to keep track of is actually that grandpa speaks to Kinji not just at how far he hasn't come...but that there's one Western Yokai left...the one that killed his father and brother: the Wolf Man.

We all wondered the same thing when it aired.

I was hoping for some answers about the murder of Edward Payne, but for some reason it kept getting back to The Tommy.

It did inspire me to do the whole Rickroll Count thing, and guess what, Ninninger had more of this here (at the halfway point, furthermore) than Gaoranger had of that there. Which means, yes, Gaoranger started a trend, for better or for worse, and it only amplified upon recent shows.

And the cat came back, the very next day...

Well, it is kind of a creative way to make a recurring grudge from some monster subgroup.

Saki and Mai (as well as Hibiki/Kanade and Emiru/Lulu) sort of come close but yeah, no other Precure team has ever really been able to match the dynamic between Nagisa and Honoka. Even Hikari was never really integrated that well and at times feels more like a third wheel than an actual member of the team.

To be fair though , Hikari doesn’t really have that big a presence in most of the crossovers (aside from DX3 where they actually bothered to give her a personality). Hell, Futari’s next big appearance was in Hugtto and she’s barely in it (not appearing at all in the in-series crossover and only showing up at the very beginning and towards the end of the movie, the rest of it mostly just being Nagisa and Honoka interacting with the Hugtto girls), which was for the best honestly.

Like you’ve said, Max Heart (and by extension Hikari) had the potential to be something really good but they just dropped the ball on it (again, why revive that stupid Fuji-P plot when you had no intention of actually going somewhere with it), wouldn’t be the first time this franchise did something like that either.

It's ridiculous we get more "Easy" than "Neba Giba" sadly.

My thing is that those other partnerships aren't quite the same as Nagisa/Honoka which makes the two just unique. Saki and Mai are just the ultimate friends; Hibiki/Kanade are the ultimate...well...friends who should be friends but aren't. (in other words: what if Kallen and Shirley were suddenly sent to a magical girl world and must work together...and there's music, cupcakes, talking cats and other weirdness) But the Nagisa/Honoka one just...snaps, I should say. I do like a few other duos as well (mainly weird couples that somehow work well like Rin/Karen...or the one-two times we got Miki/Setsuna) Oh and this isn't counting stuff like Mirai/Riko or Mana/Rikka...

Transformers: Super-God MasterForce - Ep. 27: God Ginrai - Showdown on the Surface of the Moon

At this point I may as well admit that Landmine is basically the Bender of Transformers.

Ginrai may have gained the power to become God Ginrai due to the completion of the Godbomber, but being God Ginrai really doesn't mean much if you have to deal with the mess he has, particularly dealing with the team of Overlord and BlackZarak who have rendezvous and are ready to head for the Earth in order to bring about...um...another Decepticon invasion for their leader. (wait, WEREN'T ALL THOSE DECEPTICONS ALREADY ON EARTH!? WHY DID THEY LEAVE JUST TO RETURN!?!?!?) Really most of the episode is what the title suggests: a lunar showdown between Ginrai and BlackZarak and Overlord, joined later by Grand Maximus who set this all up and wanted to make sure that the Decepticon mission was stopped. The whole thing is basically your typical "this is the power of humanity and what we're fighting for" battle and it's decent but I guess it's tough for me to take seriously since BlackZarak just feels like a super-strong opponent and not a leader or anything of significance, especially since we have Devil Z and Overlord around...let alone the fact that other material basically suggests BlackZarak is just Scorponok in a new Transtector yet brainwashed! It's like this world wants to make high stakes but it's hard to have high stakes when the stakes sometimes don't really seem like they're worth our time or effort, even if of course Ginrai barely squeaks out a victory this time regardless.

Jikuu Senshi Spielban: Ep. 27: The Poison Fang Which Tries to Suck the Blood of the Beautiful Runaway

So "blue blood" really is an element of prestige...that or just alien biology is weird.

Considering the focus of the Waller remains on Earth, it isn't surprising that sometimes they still want to attack other aliens throughout the universe for things they want. This episode actually begins with Rikki leading an attack against two fugitive aliens from a planet called Porceus, this race seems rather innocent but they are prized throughout the universe due to having blood that makes them eternally youthful; in fact the male ends up getting captured and a pint of his blood is given to Waller, stating to rejuvinate him to the point that if he kept feeding off it, he wouldn't even need water to survive and the Waller could invade planets throughout the universe not limited by their aquatic need! In a weird bit of strategy that works due to Guillotine suggesting it, they soon let the male go to reunite with the female with Spielban, thus they could get two for one and create children that would forever keep providing said blood. Obviously Spielban has to intervene to stop it, but there's a weird catch as well: the two were headed to a world which would turn said blood red, which would take away this longevity ability if they reach it...it's a bizarre conclusion and it sort of makes things all the weirder but the whole episode is weird anyway despite the interesting concepts it does bring up. Obviously the Waller are a threat to Earth but considering their options of making their forces all the worse on a universal scale, maybe keeping them on Earth until their demise is a wise thing.

Shuriken Sentai Ninninger: Shinobi 27: It's Summer! Chozetsu Star is Born!

Seriously, was Kinji just wearing that ninja outfit under there all this time?

The reason that Kinji decided to become a ninja is that his obsession with taking down Yokai brought him to the source of dealing with the Yokai management in the first place. But of course as we found out with a few recent episodes, several Yokai are considered "Western" and one of them is the one that Kinji's been going after all this time: The Wolf Man, the one who killed his father and brother. This need for revenge has brought forth darkness within Kinji that he is exhibiting moreso than usual, a darkness that even Yoshitaka has warned could pushed him down a dark path if he pursues it. Unfortunately for him, the same dark path is one pursued by Kyuemon, and thus Kinji seeks the Kibaoni page and tries to gain dark power as a means to get his revenge on the Wolf Man, revenge being the only thing on his mind at this time. In a way regarding Sentai homages, Kinji at first seems like one of the protagonists of Liveman, brought down by the death of those he cares about and wanting to take revenge to get back at the one who did so. (well OK, there's also the Fiveman element in that it was his father and brother killed...heck that was a major factor in the first four Sentai from Gorenger to Denziman as well...but Liveman is probably the one that pushed it out the most notably and which this episode probably draws it's greatest element from.) In fact, Liveman is probably the best comparison with this episode due to one of the better episodes as opposed to...the stupid ones Liveman are known for: when pushed to the brink of taking dark power for the sake of revenge, Kinji finally realizes that revenge isn't worth it and that this isn't about personal vendetta anymore but in helping his teammates and saving the world from the Yokai in general. And hey, considering that we know he can use Chouzetsu from a previous episode, he borrows it from Takaharu for once and uses it to slay his opponent with a new determination.

Unfortunately, there are two little problems that occur due to this incident. Firstly: when Ariake no Kata finally grows tired of just Yokai in general with the failure of the Western Yokai, Kyuemon decides he wants to take a turn...since when has this show turned into Gingaman? And speaking of Sentai homages, it seems during this battle with the Wolf Man that Kinji himself got slashed by the lupine and some of his excitement may not be normal...maybe Kinji needs to talk to Tsukumaro Oogami about this sort of thing...or Gou Fukami...
