Penny Dreadful

anyone else watching?
Some of literature's most terrifying characters, including Dr. Frankenstein, Dorian Gray, and iconic figures from the novel Dracula are lurking in the darkest corners of Victorian London. PENNY DREADFUL is a frightening psychological thriller that weaves together these classic horror origin stories into a new adult drama.
Sir Malcolm Murray's daughter is missing they hire an american hotshot to help them find her & along the way they meet & run into some literature's biggest & scariest characters

my cast list
Timothy Dalton- Sir Malcolm Murray: An African Explorer
Eva Green- Miss Vanessa Ives: not real sure at this point
Danny Spanai- Sembene: Malcolm's "man" (butler, driver, bodyguard, etc)
Josh Harnett- Ethan Chandler: said american hotshot
harry treadaway Victor Frankenstein: a "doctor" who gets roped into the search with his own set of problems
Rory Kinnear- Frankenstein's Monster
Olivia Llewellyn- Mina Harker: Malcolm's daughter
Reeve Carney- Dorian Gray
Billie Piper- Brona Croft- A woman with TB that ethan takes a liking too
three episodes in so far & i'm liking it not for kids though
airs on showtime &
am i the only one getting a League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen vibe?

loved & hated the proteus & "caliban" scene at the same tim & is really the biggest scene so far but i'm wondering when they're gonna drop the "D" bomb or even the "v" bomb for that matter but the Egyptian twist i like

& does anyone know what ethan noticed in the first episode when he was at the crime scene? only thing that comes to my mind is that he figured out the woman is a "creature"

I don't have Showtime, so I'll be waiting for the DVDs.

In the meantime, can I ask what if anything sets it apart from all of the other monster hunter TV shows?

with three episodes in they're still "world building" if you will
so other than the Victorian setting & the freedom that showtime gives them
it's hard to really say what sets them apart. except so far they have some really cool twists with the characters

you'll just have to watch & see for yourself

just wanted to say is that i don't have showtime either i'm doing torrents

Too bad they canceled Dracula. I kind of liked that show.

Yeah, I fell out of love with that world. There's only so many shows I'm willing to get caught stealing.

episode 4 aired
i was not a fan of the ending but i saw it coming a mile away
i hope it doesn't become a big part of the show or i'm done

i also think miss croft is gonna get caught up in the supernatural side of the show either as a vamp or as calibon's bride

can't wait for episode 5 where we learn vanessa's story

I've watched the first 2 episodes of the show. I like the vibe of it and the twist of the characters that I've seen so far. Also it's always good to see Timothy Dalton.

I think it's safe to say that whenever Dorian is alone with someone, he's gonna try to bed them, whether male, female, or what have you.

Its as if someone took Alan Moore's intensity and quality he put into the original League of Extraordinary Gentlemen book and concept and then took out all the weird woman hating vibes Moore's writing has then just mixed in a big bag of Showtime approved sex, and then threw insanely good acting on top of it, with a side of the most Victorian thing imaginable.

And that's before you even get to the overarching story of hunting a monster, which doesn't actually play out as you expect it to and takes time. It's not the hunt, it's how they go about it with their limited means and what the characters do in their off time while they wait for things they've done to play out.

Oh, and there's this dude who is just standing around, doing manservant stuff, but somehow it makes him the most intriguing character of all time and you just want to know what is going on with him.
