Sequel. Not a reboot, not a remake.

It's actually a reboot.

the new project (which is decidedly not being developed as a sequel) will explore Mary’s further adventures with the Banks family and beyond as illustrated by Travers’ seven additional novels.

Well... it was built on lies to maintain their good image.
I haven't seen the movie, but from what I've heard it wasn't lies exactly. It was definitely sugarcoated in Disneys favor though. But based on what I'm reading she was not a nice person to begin with. She didn't like the movie because it was essentially not serious enough. And I just found out that She adopted one of two twins from a struggling family. She didn't take the other because of an astrologer told her to and never told her adopted son he had a brother. He didn't find out he had a brother until he was an adult and met him in a nearby pub.

So overall we're dealing with the battle of the grays. Walt Disney may have been manipulating things to go his way, but she was being completely unreasonable with her stance. The funny thing is how many of us would've even heard about Mary Poppins if it wasn't for Disney?

Emily Blunt is apparently the front-runner to play Mary Poppins. It wouldn't surprise me if she did end up playing the part after working with Rob Marshall and Disney in Into the Woods.

Robert de Niro thinks his Intern co-star Anne Hathaway would be perfect for the role of Mary. Anne said she was humbled by the notion and the fact that people want her to play the role, but she thinks Emily Blunt is going to get the part.

Despite the obvious lack of an accent, I have to agree with Bobby that Anne Hathaway is the superior Mary Poppins.

Hell, didn't she win an Emmy playing that exact type of character in a Simpsons episode?

So cancel tron 3, and lets make a sequel to a classic movie that the author specifically didn't want disney or anyone else to ever touch again?

This just doesn't seem right. The creator didn't want this to happen.

No, she played Jenny, one of Bart's love interests.

And she did not win an Emmy for that. She hasn't won an Emmy at all, yet,

The Mary Poppins-esque character was Shary Bobbins.

While I don't doubt there was some of that involved, it was in her will. Can you go against a last will and testament?

Let me put it like this. I felt uncomfortable watching the movie because it felt masturbatory on the studio's part. I know she wasn't a pleasant person to be around but fucking hell, this is just twisting the knife into her corpse.

Let's just hope PL Travers isn't going to come back to haunt them.

First, she's been on the show twice. I was talking about Princess Penelope, who is also an elegant British singing character.

Second, according to the wiki you linked, she DID win an Emmy for that role.

I'm pretty sure wills are only legally binding as to your personal holdings. If Disney has the rights, they can do whatever the hell they want with Mary Poppins.

It was early, and I wasn't fully awake. And Simpsons Wiki says there wasn't anything magic about Princess Penelope.

Mary Poppins herself, Julie Andrews, is celebrating her 80th birthday today.

http://www.biography.com/news/julie-...king-interview

I have not heard her thoughts on this movie, but I'd imagine she supports it. She had positive things to say about The Sound of Music Live! even though most of the kids from the 1965 film did not like it. She also liked Saving Mr. Banks and thoroughly enjoyed the West End and Broadway adaptation of Mary Poppins from Disney Theatrical.

Rob Marshall says that this movie is not a remake but an "extension".

"It is not a new Mary Poppins," Marshall told Vulture last night at the National Arts Awards about his upcoming Disney musical about the iconic nanny. Instead, Marshall's project will be set in 1934, when the original P.L. Travers books were written, and draw from the other books about the iconic nanny. "P.L. Travers wrote eight books all together. They worked from the first book, and we are working from the other books, not touching the iconic brilliance of Mary Poppins. This is an extension. I'm a huge fan of the original, and I'm a very good friend of Julie Andrews, and I hold it in such awe," he said. "There is all this new material * it was the Harry Potter of its time * and they were never turned into anything further than that adventure."
He also says it's possible that Julie Andrews could have a role in it.

"She is a very dear friend, and if she could be involved in some way, it would be very special," he says. "I know she is very happy that we're doing it and, after 50 years, feels that it is time."

It's good that they're drawing from the greater well.

There are so many adaptations of book series that have only given us the slightest peek into their universes.

I'm confused why the Author hated the animation in the original so much?
