Disney's Live-Action 'Aladdin'

A year ago, it was reported that Disney was working on a film titled Genies, which will serve as a prequel to Aladdin. Now, news has surfaced that a live-action remake of the film is in the works as well. It will be directed by Guy Ritchie and the script is being written by John August. Many musical elements of the animated film will be retained. I honestly can't say that I'm surprised after all of these live-action adaptations that have been happening.

I'm not surprised either, but I'm definitely interested. I love Aladdin, so I would give it a chance. Still need to watch the Jungle Book.

I wonder who'll they want in the cast. I can't really think of anyone at the moment that I'd want for any of the parts.

About time! This is the one I've really been wanting out of all these Live Action Movies. (Well, this and Sword in the Stone.)

I think Brennan Mejia would be perfect for Aladdin.

He probably would be a pretty good Aladdin. And I no doubt think Yoshi would be awesome in anything, so sounds good to me.

Could be interesting. Just a damn shame Robin Williams isn't with us anymore, he could have reprised his role as Genie.

Speaking of reprisals, I would be all for Gottfried returning as Iago, but I'm not sure how likely that is.

They're gonna get some complete hack to replace Williams, aren't they...

At this point I think I just need a checklist set aside for every major Disney animated movie and to check it off every time a new adaptation is announced.

...although I doubt Pocahontas is getting one. For obvious reasons.

The casting for this will be interesting. Let's see if Disney can avoid the crazy minefield.

Disney loves Robin Williams version so much they seem to have retired him after his death.

I would not be surprised to see a female Genie since the animated one is so beloved.

Because if recasting Robin's iconic role doesn't piss people off, giving it to *shock horror* a woman surely will make it better?

A lot of eyes will be on Disney for fear of any racism or whitewashing. Similar to Mulan, they're gonna need to be careful about casting. They can't just do a "Prince of Persia" and cast the whitest man they can find

Can't they? Whitewashing Middle-Eastern characters isn't seen as nearly the transgression that whitewashing Black or Asian characters is. Probably because Middle-Easterners are technically the same race as White people anyway. They're separated by culture, not genetics.

Oh I pretty sure this movie will have a huge microscope on it. The characters in Aladdin are dark skinned, so if they cast a white actor this movie will be hit hard.

James Monroe Iglehart, who originated the role of the Genie in the Broadway production, is absolutely fantastic. I really do think that he's the best choice.
