The episodes they direct tend to not have much of the actors' presence, though. Just focus on other characters that week or make a flashback episode, even with younger Kara.

Somehow I'm not surprised they'd get rid of the skirt.

First her hair now the skirt. I like the suit but her hair is horrible.

Isn't that just the space suit with a cape and without the helmet?

It's okay, but the original is so old now that it has become iconic. Weird move.

To be fair, Oliver and Barry's costumes have changed more than once so far. So no surprise Kara gets a change.

If she seems Kate again in this suit, I kinda want a comment by Kate about her ditching the skirt and copying her.

Yeah, those changes were to make them more comic accurate. This version is further removed.

Who the heck is Kate?

back before the show premiered I thought the skirt was going to be the first thing to go, so it was a bit of a shock that the suit was so comics-accurate to begin with...

Whoever's been designing the Arrowverse costumes in recent years, I would respectfully hope they look for a new line of work. Because this design just isn't hitting it.

I have no objections to Kara gaining some pants, but removing the red from that area not leaves the whole body as just a big, monochromatic sea of blue (it's the same problem whenever they try to redesign Superman without the underpants. There's not enough color between the knees and the chest then for it to have any visual interest). The seams on the body don't follow any natural form, and the differing materials on it look haphazard. And they seem to have given her those awkward, gaudy clasps holding her cape on, similar to the Arrowverse Superman, rather than leaving the cape to neatly and cleanly tuck into the collar of the suit. It's a clunky solution to replace an elegant one.

It isn't just from the show. It is very common for them to try and reinvent the wheel in the comics. The more I've seen the pic the more I have started to dislike the suit. Mostly because there isn't something breaking up the blue. Red gauntlets with maybe a red S on the belt would help. Even the costume before had red throughout the suit with the sewing having red thread through the blue. Maybe it will look better in action and closer up. It could be that lighting in that pic is bad and made things wash out darker than it is in the actual suit. Lighter blue would have even been a nice touch to break the darker blue up. Brighter red as well maroon is so Superman Returns. I want vibrant colors. This is a Super not a Bat. They have the pattern for Red Daughter why didn't they just that pattern and do a red in the dark black areas? In some way to honor Red Daughter.

Regarding Supergirl's new outfit and hairstyle, to quote Mr. Horse from Ren and Stimpy, "No Sir, I don't like it!"

Eh, I don't have a problem with the new suit. There's still plenty of color there in the boots, cap, symbol, and belt. It all looks fine, I don't really get people's complaint about "all the blue". No doubt if they had say...put red panels into the legs of the suit or something people would just complain about that as well. Though I will say, I don't care for the bangs. They just...meh. Kind of make her look older than she is. Actually it'd be funny if what we're seeing is a future Kara from like Mia's point in time. Unlikely, but amusing thought. Really though, the costume itself looks fine. I'll likely get use to the bangs, though it immediately made me think of this youtube video I watched recently. Can't remember what it was about, but at one point the person brought up something about how female characters always hit that point where they decide they want bangs and then realize they should never have done bangs. Wish I could remember what it was...but irrelevant really. Is what it is.

The blue isn't broken up the problem could be the shot with lighting. However using darker colors you need to have contrast in it. Dark blue with maroon don't really pop to the eye. You need that bold color of the blues and red. Superman's suits get torn apart when it is darker tone like this picture for a reason. There could be red stitching like they had on her other costume. The red boarder would work for the different panels up close.

There was nothing wrong with the skirt, and I think the new suit looks really ugly. Hope it's temporary

Yeah, costume is not aesthetically pleasing. If you are going to give Kara pants, I would it rather be something like the Injustice costume.

But the Injustice Supergirl is still wearing just blue. She just lacks a real belt. And half her boots are blue, but otherwise specifically her pants are just blue, no different than what we see here basically. Okay there are two tones of blue, but don't really see how that makes any real difference.
