Ghostbusters 3 to Feature “Lots Of Cadets, Boys and Girls”
Posted on Tuesday, April 14th, 2009 at 12:22 am by: Peter Sciretta

What we know so far: Office scribes Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky are writing a screenplay for Ghostbusters 3, which will bring most of the original cast members back in a mentor capacity, and introduce a whole new generation of Ghostbusters. Harold Ramis insists that “everybody” from the film’s original cast will return, but some, like Sigourney Weaver are still hesitant about returning. Dan Aykroyd teases a few new details in a chat with MTV :

“There will be a whole new generation that has to be trained, and that whole new generation will be led by an individual who you’ll all love when you meet him but I’m not going to tell you anything yet,” teased Aykroyd. “They’ll be lots of cadets, boys and girls, who’ll be learning how to use the psychotron, the accelerators and all the new stuff, the neuron splitter, which is going to be the interplaner, interceptor and all these great tools that they’re going to have, to flip from dimension to dimension.”

It sounds like the Ghostbusters won’t just be passing the torch over to a new team, but possibly training a larger group? I might be reading too much into what Aykroyd said, specifically the phrase “lots of cadets”. But it definitely doesn’t seem like there is just one or two new members, but instead an large group.
Would be sweet if this new leader of the new group of busters is oscar, i mentioned this a few times over on shh boards. I would love to see oscar be a buster now which he would be in his early 20s.

I was just over at moviehole, and they got some new tidbits about the 3rd movie script developments:
http://www.moviehole.net/200919150-m...s-ghostbusters
Milano and Dushku as Ghostbusters!?
Author: Clint Morris Date: Tuesday, May 19th, 2009 Time: 7:47 pm

Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky's script for "Ghostbusters 3", now sitting atop of a bunch of binded beauties in Amy Pascal's office, apparently sees the original crew (Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson) training a five-member "new generation" team with several female members.

Yep, you heard right - - female Ghostbusters!

And who does Aykroyd picture in the russet jumpsuits?

Well, he's got two casting ideas - Alyssa Milano, who voices a character in the upcoming "Ghostbusters" video-game (and it wouldn't at all surprise me if part of her deal to do the game included being promised a role in the inevitable second sequel), is in with a shot, as is science-fiction favourite Eliza Dushku, from "Buffy" and "Dollhouse".

"I think they're amazing", Aykroyd tells The Los Angeles Times.

And might we see Sigourney Weaver busting ghosts this time, too?

The actor doesn't say, only that Weaver has officially agreed to do the film. And seems she was much easier to entice into the movie than big-time Oscar Winner Bill Murray - but Aykroyd wasn't going to make the movie without him.

"I don't put not making the third movie on Billy. We can't do that. I've been very busy. Harold's been busy, Ivan's been busy. And a third script really didn't coalesce properly. And Billy, you can't blame an artist for not wanting to do the same thing again. He did two of them, for God's sake. Although I'm the biggest cheerleader as the originator of the concept but I've never begrudged Billy not doing a third movie. I never said he held it up or that he refused. Hey, listen, he's an artist. You can't force somebody into it."

Murray was originally asked to do another Ghostbusters in the 90s, when Aykroyd presented him with a script called "Ghostbusters go to Hell", which he'd written himself. Murray, not shy about admitting his reluctance to reprise Peter Venkman, later said he never read the script.

"I'm sorry he never read my third draft because I thought it was pretty good but, look, now we're at a point that there's a story that he can accept and that's going to work, and I think we're going to be in production fairly soon", says Aykroyd. "We could be in production by winter."

Unfortunately, says Aykroyd, original "Ghostbusters" director Ivan Reitman won't be directing. He's "too busy as a mega-producer" to take it on, says the former Blues Brother. And since that's the case, Aykroyd's hoping co-star Harold Ramis (who since "Ghostbusters" has gone on to become quite the filmmaker) might direct. ‘'He has a lot of things going on, but it would be wonderful to see him do it."
Interesting idea if they do decide to go with some females, i am not against it as long as the guys/girls in the new group have great chemistry like the original group had.

I've got mixed feelings about this. To flip from dimension to dimension?

Just give us the game and then let the franchise DIE. I've seen too many old favorites bastardized already.

One question that's always bothered me ... what does Bill Murray hand Dan Akroyd when he says, "You've ... you've earned it,"?

I dunno what it is and I've never been able to find out ...

Not sure if this is news, but this article states the desire for Dushku and Milano to suit up, plus says that Murray has agreed to come back.

Reitman to direct?

http://www.cinematical.com/2010/01/1...hostbusters-3/

Good news, everybody! Whilst doing the press line at the National Board of Review's red carpet event, MTV's Josh Horowitz volleyed a series of Ghostbusters 3 questions off of producer Ivan Reitman and ended up getting a nice chunk of actual news instead of further conjecture. When asked about the script, Ivan confirmed that Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky have already turned in a completed draft for part 3 and that a new draft is currently being worked through, much to the delight of all involved. When asked about a potential start date, Ivan revealed that he hopes to start shooting it within the next year.
