Whoa! I could barely make out the lines. Had to look at your drawing to even see it lol! But now I see it plain as day.

I really want a version of that coin. I love the green color.

Interestingly, at least in these shots, the coin doesnt seem to have any of the weathering or even paint in the circuit designs, which is why you can barely see them (though you can ALMOST make out the largest rectangle shape over the dragon's cheek in the first pic). Its completely clean.

The gold shapes swirled around it also share a strong resemblance to the morpher shape on the rangers suits, a curling iris going around the coin. Though in the case of the suits, that swirl pattern covers most of the coin aside form the exposed center.

While I'm sure it'll have the circuit pieces... the photo is so blurry... kinda interesting that it varies from the others. And good catch on the iris deal.

I've been sitting on that thought for a while now, the dragon in the coin I mean. At least you've brought it up now, and that's exactly the same thing I see in the coin as well.

Question though; how easy was it to crack open the toy Morphers coins?

Not easy. Its glued all the way around and in 4 pins.

So I'd like to say I did this on purpose, but I'm glad I didn't make my coin a full 2.5 inches and just a hair smaller...

Lol! I was going to try that as soon as the test coin got here. It actually looks really good in there!

Good call on the size. That's exactly how I would like to display them.

So depending on who looks at what on the board, figured I'd post this here to. The coin came in today and it's freaking amazing!

Alright so I finally got the alternate molds made to cast the first half with the trex image, and then the second half with the opposite dome shape and engravings. My first try was with only a layer of matte clear paint between the casting halves and here is the result. The image essentially disappears. From the right angles you can kinda see it, but not really.

So my next try will be adding clear resin to the cavity before pouring the second half. If that doesnt work, Ill have to try maybe thicker layers of clearcoat between them. Otherwise I'm left with the fact that it has to be 2 separate cast parts that are glued together with the open cavity within, something you cant get no matter what you do with pressure casting the second half.

Yeah, the first photo, blah, but the second photo I can barely see the T-Rex a bit. Looks cool, but I know you'll perfect it.

So if you make two pieces have you figured out what glue to use?

probably just clear epoxy, that's what I used on yours.

I'm still fairly convinced the real thing is a cast solid piece like above though, because doing it with way you get a bit of an overlap ring around the edge from the double casting, and that thin ring can be seen on the originals, particularly on yellow, so I know Im on the right track.

You could always try adding a drop or two of a solid white/cream coloured dye to the resin between the layers to make it translucent and more contrasting to the red

It's gotta remain transparent, so we'll see. Im going to try a few things this weekend and see what works out. At least Ive got the molds to do it for real now.

I completely forgot that's how this one was put together...

I feel like an idiot now. lol!

Like I said, if anyone is going to get even close to the actual ones, it'll be you. You pay far more attention and see things the average person doesn't. I never have a problem with your stuff... I know that it'll be made to the best it can.

So, more layers of clear or matte paint didnt work, I also tried matte mog podge, which KIND of retained the image, but still not enough. Ive got 2 more things I'm gonna try before just going with the open cavity and glued halves. I got some brushable wax which I think might do the trick, and also a thicker matte varnish I will try if the wax doesnt work out. Should find out tonight.

All this experimenting and trying different materials is why stuff costs so much, none of this stuff is cheap, and none of it might end up getting used in the end either, lol. Aaaaand if I decide to do the meteorite-rock-encrusted versions that adds a whole other process to making these which is at least another 4 steps and more material and more paint.

---EDIT---

The wax didnt work... ended up being way too opaque and not see through, though it was supposed to dry clear.

In the meantime, I worked on added the rocky bits to another test casting that didnt have a very visible rex image. I sculpted the meteorite shapes with Aves Epoxy Sculpt and then slathered it with some bondo filler to smooth it out and get some more of that built up gunk. I think they actually used something more like plaster, but I didnt have any at the moment. Then painted it all and weathered again.

I'm not sure how I'd go about doing this on multiple copies since I had to sculpt these bits on by hand after finishing the resin coin. I suppose I could maybe somehow mold the outside of the rocks and cast them thin enough to wrap around the edges of a coin, but we'll see. I have a feeling the coins wont look like this most of the film, since we know they end up "clean" when they become part of the suits.

You dont want this one, the rex image is nearly invisible, just looks clear (it's the same one shown above). Mostly just finished it to see if I could sculpt the meteorite stuff decently.
