Turns out the reason BB8 stayed with the Resistance and Rey left to find Luke with R2 was a request of Rian Johnson

I'm watching ANH on TBS, and something crossed my mind. How does Luke know the slaughtered Jawas are the same ones that sold them the droids? Are there markings on the sandcrawlers that differentiate them? All Jawas look alike, to me. The ones that took artoo lool like the one that approached Luke's landspeeder in Mos Eisley, the ones in Jabba's palace, and the ones Anakin talked to while looking for Shmi.

It's really a small thing. he probably just he recognized their sandcrawlers, and/or they are the only ones near Luke and Ben's homes.

Hey, if Han Solo can recognize Threepio with a red arm, I'll believe anything.

So... I watched Star Wars for the first time for real yesterday. (And by for real, I mean I've seen bits and pieces of it before but not the whole thing)

Long story short, It was good. I enjoyed it. I can see why it's super popular. I liked all the characters, and the acting was really good throughout. I'm surprised it took me this long to end up watching it. Hopefully I'll end up seeing the rest of the movies soon.

Glad you enjoyed it. For the record, the next one in line, The Empire Strikes Back, is widely considered to be the best of the entire series.

Ah, thanks. I'll be looking forward to that. I think it's on tonight, so I'll probably check it out.

Awesome, it's always cool reading or hearing about newcomer experiences when it comes to this franchise. There's just something charming about these.

How will you watch the movies, out of curiosity? Fandom has taken it upon itself to devise certain orders in watching the movies.

I think I'm gonna watch The Empire Strikes Back tonight, and then Return of the Jedi tomorrow, since that's the order they're on TV. But I don't know what order to watch the other three in, but I know I'll be watching The Force Awakens last. Is there a particular order to watch them? Or do I just do it in order of the release date?

The two common ways to watch them are in:

A. Release Order: A New Hope-The Empire Strikes Back-Return of the Jedi-The Phantom Menace-Attack of the Clones-Revenge of the Sith-The Force Awakens-Rogue One

B. Chronological Order: The Phantom Menace-Attack of the Clones-Revenge of the Sith-Rogue One-A New Hope-The Empire Strikes Back-Return of the Jedi-The Force Awakens.

Fandom also has their own, oddball orders, but for a first-timer I just recommend going simple and watching them in release order. Chronological order, along with the fandom orders, are recommended for rewatching instead of being introduced to Star Wars for the first time.

Alright, thanks. As you can tell, I'm a newbie to this whole thing, so I appreciate the tip.

You always watch release order first. Never chronological first.

No.

The official Lucasfilm position, both pre-sale and post-sale, is that the movies should be viewed Chronologically. Period.

Anything else is just being contrary.

Yeah, I really don't give a shit what the Lucasfilm stance is.

And being contrary, coming from you... Hilarious.

Why should Lucasfilm's preferred order dictate how we watch it?

Because no other "order" gives you the fullest experience in bringing the story to life. If it was possible to fully experience Star Wars however you wanted, the company responsible for making it wouldn't have taken an official position on how to experience it.

And why would their way absolutely have to be the best? Because they own the rights? Because they say so? That doesn't qualify them to make aesthetic judgments for the rest of us.

Watching it in chronological order kind of kills some of the drama of the OT. And honestly, I'm not sure if someone would make it through II and III and decide to keep going. You've got to realize that a lot of what makes the Prequels enjoyable (to the extent that they're enjoyable) is the context of already having the Original Trilogy. Without OT-tinted glasses, the characters and events of the Prequels would seem pretty weird and boring, especially with how unlikeable some of the main characters are.

Well, there's four options: Release order, chronological order, Ernst Rister order (IV-V, I-Rogue One and VI-VII) or Machete order (IV-V, II-Rogue One and VI-VII).

I'm glad I didn't watch it in chronological order, given the fact that the prequel trilogy are divisive.

Digific, you have no say on what order should fans watch Star Wars.
