Will Smith is up for a role in the film. At first I was thinking either Timothy Mouse or the Ring Master, but then I thought maybe the leader of the crows because he has singing experience.

He has music experience. Rapping and singing are two very different things.

I saw the old comments but don't remember this thread or the movie announcement.

Tim Burton is fun! Reimagining Dumbo sounds fun! Why all the moaning?

Mostly because a lot of people disagree with your first statement.

Wow. Had no idea. From Scissorhands, Nightmare, corpse bride, Ed Wood, Pee-Wee and Sweeney Todd?! Always fun to me.

Because in light of Johnny Depp's assault charges, the idea of him getting work is uncomfortable to some people? And Tim Burton always uses Johnny Depp?

Variety says that Smith is actually in talks to play the father of some children who befriend Dumbo. Tom Hanks has been offered to play a villain, but he might not accept it because he has another project that would interfere with his schedule.

With ears as big as his, Will could play Dumbo himself.

So some people are uncomfortable with Tim Burton making Dumbo because they're afraid that pending assault charges' Johnny Depp might be in it?

Then buckle up for the Fantastic Beasts 2 downfall.

Counterpoints: Charlie & the Chocolate Factory, Planet of the Apes, Alice In Wonderland, Batman Returns.

when Burton does something new & original, usually it turns out fine. When he REMAKES something- which is essentially what Dumbo would be- it winds up deeply disturbing...

I liked Charlie and Batman Returns haha. Charlie was always weird like Burton and it was closer to the book also. I also loved Return to Oz probably more than The Wizard of Oz in the same way.

In this case of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory...yeah needless to say:

Good adaptation =/= Good movie.

The original Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory was a far better movie even if it wasn't the most loyal of adaptations.

Bad Boys 3 just got pushed back from January 2018 to November 2018. Variety said that had Smith accepted the role for Dumbo, it would delay the start of production for Bad Boys 3. So I'm thinking that he's in.

I never knew I wanted Will Smith in a Dumbo movie being made by Tim Burton. But, I guess I do and I have no idea why.

Why would I want ANY humans (other than background circus folk) to feature in Dumbo?

So much for Smith appearing in the film. Disney apparently couldn't work out a deal with him due to reasons involving salary and scheduling.

It doesn't look like Tom Hanks will be starring in it either. Greyhound, which is the other film he was thinking about starring in, just got acquired by Sony Pictures.

Eva Green, who previously worked with Burton in both Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children and Dark Shadows, is in talks to play one of three human characters in the film.
