She didn't like animation at all so having it used in a movie about something she created didn't sit well with her.

Emily Blunt is talks to play Mary Poppins. She's a fantastic actress and singer. We'll just have to wait and see how this turns out.

Oh, that article's a joke. I should be laughing, I guess. >__>

Redmayne would be good, though. But he's good in everything.

I always wanted a Winifred Banks suffragette costume, complete with the sash (same style and font as the Votes for Women sash but with different words).

She also hated how Mary, George, and other characters were portrayed in Walt's film as well. She cried during the whole premiere.

Hmm, The Wrap's story isn't very helpful.

Does that mean that's all the names they've signed so far, or they've wised up and just promoted Miranda to Bert?

Inside the Magic says it's pretty much official.

As if that weren’t enough, Disney also confirmed it is planning a sequel to “Mary Poppins,” to star Emily Blunt and Lin Mauneul-Miranda, creator and star of Broadway’s smash hit “Hamilton.”

Disney has officially announced that the film will be titled, Mary Poppins Returns. It is also scheduled for release on December 25, 2018.

Disney has officially announced a sequel to the 1964 classic “Mary Poppins” called “Mary Poppins Returns” with Rob Marshall directing and starring Golden Globe Award winner Emily Blunt (“Into the Woods,” the upcoming “Girl on the Train”) and Emmy, GRAMMY, Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize winner Lin-Manuel Miranda (“Hamilton,” “In the Heights”).

The same production team that created “Into the Woods” will be reuniting with this new project as it will be produced by Marshall, Emmy winner and Golden Globe® nominee John DeLuca and Oscar, Emmy and Tony Award® nominee and Golden Globe winner Marc Platt. Oscar nominee David Magee will be writing the screenplay, which will be based on The Mary Poppins Stories by P.L. Travers.

“I am truly humbled and honored to be asked by Disney to bring P.L. Travers’ further adventures to the screen. The iconic original film means so much to me personally, and I look forward to creating an original movie musical that can bring Mary Poppins, and her message that childlike wonder can be found in even the most challenging of times, to a whole new generation,” says Marshall.

More info on the upcoming film was provided by Disney’s press release:

Blunt has been cast as Mary Poppins and Miranda will play a new character, a street lamplighter named Jack. Drawing from the wealth of material in P.L. Travers’ seven additional novels, the story will take place in Depression-era London (when the books were originally written) and follows a now-grown Jane and Michael Banks, who, along with Michael’s three children, are visited by the enigmatic Mary Poppins following a personal loss. Through her unique magical skills, and with the aid of her friend Jack, she helps the family rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives.

Cool, I didn't know Jane and Michael were adults in this one. Now it makes sense why there's no Bert, he'd be as old as Dick Van Dyke at this point.

Wait a minute, that means they could get Dick Van Dyke to cameo as Bert. Do it, Disney!

A Julie Andrews cameo would be supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! Julie is 80 years, and Dick is 90 years. This might be their last big screen opportunity.

Even the coldest of hearts would melt if there's a cameo of Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke watching on, then walking into the sunset.

Today, the movie was listed as one of Entertainment Weekly's sequels that took more than 10 years to be released after its predecessor. Not surprisingly it has the longest length with 54 years.

Rob Marshall said that he is good friends with Julie and believes that she would be open to a cameo. I'm sure Van Dyke is absolutely willing to do it. He recently sang "Let's Go Fly a Kite" in front of Walt Disney's childhood home in Chicago.
