Does...that really matter?

Really, does anything you say really matter.

If it fair that the show is so popular? No.

As said, the two shows I cited are far superior to it and don't get a tenth the attention.

...but that's no reason to want it to just go away, especially when you yourself haven't seen it.
I gave my reasons why I want it to go away. Of course, stick with the "I'm rubber, you're glue" tactic, that works for you.

It's.. not about the toys. Yes, they're decidedly less than "exciting".. or even accurate...

It's about this stuff:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VSZXY_WuHe0

Or if you want more action..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_o3TTuGrYuQ

Also, if you really INSIST on trying to call the toys..um... "action figures".... Then the sub-line these are an example of is in scale and does have moveable legs and light-up features.
You know, I checked out the meme links you posted. And it's all essentially just 4chan decorated with pretty glitter and sparkles. I don't see how stuff like "candy vag" and "Derpy Hooves" is any good. Especially since it originated in 4chan.

The toys thing was more of a joke about the original figures from years ago, when my sister would have her friends over and they'd watch the show on TV, and stare aimlessly at the box, slowly stroking their hair in some sort of trance. During commericials, they'd all turn around, and bounce their ponies on the coffee table, because they could only move their heads and giggle and laugh and play with their not moving "action figures."

Sorry if that part came out wrong. I'm not insulting the toys themselves,or even the show really, my point was that it's always going to be that show. The show my sister used to watch with her friends and their plastic ponies that didn't move.

MLP and all cartoons from the 80s are special.

Some of the larger scale toys come with DVDs of the show. I don't know how many are available, but I've seen at least 'The Tickest Master' avaialble so far.

I like the show and used to watch the original as a kid. I even used to play with my sister's toy ponies on occasion. I wouldn't call myself a "brony" but the show is well-written, well made and has wide-spread appeal, as should be obvious by now.

The creator, Lauren Faust said she made the show with the intention that little girls could watch it with their parents and they would all enjoy it. She didn't expect a horde of guys in their 20s to become fans but she is very happy about it and I personally don't see anything wrong with people who aren't the target demographic liking the show because at the end of the day it's just a cute cartoon with strong values and moral messages at it's core.

I've seen women/girls look at the male fanbase and go "what do they even *like* about this show? They must all be lolicon furries/perverts!" and although there is pony slash fanfiction/fanart I think it is limited to a small percentage of the adult male sector of the fanbase and we shouldn't all be painted with the same sparkly brush.

I myself like it for the art style, the animation, the voice acting, the writing and the characters (I really identify with Twilight Sparkle, make of that what you will...) but I don't think I'll be buying the figures, cute as they are.

I'm one of the few who like the two-part pilot but I did flinch when they stole two lines directly from Disney's Sleeping Beauty. Homage or not, did they think we wouldn't notice?

You're supposed to notice homages. That's the purpose of them.

Like two Benny Hill chases with the music in 2 episodes, the Blazing Saddles homages, Rocky training montage, Ghostbusters, Spaceballs, ..Apocalypse Now for pity's sake. They threw so much in for the older crowd. I Love it.

4chan (which I've never been to, actually..) is part of the reason for the early explosion shortly after it started and apparently the reason for a lot of these odd images and such that are everywhere.

But appart from that, what makes Derpy Hooves so special is that they started putting her in the show as the fans depicted her. She was this first gigantic nod that the creators were paying attention to this odd fanbase and watching it unfold, and even willing to incorporate fannon into real cannon. Which they've now down wth ither fan-favorit background characters.

Okay, this I could "get into."

This not so much.

Well sure, but again that started, according to the link you posted, on 4chan.

However, while I still don't get it, Angel you've given me a broader understanding of "why" without having me watch it. Saying "just watch it, you'll enjoy it" isn't something I wanted to do, and you've given me a solution besides that.

But, in the future, I (this is my opinion though) would never cite 4chan as a reason to like anything.

Rocky training montage

I love that scene, sucks no one has the damn scene without added in music.

What i like about the show is it really brings me back into faust's old shows. It brings back the same humor and fun that i had watching Foster's home for imaginary friends or the power puff girls when i was younger (especially since some of the episodes are On demand on my cable provider).

What really gets me is how close the crew is to there fans, some of them actually go onto some of the fan sites and have discussions with the fans, you don't see that very often. My favorite thing so far is the Equestrian Girls video they made that had some nods to all the stuff the fanbase has made, like the term Brony or the name DJ Pon-3 for a character that only appeared for like 3 seconds on the show.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A003j...eature=related

It's just a fun show and i can't wait for season 2.

I um... I didn't cite 4chan. I've never been there, so it's largely irrelevant to me.

You cited it from the article on knowyourmeme. This is probably a better article. I should have thought of this one as well, but it has less of the sudden fandom history, just focusing on the show.

http://www.thegeekprofessor.com/why-...-is-magic-fan/

It's a good article. The only problem I have with it, is that he leaves out the negative traits of each in his character summaries. Probably for spoiler reasons.. But I think it's really the addition of those characteristics that fleshes them out conciderably.

I love this show. It's funny, clever, thought-provoking, and has some great characters (My favorite is the totally random Pinkie Pie).

Yeah I recently got into the show. It's not bad at all, I figured i'd give it a shot cause i saw some positive comments about it in the merchandise thread.

And yeah I love it, pinkie pie is indeed random, and yeah some people may make fun of people that like it but the truth is, it seems to have quite a large following. The creators didn't expect an older audience, well at least not an older audience that doesn't have kids of their own.

I've only seen a few episodes so far, but I know one thing as soon as it hits DVD i'm totally buying it.

A girl I know started quoting lines from a FiM futa porn she was reading in-chat a while back. Not my kind of thing, but the circumstances made it all extremely hilarious.

Me, I haven't read fanfiction in years, but suddenly I find myself waiting for new chapters of an adorable (and clean) Luna/Twilight ship fic.

Confound these ponies, indeed.

It's better than Power Rangers has ever been, as far as I'm concerned.

A strange realization after 10 years with the PR online fandom.

Goth Kung-Fu Apple Bloom! In Socks!

You know.. I keep wondering why Apple Bloom's bandana had "human" skulls on it. Where would they get such an image from?

Not like the Shadowbolts, with their winged pony-skulls.

They're probably monkey skulls, from Zecora's "faraway land" or something.

Monkeys were seen among the wildlife at the Grand Galloping Gala.

I wasn't thrilled the first time I watched it (I was hoping Discord would be a pony), but all my complaints disappeared when I found out it was John de Lancie doing the voice
