Hawaii Five-0

No, not Hawaii Five-O, Hawaii Five-0. Ha.

Aired yesterday on CBS, anyone check it out?

I never really saw the original, but I will say I kinda liked how they kept the original theme pretty much intact.

Now for the show, the Pilot definitely has me wanting to tune in next week. It almost seemed a little rushed, but I think it was able to pull it off. Characters seem pretty alright, as well; I like the actors. Overall, probably one of the better 'new' fall shows thus far.

I think by remaking a show that stood on its own for so long (12 seasons) and is still known by people who've never even watched an episode of the original, it gives them a reason to make another cop show without it being overlooked as just another cop show. People who might not have given it a second look are now checking it out because they remember the original or because they've heard of the original and are interested to see what its all about without having to watch footage from the 70s/80s.

I'm not too big a fan of remakes but the commercial did look interesting (I've got episode 1 waiting for me at lunch).

Drew Berrymore has been working on a new Charlies Angels show.

As for Hawaii Five-0, I really enjoyed it. It is another crime show, but it looks different from the other ones out there in a lot of ways. I think the show has a chance.

Yeah right. Anyway, I missed out on a lot of television series this week including this so I may just wait until the end of the year and get the dvd.

The pilot was definitely rushed. But it was between ok and good. And it is different from the other cop shows because it is more action driven then forensics or interrogation. I mean surely they are going to be looking at a crime scene and doing the whole "good cop, bad cop" (even though the leader isn't technically a cop...) but they are more driven through the whole chase and gun fight aspect and to be honest we don't have a lot of cop shows like that.

So they have William Sadler, Norman Reedus, and James Marsters as guest actors and two out of three of them are killed in the first 5 minutes. O_O What the hell show?

Other than that, I liked it enough to tune in again.

The dynamic between the O'Loughlin and Cann was good. I think this would have been a good updated version of Miami Vice too like the Miami Vice movie.

In fact the premiere felt like a mini movie.

Lot of unanswered questions like who was the mole that tipped off that Kono was a cop

I see alot of comments about Grace Park being super skinny. I'd say she's skinny strong.

Nice of CBS to go with the second version of the theme instead of the more updated one they showed a few months back

I'll probably have more thoughts as the episode soaks in.

BTW ratings were good. The pilot got 13 to 14 million viewers

McGarrett said for the coast guard to search the waters for Hesse's body. Then the matter was dropped

You don't just kill a character played by Marsters and not expect him to be back.

I would of liked it more if it where a sequel instead to the tv series like they did with Knight Rider different characters but same name.

I enjoyed it. I can't say much, other than it's something to come back to, since I was online at the time as well (a mistake I won't make again).

Hoping that the next remake will be Magnum PI...

I wasn't a fan of the original, though I had seen quite a few episodes and "got" it. I must say I like the update, but I doubt the oldskool fans will embrace it.

The pilot was rushed, very fast paced and didn't really get a chance flesh everything out. The pilot definitely should've been two hours and had a bit more depth to the story.

The ending, especially, shows how rushed it was. Even with the time issue, I still found it to be very entertaining and had excellent action sequences.

I have to give the show runners credit...they kept the original theme intact, replicated the opening credits with nice updates, and even had O'Laughlin do Jack Lord's over the shoulder, into the camera stare.

I think that with a bit more depth, the show could be a tremendous hit. But, it further proves to me that Orci and Kurtzman are hackish. They sure do like to write a blurb, add a bit of dialogue to it, and call it a story. That's not really how it works.

They did it to TransFormers, they did it to Star Trek, and they're doing it here. They need to take some Ritalyn and calm down. People DO want more than 10 seconds of story, and they DO have an attention span bigger than a gnat.

I just watched it on the website, and agree that it felt really rushed. Hopefully it's just because they needed to establish everything and isn't an indicator of what's to come. It was fun, but I'm glad I didn't stay up to watch it.

That theme song... Wow. Did it even fit in the original show? LOL

For those that haven't heard it, here is the original theme CBS wanted to go with. It was more modern sounding.

Now here's the one we heard last night

Still short for commercial reasons but MUCH better and closer to the original

The band version is SO MUCH BETTER then the rock version. (I like me some guitar, but with an already genius score like the OP of Hawaii 5-0, you can't go away from a full band!!)

The version of the theme they used is SO much better. Also, many of the visual snippets used in the opening are exactly the same as the only used in the 1960's. Some are:

* The jumbo wave
* Zooming to the McGarrett actor standing on a high-rise balcony
* The close up of the jet engine
* The flame-spinning native dancer
* The zoom in to the Kameamea (sp?) statue
* The close up on the hula dancer's ... ummm ... hips
* The ending shot of a cruiser, with lights on, going down the highway

But I liked the reset for the most part. If this show doesn't hit for O'Laughlin (and CBS can't be faulted for trying to get this guy a steady gig), then nothing will.
