I love anime. I hate most dubs though. Example: One Piece. The dub sucks.

I'm watching Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 now and it is one of my faves. It was good at first but around episode 10 it kicks into overdrive. The way the story is revealed keeps you coming back for more, the voice acting is great, the music is good, and the action sequences rock.

I love Samurai X. And Ruroni Kenshin is my new love.

Nothing ever tops the original Ghost in the Shell movie in my book, though. Love the movies and the series. I really enjoy Fullmetal Alchemist, too.

I am also so happy that Adult Swim is showing Paranoia Agent and has brough back S-Cry-Ed on weeknights, as well. And of course, I love Inu-Yasha.

Anime rocks.

That's true, but a thing I think should be asked is that is it better for actors in dubs to personalize their roles, or should they just imitate the Japanese actor/actress?

I don't have the Anime expertise as many of you probally do. I love Cowboy Bebop. Evangelion was cool, bu twisted as hell. I tried to watch RahXephon, but stopped before it got interesting (but I was watching it on G4, so maybe that was for the best) The clips Ive seen of Gungrave looked cool. Eureka 7, Kiddy Grade, Chrono Crusade and Burst Angel looked interesting, but I don't know if they are good.

I'd say it depends, Japanese dubs do put out their fair share of crap.

I loved both Mai Hime and My Outome. I loved how despite radically different stories, the cross-over characters basically retained their same personalities.

Gungrave was pretty cool from what I saw, but I don't recall seeing much of the "present" storyline. I think I saw all of the "how they got to this point" story though.

Read or Die was awesome and I have the movie on tape.

Cowboy Beepob, despite seeing the series enough to sing the ending theme in Japanese even though about 2 years back they stopped putting the entire song at the end, will always catch my attention when it's on.

I'm a sucker for Vegeta and crazy ass power ups, so I'll watch DBZ from time to time. DSA was pretty cool if a bit on the short side.

Both Full Metal Panics were awesome in their own rights.

Full Metal Alchemist was pretty cool too. Didn't care much for the ending though.

Air Master is pretty cool, can't wait to see some more episodes of that.

InnuYasha's pretty fun.

I own all three (I think it's only 3) tapes of Samurai X and though not as violent I like the t.v. spin off as well.

Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie is what made me search out more anime in the first place and while not as good, I still enjoy the Street Fighter V series.

Voltron was the king of old school goodness and I'd watch that again in a heartbeat.

I loved the first two seasons of Zoids and liked the third one. Couldn't really get into Fuzors though.

Any season of Digimon gets a view from me.

If I 'm really bored, I'll watch Pokemon (like I did the other day and kinda dug see Brock's mom and dad be so goofy).

I miss Rave Master because I was really getting into it and I'm not sure if the last episode I saw was the last episode and even then I still want to see the whole series and catch the episodes I missed the first time. That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

Personally, and this is just me, I've yet to encounter a dub that's so bad that I couldn't enjoy the show. I mean I watch old Channel 5 Kung Fu, so dubs don't matter to me. What does bother me is when people (and so far no one in this thread) hate a dub because of "characters that grunt or say Hiya" Maybe I'm watching the wrong Japanese version, but people in fighting animes usually grunt and sometimes a lot more annoyingly than in the English dub.

Other way around, the TV series came first. The OVAs were a half assed attempt at animating the Enshi arc of the manga.

I enjoy animation.

I just wish American animation would reach what it used to be and European animation would actualy start again beyond one or two studios.

Japanese animation is still going strong, even if it is the season for fillers and remakes.

Korean is good, though I can't seem to get into most of them.

Chinese would be better if they would get off the great wars, or at least move up to the War of the Three Kingdoms.

Houshin Engi/Soul Hunter's pretty cute.

As is Great Teacher Onizuka, but that's mostly because I'm a Triad/Yakuza trip right now.

Since it's almost July and we now have this thread I present to you the (very old) July to October 2006 Anime season list. They were from a blog I forgot which one

HachiKuro II - well, duh. More Honey and Clover SHOULD be a good thing, unless it gets a bit stale.

Otogijushi Akazukin - I rather shamefully enjoyed the original OVA, so I’m quite looking forward to this; even with an extra stereotype for a heroine (Sleeping Beauty, or Ibarahime, who is obviously the “sullen” one to go with the “genki” Red Riding Hood and “ojou-sama” Snow White) I hope things will still be enjoyable.

Project Blue Chikyuu SOS - I like the art. That’s all.

Bokura ga Ita - I LOVE LOVE LOVE the manga (bittersweet shoujo with no ludicrous sex or amazing contrivances = WIN), and a collaboration between the Fruits Basket team (AKITAROH DAICHI!) and Artland (MUSHISHI!) means if this is anything less than awesome I will weep.

Kemonojime - Masaaki Yuasa + Madhouse + freaky sounding story about a hunter and a half-human monster thing? Sounds pretty damn cool.

Chevalier - cross-dressing sword-fighting French revolutionaries! It’s Utena with non-psychological demons and a gender reversal! With Tow Ubakata writing and IG animating I am massively, massively excited about this show. No doubt it’ll be horribly disappointing…

Might Watch A Bit Of

FLAG - sounds a bit too real for me (I like my escapism, dammit) but the premise about war photography etc. sounds quite interesting.

Binbai Shimai Monogatari - I actually don’t want to watch it, but the power of Maaya Sakamoto fanboyism demands at least a first episode watch. Watching impoverished girls get through Hardships with spunk and determination has the potential to be disturbingly moe, though, and a bit like a supposedly “heartwarming” Saturday night drama on ITV that actually puts everyone who watches it to sleep…

Demashita! Powerpuff Girls Z - I loved the original Powerpuff Girls, but this is undoubtedly going to be nothing like that, and as such I will no doubt be rather disappointed.

Mamotte! Lollipop - I should have learnt by now that I can no longer stomach Nakayoshi/Ribon-aged shoujo, but still, I keep trying.

Koisuru Tenshi Angelique ~Kokoro no Mezameru Toki~ - no doubt this will be even worse than the sluggish and aggravating Harukanaru Toki no Naka De, based on a game by the same creators. But… Satelight’s animating it. I have to see if they do anything interesting with it.

Innocent Venus - looks like low-budget dark (i.e. no money for colours) sci-fi with mecha; could be interesting, but I have no idea what it’s really going to be like.

Night Head Genesis - a friend of mine owns a volume of the manga for this; as far as I understand it it’s about insane bishounen making people’s heads explode with psychic powers and running away from asylums. Yay!

Care Not A Jot For, But If Time Permits Will Suffer An Episode

Tsuyokisu CoolxSweet - I hate tsundere characters since Shana showed that unbelievable characterisation is now a fetish. Ergo, this show’s existence annoys me.

Zero no Tsukaima - oh look, a useless no-hope male high-school student gets a busty super-powered girlfriend! I never saw that coming! What a shame I won’t be watching this fascinating sounding show as I’ll be too busy suffocating on my own sarcasm!

Coyote Ragtime Show - UFO Table do Futakoi Alternative again in the Wild West. ***.

Muteki Kanban Musume - I’m sure this’ll be ZANY and FUN COOKING COMEDY or something, but…not for me.

Tonagura - Starchild. HATE.

NHK ni Youkoso! - I despise this manga because I am actually disgusted by the protagonists; maybe the terrifying hikkikomori/otaku lifestyle hits too close to home or something, but I find their wallowing in degradation and cliche pitiful and no humour in their ero-game creating, squallid existences. Something of an odd reaction to what’s ostensibly a comedy, but I just plain didn’t like the first volume of the manga - with GONZO animating, surely things can only get worse…

Chokotto Sister - do I even need to explain why I won’t be watching this show?

Naikaku Kenryoku Nanzai Kyousei Torishimari-kan Zaizen Joutarou - I’ve only mentioned this because it has an amusingly long title. It’s some kind of government/political wrongdoing show, and no doubt the five salarymen who are still awake at 3 in the morning will watch it, but not I, my friends, not I.

Meanwhile, I have a backlog the size of Jupiter to get through. But it’s too hot to watch anime, so instead I’m going to sit outside in the sun and read most of the time; no doubt the backlog’s not going to shrink very fast…

http://www.flag20xx.net/ - FLAG: This doesn’t look like my cup of tea, with the realistic art, and very CG mechs.
http://www.hachikuro.net/ - Honey & Clover II: Oh man, I’m expecting really big things from this one. I know he’s important, but enough of boring Takemoto! I need me some painful Mayama-Ayumi-Rika dorama!
http://www.toei-anim.co.jp/tv/binboushimai/ - Binbou Shimai Monogatari: Poor sisters living along and delivering newspapers… sounds kinda boring-slice-of-life mixed in with depression.
http://www.toei-anim.co.jp/tv/ppgz/ - Demashita! PowerPuff Girls Z: *pukes in mouth* I can forgive having an exclamation mark in the title, of course, but also adding a “Z” to the end is too much.
http://www.akazukin.konami.jp/ - Otogi Jushi Akazukin: OMG, this looks too cute, and it’s just my type, RPG! Duran, load chibi cartridge! The easygoing 3 OAV commitment helps, too.
http://shop.kodansha.jp/bc/comics/eizou/#anime - Mamotte! Lollipop: Looks like typical shoujo romance fare. There aren’t that many details up so far.
http://www.tsuyokiss.jp/ - Tsuyokisu: Haha, this has the potential to be a fun watch or just really bad. I wonder if “Cool x Sweet” is like “Gun x Sword”, but you know I’ll watch it just cause that schoolgirl has a katana! This series is apparently based on a PS2 game, and the site declares that it is “Tsundere TVanimation”.
http://www.wowow.co.jp/anime/taiyo/ - Taiyo no Mokushiroku Special - Nihon Bundan: Another realistic, depressing series. I’ll pass.
http://www.wowow.co.jp/anime/kemono/ - Kemonozume Sakaba: Not much information up, but the lone image screams Blood+Witchblade.
http://www.chevalier.tv/ - Chevalier Special: Hot noblewoman by day, badass swashbuckler by night.
http://www.projectblue.jp/index02.php - Project BLUE Chikyuu SOS: Looks like there will be some large scale galactic battles, which usually aren’t my thing. Production values look high.
http://www.bokuragaita.com/ - Bokura ga Ita: I like that the art reminds me of Honey & Clover.
http://www.zero-tsukaima.com/ - Zero no Tsukaima: This one seems like it will be chock full of witchy harem action. Whether it is good-stupid like Magikano or bad-stupid like most harem shows remains to be seen. I like the art, though, since it feels like what Negima would be like if Evangeline were the main character.
http://www.gamecity.ne.jp/neoromance/tv/ange/ - Koi Suru Tenshi Angelique ~Kokoro Mezameru Toki~: I think I saw this before, only when I watched it, it was called “Fushigi http://www.starchild.co.jp/special/tonagra/ - Tonagura!: I’m sure some people will enjoy this series, but it looks a little too dumb and cliche for my tastes.
http://www.chocosis.com/ - Chokotto Sister: This art looks poor. I give it 5 episodes before you can’t even tell what you’re looking at.
http://www.innocent-v.com/ - Innocent Venus: Innocent until proven guilty anyway. Some of it looks a bit generic, but a mysterious show with good production values could make this like a slick Big-O.
http://www.boiledeggs.com/chojin/takimotoinfo5.html - N・H・K ni Youkoso: I like the art, but the idea of broadcasting super moe anime to turn everyone hikikomori tickles my fancy! Damn those evil corporate bastards!
http://www.ufotable.com/coyote/ - Coyote Ragtime Show: Looks like another in the line of Cowboy Bebop-Trigun-Gun x Sword types. At the very least, it will probably look good.
http://www.nighthead-genesis.jp/ - Night Head Genesis: This series will probably be really creepy. The website is ultra-slick.
http://www.seed-stargazer.net/ - Gundam SEED C.E.73 -STARGAZER-: I feel like I finally got out of a bad relationship, but then the phone just rang asking for a booty call. Do I answer? And how many episodes until Kira comes back and takes over the main character position? I’m eager to see what mask designs they bust out this time.
http://www.onimaruhanten.com/ - Muteki Kanbanmusume: The first thing that pops into my head is that the production values will fade quickly. Chopsticks as weapons would be pretty cool, though.
http://www.kids-station.com/minisite/gyagumanga/ - Masuda Kosuke Gekijo Gag Manga Biyori 2nd set: Supah fugly!
http://www.comicbunch.com/ - Naikaku Kenryoku Hanzai Kyousei Torishimarikan Zaizen Jotaro: The long title is clearly compensating.

ps. I'll post one every three months...I'm glad that their Animating Chokotto it's a very good Manga so I expect a lot of the anime...

There are also the dubs that some people say are better than the original Japanese. Most of my friends say they like the Bebop dub more than the original Japanese. And though I haven't really seen EVA in Japanese, I saw a clip of Asuka speaking German and it was more believable in the dub.
