I think there needs to be a Disney Prince line to balance the Princess line out. I get that certain ones like Charming would be hard to spin as an action hero, but the more action oriented ones like Phillip, the Beast, Aladdin, Hercules (okay, he's *technically* a prince if you spin it right) would make a great action figure line.

I still think Eowyn should be one; yeah Disney doesn't want to admit they made "The Black Cauldron" but I like the movie (also like the two books its based on, still need to read the last three Prydain books) and she's a great character and a great princess regardless of the infamy of the film.

Other than that, I'll stick with Jasmine and Tiana...and wish Giselle would be one personally but, as said, royalties.
...eilonwy is her name

Eilonwy? Having recently seen The Black Cauldron, she really does seem like a tacked on character. If we've actually seen the rest of Prydain get adapted, maybe we could've seen more of her.

Her character was really changed in the film, she was a redhead in the book, instead of a blonde, and i think the black cauldron was one of disneys darkest, if not the only dark animated movie it released, only saw it once, didnt don bluth work on it, hense why it was dark?

There was a "disney heroes" line...not sure if its around, it focused on peter pan, tarzan, aladdin, eric, etc

That's not so much about denying they made it as it is that to acknowledge and use it means paying royalties.

My fave is Mulan as well. In the second movie, she almost became a princess. Can't wait for Anna's official induction.

Who else thinks there needs to be an animated crossover movie?

That reminds me of this fan made short that never ended up happening.

It could have been awesome.

Anyway, while I love these characters individually, the princess line itself is garbage if you ask me.

Kind of on topic. Robot Chicken's interpretation to what would happen if the princesses ever met.

Does Mulan really count as a "princess"? She's not royalty by birth & she doesn't marry into a royal family.

I know its just a marketing tagline but that's been on my mind for a while...

A number of them don't count.

They either are or become princesses through marriage. Pocahontas and Mulan are the 2 that stick out. Pocahontas kind of was a princess in that her father was the tribe Cheif, but I have no idea if that makes her a princess according to Native American culture. Mulan becomes engaged to a general, who may have been a prince.

Tiana, Belle and Cinderella marry a Prince, making them royalty.

Ha, I called it! Yeah, it is just a marketing thing. It's just that "Popular Human Female Disney Character Who's At Least 13 Years Old" doesn't quite roll off the tongue like "Disney Princess"

Mulan is the hero of China, I think that's enough. Lol.

And Pocahontas is the daughter of the chieftain, so although not technically a princess, she's the daughter of the leader. Same with Merida.

Yeah, the logic of Pocahontas will seemingly apply for Moana in the future. But hopefully her movie will be successful and herself appealing, otherwise we will have another Kida situation.

Pocahontas is not a princess. It's offensive to even apply that terminology or put any positive spin on her entire story the way Disney has. It's insane to me that they still include her when there are ongoing lawsuits trying to get Disney to drop the use of her at all.

And Giselle was going to be one but they realized they'd have to pay royalties to Amy Adams for her likeness.
Damn. Though, we should be honest here, and ask: Does she really count? After all, "Enchanted" was more of a tribute/parody anyway.

I'm very mixed about the Princess line. On one hand, I do like that the newer princesses are good role models, particularly Merida, but the older archetypical Disney Princesses are just a mess and not something girls should aspire to or look up to. That comes down to just a difference in time of creation, sure, but also they are the lead iconic ones and there was that mess of when they brought Merida in and made her look like a classic Disney princess in clean clothes and makeup not the wild bad ass she was.

It also bothers me immensely that Disney uses Pocahontas at all. Not a princess and an incredibly offensive interpretation all around.

Yeah...being PC isn't a color that looks good on anybody. A few of your little nitpicks are exactly, in essence, one of the modern arguments brought up that truly sickens me. Let me guess, you must not like the representation of Quasimodo/The Hunchback of Notre Dame story either?

Do you know the actual Pocahontas story? I feel like that alone should make anyone offended they made the movie, let alone still profit off her and continue to use her like they do.
