Looking back on commercials, console reveals have been more about the open market ever since the 2000s.

And I'll wait for the eventual downsizing of this. It'll make me worried to lose a piece of hardware walking around; it'll be the new console schtick like Wii's tv-destroying remotes.

Unless I'm miss interpreting this, it sounds like what we saw, is just a preview trailer. A different trailer will be revealed tonight.

That's just what it looks like to me.

Did you lose a Gameboy? Did you lose a Ds/3DS?
Do you lose your games?

This lost parts thing has NEVER made any sense!

I think that's just badly worded.

Hey man. Don't you go dissing Colosseum.

...but otherwise, yeah, now they actually can make the core Pokémon games with the visuals and power of a console now. Or rather, they have no excuse not to.
I can diss the first one.

IT SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Those were built complete, with the removable part being the game only. Yes, I lost my DS's stylus but that's easily replaceable. I can't say the same for what I've seen of Switch and will have to wait for the masses' answer when released. I know I would break that stand; I have similar ones on several smartphone's case

Do they? I know there's the issue of not getting the same ports, but they tend to go quality over quantity.

This was something I was trying to explain to a friend today. We were talking consoles just a few minutes before the reveal. He just wasn't grasping that I don't have an unlimited supply of time to play games anymore. I have 20-ish WiiU games. I haven't finished half of them and I've would still easily say I've gotten way more fun out of it than I did my Xbox 360 with 60ish games.

I don't need a game console to get every multi-platform release. I just need it to get enough great, high quality games that I feel like I got my moneys worth from the initial console purchase.

That is an opinion you are sharing. One that is not felt by every single person.

And that does not necessitate all Caps Lock.

I just hope it's not something like 500 dollars or something. Considering the prices for the 3DS here, I'm afraid I might not be able to buy this one. I have my car to pay as well.

I was impressed by the Switch. With NVIDIA doing the insides of this thing, it isn't going to lack the power or graphics to run these kinds of games. I am a mobile gamer and so I like to be able to play in the car (I don't drive), on a walk or while at my sisters house. Being able to play games like Mario Kart on the run is nice.

I would hardly call the Switch a gimmick by being a two in one console. It is no different than those tablets that can also be a laptop. This is what the Wii U should have been.

Price wise, Nintendo is going to take a loss on the Switch itself. Unlike Sony or Microsoft, Nintendo isn't going to price gouge the consumer. With the third party support that the Switch is getting, the loss should be minimal though. One thing Nintendo has going for it is that I seriously doubt they are going to charge for online. Nintendo has made it clear where they stand on these things.

Nintendo's games have been about quality over quantity as someone mentioned. They don't churn out a new game every month like others do.

Unless it's been changed *easily possibleI* I only see AM. I think the trailer we got was the entire Preview.

Now... If nintendo was smart *and lets be honest.. hey usually arn't with marketing* They would be releasing trickles of information about the system almost every month all the way to release.

They almost kind of do.
Considering they have been split between the
NES/GB/SNES/GBC/N64
GBA/GameCube
DS/Wii
3DS/WiiU

Now everything will be all on one system.
We won't be seeing a game drought, which is amazing.

It will be nice but I just hope quality doesn't suffer. Their console's have been duds in the sales but you can't say that about their games.

WiiU isn't a dud, it's just not selling as well as it could have. But developers were too lazy to port games properly.

I own a Wii U and love it. Probably have bought more games for it than the 2DS.

I love my Wii U. I play it often, usually Splatoon. I look forward to the Switch, but I remember being EXTREMELY upset when the big N dropped multiplayer support for the Wii before Mario Kart 8 even came out. I hope come March I'm still able to play Splatoon on my Wii U.

I'd say being in touch is having a console that people actually want to buy. Having a balance of having a system that can appeal to casual gamers with stuff they and hardcore gamers. Which I think that is something Nintendo has lost for years. They went too far in one direction with the Wii and then the Wii U wasn't able to compete with its lack of 3rd party support and a gimmick most people didn't want. As long as they can learn from the mistakes, they should be fine.
You're making it sound like they're struggling in comparison but I think they've been fine the entire time, honestly. Even if the Wii U sold less than they wanted, they were still doing well. I don't really think they had any major mistakes, the gimmick of the Wii U was just the double screen of the handheld. Maybe the mistake was not really doing enough new then.

There's also the eternal issue of "What is a hardcore gamer in the first place" to consider when talking about Casual vs Hardcore as a mistake.

It makes me feel horribly old when I turn down a game just because I don't want to put the hours in to finish it, but also incredibly picky because so many new games just don't feel worth the time suck anymore. Especially yearly sequels, those I avoid like the plague.

That's the thing with Nintendo. You can fight over which to get between Xbox and Playstation, but you know it'll be worth it to get the Nintendo console even if its just for a handful of Nintendo titles.

I was going to say Wiimotes.
Hey, yeah. I hope motion control isn't totally gone. Motion control Skyrim could be amazing.
