CW's Supergirl

First Trailer
Second Trailer

http://www.comingsoon.net/news/tvnews.php?id=122613

In just a few weeks, the TV side of DC Entertainment will consist of four fairly high profile shows, including "Arrow," "The Flash," "Gotham" and "Constantine," but it seems they're already looking ahead. Yesterday, Bleeding Cool reported that DC Entertainment is actively pitching a Supergirl TV series with Michael Green ("Heroes," "Smallville") attached as a writer and producer on the series.

Now, E! Online not only confirms their original story but has revealed that The CW will not be the home of the series, despite being the first place it was pitched. It's unclear if this television version of the character would tie into the DC Cinematic Universe, as the prequel comic for last year's Man of Steel introduced Kara Zor-El into the canon of the film, but as with the other TV projects it will likely be separate. Check back for further updates on the story as we learn it.

Green actually has a history with Supergirl, having co-written the first twelve issues of the character's series for DC's "New 52" relaunch. He's also no stranger to other heroes having co-written the 2011 Green Lantern film as well as three episodes of "Heroes" and six episodes of "Smallville."

The cousin of the Man of Steel himself, Supergirl was previously adapted into a feature film in 1984, often considered one of the worst superhero films, starring Helen Slater as the character. Laura Vandervoort later appeared as the character on The CW's "Smallville" in the later seasons.
Kind of comfortable with the fact he's done Smallville..did he write any season seven episodes with Kara though?

I approve the idea. Hopefully that could lead to more shows with female leads.

Though I wonder how they'll work Kara's relationship with Superman given Warner wants to keep the TV-verse and Movie-verse separated.

The CW has passed on it.

According to insiders, there is no deal yet in place, however the series is not expected to go to the CW, who was first pitched the project, and who, of course, houses both Arrow and The Flash.

Arrow and Flash executive producer Greg Berlanti is behind it. Makes you wonder why it's not going to The CW.

To many DC shows on the network as is. They have Arrow, Flash and iZombie next season I can see why they passed. Though if iZombie doesn't work they could bring it on the following season which is the logical timeframe for the series to even air anyway.

iZombie is a Vertigo property, and it's not produced by Berlanti.

I am apprehensive as fuck. It COULD be great, but... DC has a shitty reputation with female characters in main roles. This may just get pointedly aimed as the hip female crowd with minor use of superpowers.

Vertigo is owned by DC thus everything that is a Vertigo property unless tied up through contracts is owned by DC and thus a DC property.

Yet, it's not a DC show.

I really could care less about a Supergirl series. I feel the same about this as I do about Gotham, thats cool but since the Cinematic universe isn't crossing over with the TV universe anyway why not just make a TV series featuring Superman or Batman?

Why go to the movies if you could see Batman and Superman on TV?

RickyTang wrote: View Post

That article is full of mistakes. So I wouldn't take it as fact so quick. Green isn't involved.

They're shopping it around like they did Gotham. So they're probably looking for the highest bidder or a full season commitment. That's if any networks or interested in the first place.

Why watch the batman animated series when you can see him in the movies? Why watch the Batman movies when you could read about him in the comics? There is room for for all forms of media. Just because I watch Beware the Batman doesn't mean I won't watch the new animated movie Assault on Arkham.

This idea that if Batman or Superman had a TV series people wouldn't watch the movie is ludicrous. Not to mention the movies will still have the biggest budget of all, more than enough of a reason to go see the film while being a viewer of the TV series. If the TV and Movie universe's were connected I see the argument but since they aren't it seems we have more than enough room for both. It is also fairly hilarious that Flash will more than likely be in film and TV proving my point for me.

There's a big difference between live action television/movies and animated cartoons/comic books.

Oh, I want this so bad. I've probably wanted it since "Fearful Symmetry".

In fact, we need Crisis of Infinite Karas at some point. I dug Power Girl, In-Ze and Cir-El far more than those Superman stand-ins during his death.

Its's not a big difference to me, the character is the character. I watched Smallville and still went to see Superman Returns. Lets say The Flash gets a solo film while his upcoming tv series is still airing and the two are not connected in any way. I would still watch the series and the film as long as both looked interesting to me. I personally feel most fans would, and it seems DC to an extent does as well considering we know at the very least that it's likely The Flash will be in the Justice League film and will have a TV series that will not be connected.

according to his credentials he was only a producer for the first season or two, writing a handful of episodes during that time. nothing during season 7 most definitely.
