Arthur: What A Wonderful Kind Of Thread

The original thread here was closed, but I had to start a new one to break this

The season premiere of the latest runs sees Mr. Ratburn get married, and come out.

Wow, the last time PBS did something this groundbreaking for the franchise was when Postcards from Buster showed same-sex couples back in 2005.

The cancer episode was 2010, the Alzheimer episode was 2013. Both of which are subject matters these types of shows never talk about. Hell even the 9/11 episode was in 2007.

Hell. The franchise while stuck in a perpetual cycle of nothing changes like the simpsons has actually told about stuff like D.W. getting older and no longer needing imaginary friends, as well as Kate and pal nolonger able to communicate because she is getting bigger.

While may not be the whole "LBGT" experience to some people, these types of episodes are big deals especially for Arthur.

actually more surprised it's a gay relationship, rather than a lesbian one that tends to happen. Outside of Loudhouse I can't really think of any G representation

Havenít seen anything since the change to flash animation aside from 2 episodes

doesn't look like it, while Arthur falls into sonic levels of representation of their animals at time they have at least been consisent. Though Muffy and Francine both seem like monkeys

Not surprised they introduced a gay relationship to the show as the show has introduced a lot of different themes. I am surprised itís Mr. Ratburn that is the character that is the one in the gay relationship. Personally if they were going that route, I think it wouldíve been better if it was a new character, not one thatís been on the show since the beginning. Nonetheless Iím interested in watching the episode and most of the newer seasons since I have missed most of the new animation seasons.

Still enjoy the show till this day and can honestly say itís one of my favorite tv shows of all time.

That was definitely out of left field. But cool as hell, Ratburn was like the first fictional authority figure in fiction I ever came across.

Been off the show for some time and I believe the last straw came for me when Season 19 ended with them finally moving onto 4th grade only for Ratburn to continue being their teacher. So I'm still surprised the show is still going and with its latest season opening with this. I mean I suppose unlike Thomas I felt there wasn't much that could be done for Arthur to continue going, but it still is so that's nice and all. Don't intend to watch the show again but hey it is ultimately fine for kids.

Mr. Feeny followed Cory from 6th grade all the way through college, man.

And that wasn't even a cartoon.

Arthur is a great show, having seen it on CBBC as a boy and honestly, I'm perfectly fine with Mr. Ratburn as an out and proud gay man.

I talked about this in the original Arthur thread. I know that there are probably not a lot of people who are watching reruns of The Cosby Show after everything its lead actor had done over the past several years, but I wish that PBS and the creators of Arthur had watched that episode of The Cosby Show 'Vanessa's Bad Grade' before writing 'Arthur's Big Hit'. That episode of The Cosby Show had a much better message about why you shouldn't hit siblings or take things that don't belong to them without permission than 'Arthur's Big Hit' did. Vanessa took Denise's sweater after she was told not to and then Denise shoved her. Clair Huxtable rightfully punished both of her daughters and told Vanessa that it was completely wrong of her to take something from her sister's closet that she was specifically not to. D.W. was never seen getting punished like Vanessa did.

Arthur makes me crave those little Debbie PB&J oatmeal sandwiches because Iíd stuff my face with those as a kid while watching.

Anyway itís cool that the show is doing this. Is it still animated in Flash? I remember catching an episode randomly and being taken aback by the drop in quality
