Harry Potter and the Thread of General Discussion

Here is a new teaser trailer for Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows - Part I.

Part I is scheduled to open on November 19, 2010 (USA) and Part II on July 15, 2011 (USA).

(I searched and could not find a thread for the HP and TDH films, only the book.)

I still think it's retarded they're making two movies...but they'll still be getting my money in the end..so whatever, haha.

I don't know how much or if JK is still heavily involved with permitting changes and stuff, but if she was, she should have pushed for some of the little details she wrote to be revealed in past films, so they don't have to explain it DH.

A lot of the little deals will probably get butchered more since they have to figure out how to introduce it in the film.

I just hope in general it isn't as shoddy as Half-Blood Prince. They ruined that that book...and Alan didn't seem like he cared about Snape that time around.

Looking forward to it. Never read any of the books, but the movies are entertaining. Can't wait!

See, I kinda disagree, if it wasn't made into two books, think about how much would have to be cut out instead of what might be cut out. So much happens in the last book that it's hard to say what should be cute out.

LOL Guess Warner Bros. caught the leak. It'd only been out a few hours.

Really can't wait for the films, Half Blood Prince really did much better than OotP and especially freaking GoF imo (tho they shoulda made the ending more darker and have a funeral for Dumbledor).

They'll probably begin the Deathly Hallows with the funeral. The filmmakers couldn't get a bunch of high profile actors for just the ending.

IMO they should of done maybe the last 3, but definitely the last 2 into 2 movies. They just left out way too many things and changed things that shouldn't have been in the tHBP.

Well, I hope they do a better job at these two than they did with HBP. It was my favorite book, and the movie totally ruined it.
I will, of course, be seeing these two movies no matter what, and I know it.

No, they're not going to feature the funeral in DH. What we did have in the HBP film essentially was Dumbledore's funeral -- I personally thought they made the right decision in cutting it. While it would've been nice to have that scene as it was in the book, but in the context and pacing of the movie it just wouldn't feel right.

And I thought they made a sound decision in splitting the final book into two films. Even with the previous omissions made in previous movies, they would have to cut out a lot more either way to fit it in one movie. The footage looks really promising and very faithful to the novel -- something that some die-hards will be happy to see happen since the third movie came out.

That said, I'm surprised we got to see the footage almost a year earlier.

I don't think it is retarded. If they were to make it into one movie half the story would be cut out. There is way to much in the book to squeeze into 2.5 hours. Yes, it is annoying to have to pay twice to see the whole thing. But it will be better for the movie.

I just don't understand why the final movie is a two part.

When I saw watching 'Harry Potter And Goblet Of Fire' last night, it reminded me of when I first saw the movie.

Was anyone else shocked that Molfoy's father was a Death Eater? That was when I first saw that movie.

Because the book is quite big, and many of the plot ideas from previous books that were ignored in the films, have to be introduced some how because those ideas ended up being significant rather than just sub plots of the books.

Add in the actual plot from the last book itself...it makes sense, I'm just not a fan of it, and I do think it's stupid....they win one way or another since they'll be getting my money.

No, not at all. When they first introduced him in the books/films, he had DE written all over him.

True, you always had your suspicions that Lucius was a Death Eater, but never confirmation. When I read "Goblet of Fire" and he revealed himself in the graveyard, I seriously about flipped. About as much as I did when Snape showed the Minister his Dark Mark.

I did find something, possibly spoilerific if it does turn out to be true but if not, a big hoax. Allegedly, there is an art department member posting the changes and additions made in the DH movie on a HP forum. Some of the information told does gel with the changes HP fans know, like the changed location of the Ron/Hermione kiss and bits like that. Some of the added stuff is surprising, but I like it.

It could be fake, but I doubt trolls would go to lengths to release stuff as ridiculously detailed as the posts "dream_silently" is doing.

I've been debating what to read first post-graduation and now know where to start! I'm restarting the whole series with book 1!!! Then I'll move onto my politics! Hmm. Maybe it'll be on a Kindle (yes, I know that JKR doesn't officially have any ebooks, but that doesn't mean anything).
