If it makes it's money and proves to Disney to expand upon their use of Marvel Comics IPs as an inspiration for future movies, it's done the job it's a test for. Plenty of wonderful things in the grand library of comics to inspire titles and be adapted from to make movies out of just like Disney used to do with old fiction books (The Rescuers, The Great Dinosaur Robbery, Freaky Friday, The Jungle Book, etc).

Well, there hasn't been a bad Canon movie under John Lasetter's tenure yet, so it may end up doing great. Maybe as long as people don't build up unrealistic expectations and whatnot, it'll go over just fine.

Wreck-It Ralph was about Video Games, and that turned out well, so perhaps "adapting" a comic book story would do good too.

Well we already know adapting from comic books is quite effective and can be profitable, such as The Mask,Rurouni Kenshin, and Men In Black. As long as it's done right and within expectations. It just needs to be proven to Disney heads beyond the already established superheroes that have long been a part of adapted media (cartoons, novels, movies, etc).

I have no real worry though here, as you said about Lasetter's tenure plus the fact there is a good team behind it.

why do i have a feeling this movie is going to end up unintentionally stereotypical? hope it ends up well, but i'm still a bit skeptic about how it will turn how.

So this movie isn't the first Marvel Studios animated film but rather the first Disney film loosely based on Marvel characters? I guess I can get behind that.

I do wonder if that's going to be the norm though. Disney takes Marvel characters and builds it own worlds and stories around them passing it off as a Disney original. I know Disney owns Marvel now but I can't help but think they would do such a thing to ensure the titles of future Marvel based movies say "Disney's insert hero name" instead of "Marvel's blank hero name" like Marvel studios movies do now.

*looks at thread title, then looks at OP*

So, which is it: the 53rd or the 54th Disney Studios film?

54th. Thread title is the correct title.

54th. At the time this thread was made, Frozen #53 wasn't out yet.
--------------
Disney's gonna have their hands full again when this is released; just like Frozen, they're releasing their big movie near the time of a Hunger Games and Hobbit movie.

I hope they play their marketing cards right this time.

Yeah, I've always gotten the feeling the release date will be changed.

A princess movie may as well be a sequel, everyone goes in knowing what to expect. With this, not only are you relying primarily on boys (who want to see people killing each other in the competing films), the characters they're using are already lesser-known, meaning those who do care about the Marvel name might be all "Where're the Avengers? Pass."

It's gonna be a tough road to hoe hanging your hat on the word 'Disney' alone.

This ties in to my last post. Why not use the Marvel branding here? I think "Marvel's Big Hero 6" is more attractive to young boys than "Disney's Big Hero 6." I'm sure Disney could still tell it's own story with these characters without having to slap its name on it.

Would be a bit wordy, but having both Marvel and Disney in their logo would do good as well.

Would remind people that Marvel is in good hands.

It's not unprecedented as Disney/Pixar sits on top of the title of Pixar movies.

Huh. Oh yeah.

There you go then; Disney/Marvel's Big Hero 6. Nothing could go wrong from that.

It's likely the next major news will come at SDCC. Disney and Marvel could do double the marketing there.

From what I read up, a few of the BH6 in the comics has connections with the X-Men, but for the movie I highly doubt they'll do that.

If anything, I fully expect them to do something original with the characters, change them around various ways and make new stories. You know, like nearly every other adaptation Disney did.

Oh I have no doubt they will only be the same characters in name only. Which is fine by me because I don't know much about the comics.

The only complaint I had was the decision to make this Disney's next adaption instead of Marvel Studios first animation. I was hoping they were starting something outside of the MCU because that can't go on forever, right?

Interesting. Eager to see more info as we reach the release date.

The sillhouettes of the BH6 look interesting enough. Hope the character designs are good.
