James McAvoy is apparently set to star as Professor X in the film.

God bless clickbait headers.

Headline says he is in. Quote from the actress says "I think he's in"

To be fair ranger_scout did say 'apparantly'.

Besides, is there such a thing as a non-clickbait filmnews header?

I was referring to the actual headline, not his post.

And to answer your question, no.

The film is set for release on April 13, 2018. The cast is officially set to include Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones) as Wolfsbane, Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch) as Magik, Nat Wolff as Cannonball, and James McAvoy as Professor Charles Xavier.

Williams as Wolfsbane, neat! And Taylor-Joy has a very unique look... haven't seen her in anything but I can picture her looking fantastic as Magik.

I hope they cast Sunspot, Mirage and Warlock since they've been confirmed to appear in the film, while I feel the team isn't complete without Magma, Karma and Cypher.

Agreed.

Taylor-Joy was in Split, which was a good film and a much needed comeback for M. Night Shyamalan.

He was great in that underrated Nickelodeon show The Naked Brothers Band with his younger brother Alex.

You're gonna need someone pretty good to play Warlock. Mirage is a bit more forgiving in that respect. Presumably Dani cannot be a valkyrie in this film, as the Asgard rights are with Disney?

Not the same guy they had to play Sunspot in DoFP then? (I'm joking [mostly].)

I can understand wanting Magma. A powerhouse like her would be great to see rendered in film (I for one could do without the adjustments to her backstory every five minutes however, therefore if she does appear at any point I hope they pick one and stick with it), but why the other two?

Cypher * well, OK, somehow he kept being useful so I can sort of understand that. He's like X-Men's equivalent to Usborne Puzzle Adventure protagonists, he does the puzzle part and the other characters do all the action stuff.

But why Karma? Just to have the full set?

Most likely.

I can tell.

Because in the source material for the film (the Demon Bear storyline), she was part of the team.

Cypher * well, OK, somehow he kept being useful so I can sort of understand that. He's like X-Men's equivalent to Usborne Puzzle Adventure protagonists, he does the puzzle part and the other characters do all the action stuff.
Well, he got flack for it before he was killed off in The Fall of the Mutants until he got rescued from the scrappy heap after being brought back to life.

But why Karma? Just to have the full set?
Not just that.

Anya Taylor-Joy is going from being haunted by a creepy magic person to becoming a creepy magic person herself.

Can't wait, personally.

Is this going to be the mutants from Logan who made it to Canada, or a different group?

More than likely a different group, since James McAvoy is slated to be in it as Xavier.

The events of Logan take place in the year 2029; this movie is more likely to take place much earlier than that.

Yeah, this is likely to focus on students at the school like the comic New Mutants.

Watch as it takes place in 2017 and McAvoy is is still looking like Xavier in the 60s.

Minor off-topic but I have to concede for Chris Claremont being completly clever with the names he came up with for the New Mutants:

Cannonball, Sunspot, Wolfsbane and Moonstar (not a hero name but still) are names that sound really cool

They're still cool names even after the Eighties.

Why would she be anyway? That was a much later development in the comics, a way to repower her after she lost her original powers on M-Day. Same reason they made Jubilee a vampire.

Dani's codename is Mirage.
