GARO Franchise: This, Too, is Jinga's Fault

http://henshinjustice.com/2012/10/22...how-is-coming/

This probably Deserves a thread of its own. There's going to be a new Garo series! It's going to star a newcomer to tokusatsu alongside Junya Ikeda, otherwise known as Gai / Gokai Silver! Keita Amemiya, the director and creator of the concept, said that Makai Senki would be the final series to star the original cast. I just didn't think we would get a new series announced so soon.

Maybe it's just going to adapt some of those short stories that have nothing to do with the series besides the basic setting. I want to see some of those Knight-on-Knight duels in live-action.

So it seems the rumor of a third series without the original cast turned out to be true. Very interesting. And very appropriate. Makai Senki was a very fitting end to their era, it's time to focus on a new story and a new set of characters. I can only guess the main character may be a descendant of Kouga (since a Knight's armor is passed down through generations)?

Color me, at the very least, intrigued.

I swear I read that as Wataru Kurenai and thought how appropriate it was.

Nice looking guy.

Wow. We have sequelitis issues with movies and video games currently and now add in a TV series that continues to get sequels. Lol...This sounds interesting though and I love Garo so I will definitely check it out.

Oooookay. Far too early for a Garo Type-G now.

Why? They could very well just be trying to set up a continuing franchise, just for older audiences. Clearly Garo is doing well, and when things do well, you continue them.

Why is it too early for a Garo successor show? The stories with the existing characters have been told. They had plenty of focus over the past years. It's time to move forward. Cameos and such might be nice, but more and more full stories featuring the same cast over and over again will eventually get very old. They've had their time to shine. The franchise needs new blood.

And by the way, you are aware that the first Garo series premiered in October 2005, right? That's literally seven years ago. SEVEN years of the same core characters. And that's not even including the upcoming movie. It's time for them to move on.

I hope the actor who was Gai in Gokaiger won't be annoying again

Telling a story where the previous cast and the previous seasons are history/legend is something that has been done before. What Garo has going for it is that the previous cast (mostly) loves the franchise. If they want to have a story with lots of flashbacks to the original series/Makai Senki, the actors look to part to do those flashbacks. If Kouga dies/ascends in Blue Dragon, his spirit can appear here without having to explain why he's now 50. This is the perfect time to shoot footage of the 'original era', before everyone gets old and separated.

I just hope that it's not too GARO-centric. Keita's created a large, amazing world that the Golden Knight is just a part of. Seeing more of it should be fun.

Man I really do love this. It all started as just a single 25-episode series and, after the "happy ending" of Beast of the White Night, I used to assume that was all we were ever going to get. It's really great to see that Garo has grown into an ongoing franchise - can't get enough of this thing!

I'm thinking we might see some characters from the novels show up in this new series. There's a new Garo Pachinko machine out that features the Makai Knight tournament along with three new knights, including Yaiba, the first female knight, who happens to be a character straight out of one of the novels.

Heh, not really surprised there would be a female Knight show up somewhere sooner or later. Though you say she's from one of the novels... I don't suppose it was Rekka then? I always figured if there was ever a female Knight introduced she would be the most likely choice.

It looks like there's going to be a fan event or convention of sorts on March 23rd in Japan called Makai kNight where the cast of the new series is going to be revealed, and the new lead character's name seems to be Ryouga.

Oh god, new suits everywhere. I think the title relates to Ryuga having lost his "radiance", hence the new Garo suit looking like this.

Truthfully the armor looks kinda badass like that. And i like that they changed parts of the armor too besides the color to make it stand out more from all those who had the title of Garo. Namely the shoulder pads and arm greaves from whats shown in the picture.

And hell yes a Red Knight (played by Junya Ikeda), and a knight that uses a bow and arrow!!! April can't come sooner.

And hey at least Zaruba is back.
