I am just hoping for a totally different kind of tone and feel for this show. You could do some fun things with the family dynamic and not be so dependent on formulaic angsty relationship will they, won't they garbage.

cautiously optimistic about this.
Exactly. I know nothing of the character really, but I liked the premise for the show when info first started coming up; ex-hero who had given up the life, has a family, all that and gets dragged back into the costumed life to help his family and all. It really sounded like there was room for a different tone that would be nice. We'll see what happens.

Cress was alright on Hart of Dixie, but I'm not digging him as a choice. Where as most actors can hide behind masks and voice changes, Cress is really tall. We could be looking at a Shaq in 'Steel' problem, where this 6'5" black man running around in costume and people seeing and automatically knowing that it's Jefferson.

Nafessa Williams and China Anne McClain have been cast as Thunder and Lightning respectively.

I think the best solution is just to keep Black Lightning standalone at first, then if the ratings are well, to reveal that Black Lightning has been on Supergirl's Earth the whole time, and thus can be part of crossovers.
That's fair. They shouldn't go out of their way to connect it from the get-go, but it would be kinda weird for this one to not have ANY connection to any of the others. I know GOTHAM exists on its own, but Berlanti has nothing to do with that one, and it's so stylistically different and just wouldn't work based on its premise. But Black Lightning seems like it could potentially fit right in, so why not, ya know?

I'm more worried that they'll rush the two into costumes. We already had James on Supergirl be made into Guardian which is still odd, and I can see them doing something similar here instead of just building the story and characters cause they feel they need to build up a group of costumes on the show.

First look at Cress Williams as the title character. https://www.comicbookmovie.com/tv/dc...series-a150019

Well, at least they got some of it right. No idea what's up with that mask, though.

The mask is just unnecessarily stylized, really. A simple domino mask would do, not... goggles.

Go Go... Black Lightning Ranger?

That mask is hideous. I usually have a good suspension of disbelief, but that mask would not work at all realistically.

Oh...oh that is just unfortunate...

It wouldn't be as bad if it weren't for the mask and those...circuits under the armor. But...damn he looks silly :/

I was hoping the costume would have more black than blue. Otherwise, he might as well be named Blue Lightning

This makes no sense, when his costume in the comics also has a lot of blue. Just because he's called "Black Lightning" doesn't literally mean his costume is black.

Yes, he's had costumes that were more blue than black and I didn't like those either

This is a nice ratio. So is this. Or this.

Maybe if they could decide what color his powers are (I've seen him generate black, blue, and even yellow lightning). Then the name would make sense regardless of what color his costume is. Otherwise, it just seems like he got the name because he's a black superhero with lightning powers (and...given the decade he was created in, I actually wouldn't be surprised if that was the case)

The goggle-mask is kind of odd, but I don't think it looks hideous. Overall the suit doesn't look back, and I'm still curious about the show. The premise at least is interesting for what'll hopefully be a new angle on the superhero TV show genre.

I guess I'm in the minority on the board that thinks it looks epic. (except maybe the goggles.)

Although, I didn't read the comics, so I can speak for how "accurate" it is.

It says the series is being filmed in Atlanta for the pilot? Are they planning on moving it to Vancouver later along with all the other DC/CW shows? Unless they're planning to let this one stand on it's own...

I honestly have no problem with the goggles. They'd probably look better a bit smaller, but they're fine.

I just hope this show has the street-level relatability and morality that Arrow abandoned early on.

Not too surprising, it's just a pilot. Everwood's pilot was filmed...well can't remember where. When it got picked up they had to move production. So it's probably a thing that happens.

They'll attempt to but since this is the CW it'll get murky after a few episodes. It would be nice if the show had a similar tone like Netflix's Luke Cage but I don't see that happening.
