It used to be, though it might be different now, that when you bought the Batman license for your merchandise/series, you more or less got Robin free. It's a waste not to use him!
Well, with The Batman, they weren't actually allowed to use Robin until Teen Titans finished its run, hence why Batgirl ended up being introduced before him.

It would be nice for something to eventually be recognized without the shadow of the Timmverse looming over it. As wonderful as it was, can we let something stand on its own for once?
But I'm still waiting for something that finally retcons TT into the DCAU.

Considering how much it conflicts with the DCAU, that.. is not going to happen.

Eh. It's doable. The continuity conflicts could be resolved with a retcon or two. It's more that no one is going to care enough to put the effort into making the two series align.

It's actually technically been done, as the Teen Titans version of Speedy appeared in JLU. He was a few years older, but the character and distinctive costume design were completely intact. If you consider Titans as being set between Dick being Robin on BTAS and Tim taking over, and ignore the costume inconsistency, it generally fits.

Awesome, a new DC cartoon. Probably won't air on my local airwaves till next year at most.

Also, exactly why is all Wonder Woman stuff tied up at the moment?

It's a combination of a contract issue that prevents her from being used unless she's the star (which is why she didn't appear in Batman Beyond's Justice League. Big Barda was a last minute replacement when Warner Bros legal pointed out that they couldn't use Wonder Woman) as well as internal issues regarding Wonder Woman projects that are perpetually in development and thus render the character off limits elsewhere.

It's complicated legal stuff.

Wow, so these legal bullcrap has been around for a while? Always thought it was rather recent.

Yet somehow she was able to appear in Justice League/JLU, and Justice League: New Frontier...

For contract purposes, she's a main character in Justice League titles. But she can't be a guest star or supporting character without there being all sorts of trouble.

Actually, that's something of a myth. They bought the character outright several years ago, and those contractual issues dissipated. At this point it has more to do with WB licensing department's internal squabbles, mostly relating to the movie department getting...for lack of a better word jelous...about her appearing elsewhere.

Same reason we got Green Arrow in Smallville instead of Bruce Wayne.

Yeah, WB needs to remove heads from asses and get things sorted. It really doesn't show them as being very professional when internal squabbling is affecting shows like that.

Really, Batman and Wonder Woman arent needed for Smallvile. At this rate, it'll just come off as a gimmick and porn for comic geeks, not anything logistical or neccersary. It's bad enough Green Arrow has effectivly taken over Clark's show anyway...I don't want Bruce or Diana hogging that spotlight either. It's Clark's show, Clark's journey, he should take it by the reins. Anyone else is going to make you forget this is about Superman.

There is also legal issues for Conner as well. Can't use the Superboy costume but the name is fine.

Also no Donna on Teen Titans.

Not really. We know for a fact that it was contract issues that prevented Wonder Woman from being in Batman Beyond, thanks to Bruce Timm being open about it when it occurred. It appears that when DC bought the character, they agreed to certain terms and regulations. While some of the Wonder Woman lack of use is due to other projects continually in production which keep her and her supporting cast from being used elsewhere, the "must be a star" bit is also in effect.

As for Batman, there were plans YEARS ago to have Bruce Wayne show up before becoming Batman. Clark would have the wonderful line, "Dude, you need therapy." But the live action Batman films prevent that from happening.

Teen Titans, then The Batman, then Batman Brave and the Bold, and now this. They seem to like using him in quick succession. Though for what it's worth, they were all Dick Grayson, while this one should be Tim Drake following the comics..
... Robin has become a vital part of Batman's world. I think it would be weirder to NOT have him at least show up in a Batman series (hence the reason I still believe The Batman should have just waited a season and introduced Robin first).

Err... The t-shirt and jeans ARE his costume...

Bruce Wayne is the disguise. He is, heart and soul, Batman.
