I'd be surprised if someone like Saban just signed away his franchise without putting any clauses for exerting some degree of control.
He's exerting some degree of money, that's what matters.

He'll have as much control of the franchise as he did for the movie, somebody asking him "Do you like this or not? Kthxbye."

I remember reading that he regretted selling it then though.
That move was completely forced. The Fox Family debt was gigantic, so the fire sale to Disney saved him.

He was elated when Disney was done playing with one of his favorite toys.

Don't even ask him though. His opinion is irrelevant.

They probably respect his opinion, at least.

And I doubt they're as upset with him as some people in the fandom seem to be to consider his opinion completely irrelevant.

But there is some respect there given that he's the reason they're even working on a show like this in the first place.

I think it's kind of like the relationship of Star Wars fans with George Lucas. You have to respect the man (Lucas or Saban) for creating this thing that you love so much, but it feels like the scope of the franchise has outgrown one one's vision. Power Rangers grew and developed and matured for 18 years, and then Saban came back into the picture and what came after felt regressive.

To act like Haim Saban has nothing of value to say to Hasbro is incredibly silly.

I've said before: he has some value, at least on the production side of the show and working with Toei. When it comes to storytelling or the content of the show, that's when Hasbro is better off ignoring him.

Hasbro is a big boy and they know what they are doing. They've been around for longer than Haim has even been born. They don't need to take advice from someone who ruined and held back the franchise.

For most things, yes. But Hasbro has little-to-no experience with working on a show as unique as Power Rangers. They've never had to negotiate with another company to get footage from a TV show to frankenstein into their own. They've never had to work with Plex to manufacture their own suits. They've barely done live-action, and tokusatsu at that. They have to work with companies to get supplies for explosives, stunt actors, etc.

Could they do most of this on their own? Probably. But Haim Saban is there and has some experience with doing all these things (usually for cheap) and it doesn't hurt to have him there if he wants to be.

And Haim has been making TV far longer than Hasbro has ever even thought about it. Hasbro's a toy company first and foremost and this is their very first foray into live action television. There's a reason why the bulk of their Power Rangers staff is Saban staff. They want input of people who have worked with the brand before.

And say what you want about the show, but Saban has launched the FRANCHISE into greater relevance than it has had since 1996. Just because you don't like the show doesn't mean it's valid to ignore their accomplishments.

When people would say the show was most credible in writing quality was under Saban. Every movie ever produced was while under Saban. The show returning from cancellation was under Saban. The ongoing comic book was under Saban. The board games were under Saban.

Haim Saban pushed the franchise forward at every point in its history.

Ok let me rephrase it. If Saban wants to give advice to Hasbro on merchandise and toys and all that jazz then go right ahead. That stuff I really don't care about. But when it comes to stuff that involves storytelling Saban should not be involved in the slightest.

Key words. Don't say franchise unless you mean franchise, brands are larger than any single extension of them.

It has never been stated what Haim Saban consultation will or won't include, or to what degree that consultation will be followed, so you reading into it is unnecessary and panicky.

That's only because Disney didn't care about the franchise the way did. Power Rangers was really the only thing Saban had going for it with any major success.

Saban is a billionaire and was under no obligation to throw his hat back in the ring of children's television. Here's the big thing, most media companies are only known for one thing unless you start buying up other successful things as Disney does & Hasbro does.

Saban bought Power Rangers back because he wanted to prove that it is a franchise that has viability in the modern age and he did. That was the mission statement for Power Rangers from the very beginning of the Saban buy back before Saban threw their hat into any other venture and they held true to that mission and he flipped it for $550M to a leading brand manager in the field.

Nobody else was giving Power Rangers a shot. There wasn't a bidding war, Saban got most of their toku properties back for pennies. So it's not like someone else was going to step up to the plate. Without Saban the show would have died in 2009 and we would have none of the positive things the Saban buy back has allowed.

Which is still to be applauded.

There was big money Disney left on the table that he picked up. Bottom line.

Dude's a billionaire. You don't get there without multiple successes.

Barring him not just making PR a verified success and keeping it going for years after its initial launch? He's had his hands in lots of media conglomerates, including Univision.
