I really don't think this looks as bad as people are suspecting. It looks far more vibrant than the dull Beauty and the beast and the songs are as close to the originals as they could be in a Will Smith style.
He seems to be in 90's form (I could just make you a prince: "Ya'll see my powers" ) and that is definitely something that while it could never surpass Robin Williams performance, it is another interesting take while being different enough to warrant a remake.

I think it will be good.
I think it'll be okay, but not long in anyone's minds.

Jafar is flat and the original was one of the most compelling elements, they haven't shown a single frame of Aladdin's trademark smugness, Abu and Iago just seem like concessions rather than the writers actually wanting them involved. If not for Will Smith's name being on the marquee, I'm not sure anyone would really be into this thing at all, and Aladdin is my all-time favorite Disney movie with my favorite all-time Disney soundtrack, so I should be more pumped than anybody.

Though, I am really interested in what Nasim Pedrad adds. She was one of the best parts of Scream Queens.

And even that seems questionable since in the original "Prince Ali" sequence, Aladdin was rolling with the whole thing and playing up the smug, hotshot prince that was going to finally woo Jasmine.

Live action Aladdin, OTOH, looks awkward as hell and is radiating ALL the self-doubt and the sense he'd rather be anywhere but here.

I pretty much agree with this.

The only thing I've seen so far that didn't impress me too much was the Prince Ali number, and even that wasn't awful. It just lacked energy. Mostly, everything else looks pretty good.

It's pretty obvious that this movie was never gonna be as good as the original, but for what it is? So far it looks like a fun movie to watch.

Yeah, after watching it again, I get that vibe. He looks pretty uncomfortable for some reason.

I'm expecting the usual best friend type things: talking about boys, listens as Jasmine complains about her life, etc. I hope I'm wrong but this is all I can think of.

And yes her and Chanel #3 and #5 were the best parts of that show.

As for the movie itself, it's just sort of...there for me? I don't find myself thinking about it and I often forget it's coming out. While it doesn't look horrible to me, I certainly have my expectations incredibly low because I expect these live action remakes to be garbage. Except for a Whole New World. I think from what little we've seen so far that looks great.

Entertainment Weekly shared these images and stills of production designer Gemma Jackson creating the world of Agrabah. There are plenty if details in the link below.

Another new video also dropped.

Even in this picture... something about that smile makes him look so uncomfortable.

They did show that, but then again the guards did also throw Aladdin in some sort of body of water.

EDIT: Yeah, just looked up that scene on youtube and he was thrown off a cliff into a hugh body of water so Agrabah had to be near a sea or something. Not as close as it's shown in that picture, but still close.

I always got the impression Jafar had the guards take Aladdin far, far away to do that, though. I mean, they're not gonna try and drown him literally right next to the palace.

Yeah probably, though when Genie saves him and they return to Agrabah, it didn't seem like it was that far away as the palace was in the shot and didn't seem that far away based off its size of the palace. Hard to tell how much time passed as well between Aladdin getting knocked out and thrown as both scenes are set at night. Could be the same night, could be a different night. Just pointing out that there was a nearby body of water. Not as near as what's shown in the picture, but still close.

Ports make for profitable trading hubs, it would make sense for Agrabah to be such a wealthy place.

Yeah, this is one creative liberty I don't have a problem with. The idea of a bustling medieval metropolis being completely isolated from any rivers, lakes, or oceans is a bit of a stretch.

Yeah. Who cares if it has an ocean? It doesn't matter.

So good if you go in with tempered expectation. Fair.

What I'm getting from most of these is that it's a fun movie with a couple flaws.

I'm okay with that.

Of course Becky G finally delivers the emotion we needed!

She's consistently been the bright spot in a dull project.

One of the new songs, a duet between Alladin and Jasmine, was cut from the movie
