It would have been hilarious if they'd done a quick cut to what the Princes were up to, and finding out they were the ones doing all the things associated with girl's sleepovers (pillow fights, gossiping, manipedis, etc.)

Well we saw Naveen during the big save at the end...stuck as a frog but he did kiss Ralph.

About a few months ago, there was a video about why Mulan actually doesn't fit the title of a Disney Princess. I know that I was surprised at first when I found out that she was in the line-up since she has no royal heritage nor did she marry a prince. However, she's dis lots of heroic acts and it's nice that she brings diversity to the group.

I think it's time we actually talk about the "rules" Disney has for being a Disney Princess. From what research has been done it seems that the rules are as follows:

1. The character is either born royal or married into it.
2. The character has done a heroic act. (Mulan)
3. The character must be human or humanish. (Ariel)
4. The character can't be introduced in a sequel.
5. The character can't be live action.
6. The character can't be part of a larger franchise.
7. The character has to either be the main character or part of the main cast in a Disney film.
8. The film had to have made a set amount of money at the box office.

There are probably other rules bit those are the main ones from what I ubderstand.

Seen them and he barely covered the subject just boiling it down to having an animal buddy and wearing a dress and also tied it to a topic best not talked about here. A while back SuperCarlinBrothers did videos about the Disney Princesses. This is thier playlist of them. Need to to watch them again myself as it's been a while since I last saw them.

Or there's the much simpler qualifications, as laid out in Moana.

And yet Moana.... INS'T A DISNEY PRINCESS! This was what part 2 of Matpat's Film Theory was based on and it's a very, very, VERY flimsy thing to use as it opens way too many doors. Moana isn't a part of the official line up and neither are Anna and Elsa.

How is two videos "barely covering the subject"?

He also mentions that their movie needed to make [x] amount of money at the box office, and thus why certain animated royalty like Kida (Atlantis) or Eilonwy (Black Cauldron). Which from my perspective is the decisive factor.

Also your list isn't really exhaustive either, nor does it apply to all the official Disney Princesses. For instance, Snow and Aurora never did anything heroic. The above on how Mulan wasn't born into royalty.

The heroic act rule is for Mulan and why she qualifies. Even if Mulan did marry in her second movie that wouldn't count due to bring a sequel.

Here's a short little LEGO story featuring Ariel, Cinderella, and Aurora. It looks like Aurora isn't afraid of standing up to her enemy in this version.

Now that official photos of all of the live-action princesses have been released here they are with their animated counterparts.

This other set of photos is just as good.

The Little Mermaid is going to be re-released next month on a 30th Anniversary Signature Edition Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD, but that's not all. It will also be the first Disney Princess movie to be released in 4K Ultra HD. So, it seems Disney is really starting embrace 4K Ultra HD, especially by releasing a 2D animated film in that format.

I really don't need to rebuy a Disney classic on blu ray. But then again I did it with Pinocchio. It's just that they're a bit on the pricey side for releases and I have them all on DVD anyways...but I love the Little Mermaid. I may be tempted. We'll see when it comes out.

I got the last Blu-Ray release. Since I don't have a 4K tv, I don't need to buy a new version.

The quality for the Blu-ray and DVD will most likely be the same as the Diamond Edition from 2013. However, the 4K Ultra HD copy will probably look much better since everyone says that is the best quality.

Like GoldAnyRanger, I also don't own a 4K TV and I probably won't get one until either the summer or holiday season of this year. The only Disney Princess movies that probably won't get released in that format are Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and Cinderella since the shots and frames for animated films were not as large back then. It wasn't until Sleeping Beauty when the films were presented in a wider format.

Jodi Benson shared this message earlier today about The Little Mermaid's 30th anniversary. I'm so thankful that I had the opportunity to meet her last year.

The lion king was just an upscale from what I understand. Movies animated on the caps system are limited to 2k. Mermaid, being mostly animated on cels (except for one shot or two) will be able to be output in true 4k.
