Well, Z-Rings seem like an Alolan thing anyway (and probably draw on the local Z-Energy from all the Ultra Wormholes) so they shouldn't need any additional writing out.

I wonder if we'll see any Galar variants, though...
Would be neat if Scyther and Scizor had Dark variants that made people think of Jack of Ripper.

So now there's a leak claiming spirit armor is the main gimmick. The starters will be pure grass/fire/water but the new gimmick will change them to grass/fairy, fire/fighting and water/ghost. Other Pokemon can be armored as well. So in other words One Piece's Armorment Haki is the gimmick according to the leak.
And the latest rumor yesterday was a pic of the supposed eeveelutions; steel and flying. Flying seems an odd choice just since dragon would fit better in most people’s opinion but it is a rumor. The designs aren’t bad though I’ve seen better steel eevee designs.

Any steel eeveelution in Great Britain had better be a steam engine dog.

The official acronym for Sword and Shield is SwSh. The Japanese Official Site confirmed it on a page about the Steel Move Naming Contest.

It was bound to happen; that way we can call it the "SwiSh" generation (until the third version pops up)

If there's going to be a gimmick, fine; you need something to keep the people interested. However, they better at least not just throw away old gimmicks for the sake of the new ones. (such as the "Mega Evolutions hurt" retcon in Alola to basically not have any new ones after all the ones in Kalos).
It’s pokemon, so expect keys to be dangled to attract the new audience.

Time for the "seriesly" filler: Lost Pokémon!

- The kids return to Malie City. For the segment in that garden place whose name I forgot;

- Ash looks surprised with the city. Kind of curious to think he went to Ula'Ula but didn't pass through the city;

- Wait, that Shaymin is a living being? I thought it was just a plushie Mallow carry around so people could pay attention to her;

- Now a joke ninja. Maybe Ash thought it was Sanpei lol;

- Anyway, look at the ninja's checks. The naruto influence is strong there. Guess it can't be helped. Both shows airs in the same station and were timeslot conrades for years. Even this day, Pokémon makes company to Boruto in that timeslot;

- Kiawe is using a shirt? What kind of miracle is that?;

- Ash's cape ressemble a Decidueye. Way to show the things we've been denied of, animators!;

- Wow, is Future Connection still a thing?;

- I wonder if Taiga Akashi is secretly making those takoyakis. You know, same japanese channel lol;

- Interesting that only now TR finds out Mallow is carrying a mythical (they'll always be legendaries for me);

- Guess Meltan can use its body like that...;

- TR thinks they have Meltan, Shaymin and Eeveen on their hands...;

- But Meltan just eats his way out. Gotta say, that joke was funny;

- Hey, Ash is using Meltan to battle;

- Meltan is fighting a Gen VII pokémon. Thanks, anime, for doing the things the games won't give us because they want to pander genwunners with a cheap cashgrab;

- Lycanroc and Pikachu are shocked with how lame the Bewear save was this time;

- And now they set up the Kantonian Gym.

Overall, boring episode, par in the course with some of SM weakest part. The only saving grace is that it showed Meltan is somewhat capable at battling, something they staff never bothered to do with Poipole during its tenure in the cast.

Next time: Gen VII gym match! And much like everything in this gen, it's lame and dissapointing!

Guess they want to diferentiate it from Soul Silver

Agreed. When X/Y was announced I was like, "No way could they be announcing a new Pokemon game already." It felt like they had just released Black and White. Sun and Moon felt the same way.

I don't mind it, though. I love having new Pokemon games to play on a more regular basis.
I feel the same way. One day, I'm excited for Gen 5.... Now, I'm ready for Gen 8!

I'm assuming at this point Teflon is a garnish.

I think the Aether staff a generation ago is the happiest we've ever seen Lusamine, though.
Well

This version of Lusamine is a lot different from the games. She is not nearly as sore as her game counterpart. For all we know, she's moved on because she thought Mohn had passed. Wonder how their re-meeting is going to play out.

Not really a fan of it. Specially the alternative typings.

C'mon, GF, just give us a Water/Fighting starter!

I could see that explanation working. Specially to justify Ash not using his Z-ring outside Alola.

Thinking about it though, they are probably going to have it (and Mega Evolution) in the game, so I don't know if this will fly.

It’s pokemon, so they’ll make something up if ash does keep the z ring.

Someone made an interesting note about the new trailer for the CG Mewtwo Strikes Back: there's a scene where it looks like Bulbasaur is running away from a fiery explosion and they note it appears to be the same place where in the original Bulbasaur fought Donphan. So some are suspecting either we're getting another new gen preview Pokemon just as Donphan was being used for Johto...or it could be a Galarian variant of Donphan. (probably the former since if there's any place the movie could sneak in a next gen cameo, it's that opening fight like the original movie)

So has there been any hint that this will feature anything new or is it more or less going to just be a straight remake of the original only now with bad CG for some reason?

Mewtwo's armored form looks massively different. People are pretty sure it'll tie into some new armor gimmick for Sword and Shield,

So neither the movie or game look for the comic?

Calling twist: Tim is actually one of those Dittos assuming human form, which is why he can understand Pikachu

I'm not sure that would be a good twist.

Well probably not but tie-in comics always get invalidated by the sequel

Third versions aren't a thing any more. BW had sequels, XY didn't have a third version at all, and Sun and Moon had paired remakes.
