I think the show is missing its potential...

it would be better served if it goes either full drama or full comedy...

the mixture is jarring...
its easy to slip into it like a comfortable pair of slippers because we're all familiar with the character/story cliches, but I think the show could be much more than being a carbon-copy clone of TNG...

By virtue of the show acknowledging the weirdness and letting characters take the piss out of each other, it's already beyond a carbon copy clone.

I think this show is currently on a crash course to be remembered as "The good modern Star Trek show"

It just gets better ever week. But the heaviness of this episode did come from out of nowhere, I feel.

And that bittersweet ending...

Did seeing Seth Mcfarlane in the cowboy outfit remind anyone else of a million ways to die in the west? Oh and the Destinys child reference was hilarious. And its also quite clear that Ed is never ever going to drop the "my wife cheated on me" jokes.

I understand what people are saying about the lack of humour but i am personally still enjoying it for what it is as a stand alone show... with a comedy you should be hitting home runs of laughter from the get go, but theres still time for it to improve.

Glad to see continuity is a factor and its not just random episodes here and there. A very touching story though which i must admit i would have preferred to see later on within the season.

Hoping to visit isaac or allaras home world at some point

I love the way this show is going. It's so much more realistic (I mean the character interactions and personalities). There's seriousness, but also horsing around. It feels like a normal office setting.

At work -- we call each other dicks, but when shit gets serious, its serious.

I'm liking this show a lot. The pilot was poor, but it's really hitting its stride. It has just enough comedy to not be a full-on Star Trek ripoff, but not too much to beat you over the head with it, like it did in the pilot. Each episode has impressed me more than the last.

I wouldn't mind a tie-in novel of some sort for this show, like they do with actual Trek. I'm actually very interested in the mechanics of this universe.

So...
Liam Neeson. Wasn't expecting that.

Otherwise a fine enough episode. Had some nice comedy moments but again not too heavy handed with it overall. And apparently next week Charlize Theron is guesting, so that's cool.

With each passing episode the show gets better and better and could be one of my favorite shows. The comedy isn't laugh out loud but it does puts a smile on my face and in a good mood. This show reminds me of old school shows like Star Trek or Outer Limits where moral and ethics enhance the story. Last week's episode was heavy with
changing a gender of the baby
and questioning whether or not one race of beings should oppose another's traditions because it doesn't agree with their own. I liked this week's episode of blindly following a certain way because that's all that is known to people and expanding horizons. Can't wait for next week's episode.

Eh, this plot was derivative, we get one in every journey show. And why didn't everyone freak the freak out when night came for the first time? Earth cultures were known to think of events like eclipses as the apocalypse.

And I'm still trying to figure out why Isaac's attitude toward humanity seems to have changed from the pilot, unless he's just super-polite in his idea that everyone is inferior to him. ...I could have sworn Ed sent him back to the shuttle way back when they first found their communicators not working.

The star power Seth's pulling is pretty amazing. Aslan this week, Aeon Flux next week.

yeah, his shows have been known for that so it should be interesting to see who else pops up...

the whole show is derivative, but Seth just is in love with Star Trek and since he'd never get the call to helm the show this is his way of playing in that same playground...it is a lot more serious than perhaps FOX would like, since they probably expect all his work to have yukks...

one of the things about the way FOX is promoting it in the commercials is as a full comedy and that they seem to spoil all the jokes because there aren't really that many punchlines in the show...

anyone else think Klyden is going to be filing for divorce soon?

I wouldn't be surprised if their version of divorce proceedings looked similar to Amok Time dueling...

Aslan... ASLAN!!?? Qui-Gon or get out...

I'm not as impressed with the actor count as the graphics. I mean, that bio-ship... that wasn't cheap to make. I'm continuously amazed at the CGI elements this show has.

I'm waiting for the cast to appear in a crossover with McFarlane's animated shows.
I want to see Ed talk to Brian and Peter Griffin.

Liam Neeson this week, and Charlize Theron next week. Who else from A Million Ways to Die in the West will Seth get to appear?

I liked that they kept his credit hidden. More shows need to do that. *Cough* Stargate Atlantis season 4.

I've come to terms now that i dont watch this show for the comedy effect but because i am now actually interested in the story... maybe because i have never watched star trek i dont have anything to directly compare it to or can point out if they have taken bits and pieces from storylines but it has me more interested than expected
Hoping we can get more episodes connected by storylines or references from past episodes popping up

I loved the friends reference and when kelly said space stretches to infinity i was expecting someone to say "and beyond" after her
Liam Neeson!!! Wasnt expecting that at all...seeing him felt so natural and as if it was meant to be.. Hope we can see that community of people again in a future episode or maybe even series if the show gets continued

That green blob is trying his hardest with the doctor but i dont think he understands how creepy he is being he is trying to skip so many bases just for that home run
I also feel Bortus and Klyden are going to seek counselling or get a divorce soon with the way things are going (they are married right)?

Yeah, I really waited for that "...and beyond" comment to appear, and was sorely disappointed that it didn't go that way.
