Nothing for sale right now.

Here's a test with a concave half. It actually worked better than I thought. Now ill have to see what it looks like once glued. The Rex sculpt isnt final, it was just a quick intending into some clay with a toy Rex.

Ok I'm doing some mad scientist ish up in here. I made a casting from the small toy coin trex image which was about 1" (yes i had to crack it open to do this), which was a negative, and made a positive casting out of Hydrocal (which I had from a previous project) which makes a rubbery casting that expands 10x when soaked in water. This can then be remolded to make a now larger, negative mold.

So basically, I enlarged the toy Rex image to be 1:1 for my coin. It retains all of the detail and texture of the original. I checked the reference a bunch more and the Bandai sculpt is actually pretty spot on, if not a little TOO detailed. I'm just amazed it enlarged to JUST the right size I needed.

Ha!!

I'm amazed at how your mind and other prop peoples minds work, it's fascinating and amazing.

On that note, the T-Rex image looks damn good. So are you going to have to wait for the morpher to release before trying the others, (if this works)? Or are you going to make them by sculpting them?

Not sure, I like some of them, but then others like the Pterodactyl and Mastodon are that alternate sculpt which more matches what we think is the "cg" version, rather than what we saw in the SDCC props, so I might have to sculpt some of them.

It will probably be a add to cart/checkout thing like my gems whenever they are ready. Waitlists dont work for me, after spending the time to contact everyone individually, half of people never respond, so I'm not going to waste my time doing it that way.

---------------

This is just a test, the surface got messed up on one side because the resin didnt cure right, but i wanted to test out gluing the two halves. It pretty much worked, but the seam didnt get filled the best. Either way, proof of concept.

Wow, I'm loving the progress. That Comic Con coin image came out perfect, though now we know it wasn't so much an exclusive as it was early access.

Do you think the inner image was coated with a light color before sealing it in?

Can't wait to see what you do with the rest of them.

Finally got the rex image placement where I wanted it, took about 5 castings to get it right. This is the embossed rex image that was enlarged from the 1" toy coin negative. The one I ended up using is actually a softened out sculpt, which was done by pushing the original casting into some clay and smoothing the sculpt. The original doesnt look as detailed as the toy version, so I wanted to modify it a bit. The pink one is the final placement.

Further test casts also showed me that refilling the image cavity with another pressure cast layer of resin makes it all but disappear, so that kind of throws out my double casting theory. Even with several layers of clearcoat in between them, the image basically disappears with the fill method.

Wow, beyond awesome so what method did you ultimately used to combine the two halves?

Haven't got that far, what you're seeing is still just 1 half.

Tossed the first test coin on ebay just to gauge interest. If you absolutely need one before Christmas, this is it. This one had the first test rex image which isnt accurate, and one side is a little lumpy.

Prototype coin auction ends tonight.

Finishing u my last few gem orders, so I should be able to get back to this project soon and figure out the final details. I also have the new morpher on preorder so I should have that next week to start doing the other coins.

So yeah, I just won the coin...

You know I love your stuff and you've become one of the people I always keep an eye on because you have great quality and won't settle for just "good enough". I just put a bid in today... lol! There was one person that outbid me, so I wasn't going to go higher, but I wanted to check on it, they'd resended their bid, so it reverted back to me!

DIDN'T expect than... however happy to have a "one-off".

Yeah I cancelled the other bid because it was 0 feedback. Not exactly happy with how it went. If this is the level of interest and what people expect to pay for such an item (especially when people are paying $85 for WildRanger's...) I don't see making many of them :/

Glad it's going to you though, it's definitely gonna be the only one that that particular rex image.

Ahhh, so you cancelled the bids. Gotcha. I dunno though... maybe once the movie comes out there might be more interest. I'm shocked that it didn't go for more too. I wanted it cause I like the one of a kind thing, plus Red is my favorite anyway... and of course shares the same name as us cool dudes.

I'm thrilled to have it. And I'll definitely buy a set when you decide to do them. Even if we don't fully see the Green Coin and you decide to just make a "what if" version, I'd buy that too.

I am a little ticked at myself for not grabbing the cracked and Dark Energems... but I have the full set otherwise. But these are something I'm not going to miss, and I'll probably carry this one around for awhile lol!

Don't give up hope on the coins yet, people probably just didn't want to commit to buying a prototype of something that they know you'll work on more to be even more accurate.

And Taichi, he did say in the dynoprisms thread that he'd reopen orders after the holidays if you're desperate to complete your collection (I received my dark energem a few days ago and it's really a thing of beauty, definitely recommend!)

Ha! Yeah... I'll get them at some point. I got busy and usually I'm on the ball, but you know how things go. I've kinda moved past them, but I'm a completionist, so I won't wait next time. lol!
