As I see it, Wizard's "specials" are just a small revival of the "all Riders team up for a big final story" that happened quite a bit back in Showa. Probably due to the 15th Rider and whatnot; it just happened that Wizard happened to get it due to being the Rider just ending.

I'm contemplating a rewatch of the W movie (A to Z) before I start OOO next weekend but not sure if I should; want to probably due to the Returns specials I'll be watching during this watch but not sure if it's really necessary other than as a reminder. (or to remove the bad taste of Ryuki from my mouth)

I really want to re-watch the endings of Kiva, W, and OOO. Mainly because I like them, partially because I'm completely bored of Agito and I need a refresher of Kamen Riders I liked so I can have the motivation to continue.

Does anyone actually like KR Nadeshiko? As far as Movie Riders go I've heard very little talk about her despite a reappearance. She seems so bland and uninspired.

I think she's adorable, but other than that there isn't much to her character.

Doesn't it seem like Yuki could have been Nadeshiko? She loves space, she loves what Fourze is. That suit would have been perfect for her. It almost seems like wasted potential.

I'm okay with Nadeshiko's existence. That's really it. I like that she's a movie rider, but being the exact same thing as Fourze, just less of it make her not really that special. If she used more than just Rocket maybe she would have stood out more. Compare her to Aqua, who got less focus but (to me) stood out a lot more. I'd much rather see Aqua return than Nadeshiko again.

I have a few friends who like her, and I can get nothing more out of them other than "Look at her! She's adorable! She's an idol (I think?)!" Crap like that.

She has no character at all. I think people like her because of her physical appearance, and because of shipping material (even if it is crap material).

Rewatching Kabuto for the first time in five years, and I am presently eighteen episodes in. (The next two-parter is the Sasword introduction.)

...this show frustrates me so much, but dammit, Drake is all sorts of awesome. Kagami and Daisuke all day.

I like Nadeshiko, for the most part, in Megamax. And I was very happy to see her get a return appearance in the next movie with Wizard. But I hated everything they did with her, and I just generally resent the tone they keep trying to play with her.

Basically, she's there to be The Girl. Everything about her that isn't just copied straight from Fourze himself is designed to draw extreme attention to the fact that she's a chick, in some of the most cliche ways possible. She's cute and bouncy, she literally attacks people with her erogenous zones, while the camera keeps staring at her thighs, and of course she's Gentaro's love interest (who just flies away in the end, for some reason).

I think the best thing about her is that she doesn't completely die, since that too is an oft-repeated trope of female Riders.

Well, baby steps.

Mayu was a huge step in the right direction, yes?

I wouldn't say huge, but yeah, it's a stepping stone toward something better.

The next female Rider could do with a costume that is really her own, not based on some dude, and with its own weapons and powers.

Actually, there is no "based on a dude" for Mayu. ALL of the Mage suits are identical except for coloring. There is no "correct" user, male or female, either. It's the Riotrooper of Wizard. it's very decidedly gender neutral.

Hell, look at IXA, passed around every which way. There's nothing about it that changed when the girls wore it, no skirt appeared and it didn't become more slender or the chest plate grow room for boobs. It's the most gender neutral suit of them all.

The main difference is that IXA was used for women... twice, only once in the show's continuity (that I recall?) and is mostly known for its male users, Mage has (probably) just as many if not more female users as male, counting the movie, and Mayu was Mage in the show for far longer than the male users.

Yes, and I call semantics, as it achieves the same purpose. It effectively says that it's not her that you have to root for, but rather, the costume itself, which could be anyone. As if we need some kind of out for liking a Kamen Rider with a female inside. It would not be surprising if that was the entire reason the "everybody transforms" thing was conceived in the first place, as this was a good excuse to stick Mayu in there eventually, without having to explain to executives why we're wasting so much time on her. Same with ShinkenRed. Same with KyoryuViolet.

I look forward to the time when a female Rider is herself and herself alone, and doesn't die, or turn evil, or disappear half an hour after her first battle. It's gonna be sweeeeet.

Er.. Mayu fits all of those. She didn't die, turn evil, disappear, and was THE Mage for the show. She transformed repeatedly and fought alongside Wizard and Beast several times. The guys only transformed twice, and they were much less willing except for the finale.

It's worth noting that unlike past years, the show never once claimed or hinted (YET, there' still 53/53) that Magic Land is related to the main series. The only Mages that are confirmed to exist in any form are the three we see.

EDIT: Adding on to all of that, the show ends with Mayu as Mage becoming their city's resident Rider in Haruto's absence.

"Herself and herself alone" meaning there's no one else like her...

When the men became Mage unwillingly, one of them quits immediately after and the other more or less leaves town... Also, I edited my post just as you replied to me. >>;;

Another plus for Mayu as Mage is that, unlike Nadeshiko, she's actually serious as Mage. She's not depicted as weaker than the men (hell, the opposite if anything; she is the ONLY of the wizards to receive proper magic training), doesn't have a fighting style that screams TEEHEE, LOOK AT ME, I'M A GIRL <3 <3 <3 <3... Actually, except for that weird twirl, her gender is very... muted? in her actions.

EDIT- You edited, like, sixteen times. -_-

You act as if I said Mayu was awful. I like her. I don't like the logistical hoops we jumped through to give her the interchangeable Rider identity she held. It reads as something that was done in spite of a negative view of prominent female Riders, rather than just a good story. My statement was about hoping that the next female Rider doesn't need any of that, and doesn't have other people using her same suit/powers first. She's just the next Rider, no pretense or excuses required. That's not Mayu, no matter how awesome she is.

Mayu's the iconic Mage, just as DekaRed in the movie was the Captain and everyone else was his underlings. Mayu leads her team of Mages, she uses the Special Ring that uses fire, the chief element, instead of Land. She also has her own repeated catchphrase: "Ware no toki yo."

Ha, it only just hit me that Ban, DekaRed became Captain of the Fire Squad in Dekaranger. Fire Squad, Fire element, Captain Mage. Nice one Toei.

Mayu may not have the Captain's cape, but she's definitely the lead wizard.
