Three years? Time flies.

Disney will probably avoid recreating Robin William's Genie. That could lead to a lot of unnecessary backlash. Robin William's was open about what happened between him and Disney and he is still very much missed. It would be a PR nightmare.
Yeah, that would probably be best.

How about this, (Not trying to be insensitive about his death, but) there's over 24 HOURS of unused Robin Williams footage. I wouldn't be apposed to having the Genie be 100% CGI with Robin Williams still portraying the character. He'd still have all the (literal) flexibility of the original portrayal while being modernized for the new film.

Not going to happen. Williams had it in his will that his unused material for Aladdin couldn't be used in a future film.

Only for a certain period of time.

I think it's still within that time frame, but eventually that footage can be used. It wasn't a forever thing.

This.
http://articles.latimes.com/1993-11-...robin-williams

"We had a deal," the actor said on the NBC show. "The one thing I said was I will do the voice. I'm doing it basically because I want to be part of this animation tradition. I want something for my children. One deal is, I just don't want to sell anything--as in Burger King, as in toys, as in stuff."

Williams said Disney executives agreed to honor his wishes, "Then all of a sudden, they release an advertisement--one part was the movie, the second part was where they used the movie to sell stuff. Not only did they use my voice, they took a character I did and overdubbed it to sell stuff. That was the one thing I said: 'I don't do that.' That was the one thing where they crossed the line."

Disney gave Williams a Picasso painting as a peace offering.

http://www.businessinsider.com/robin...o-gift-2014-11

So Williams took a hefty pay cut and agreed to be paid $75,000 for his work on the Disney film instead of his usual fee of about $8 million * but there was a catch. Williams did not want his voice used to merchandise products.
But the studio quickly changed its tune and sent the actor an apology in the form of a Pablo Picasso painting estimated at the time to be worth $1 million, according to artnet.

The painting was a self-portrait of the artist as Vincent van Gogh, which apparently really "clashed" with the Williams' wilder home decor.
Williams' friend and fellow actor Eric Idle even suggested Williams go on TV and burn the Picasso live as a form of protest.

"You realize now when you work for Disney why the mouse has only four fingers * because he can't pick up a check," he joked to the magazine.

even though this summer will mark 3 years since Robin Williams passing, it's very hard to imagine, like extremely difficult, to imagine who can replace his role as the Genie

It's perfectly simple if people stop thinking he's being replaced. You can't replace someone in an adaptation, this is a whole new platform for a whole new audience, same as Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast before it.

Plus, Robin was already replaced in the cartoon and nobody made a stink about it.

Just because someone dies, doesn't mean the animated character they portrayed should not be used again...

Exactly, in many ways, Dan Castellaneta became the go to guy whenever the Genie showed up in something else, such as Kingdom Hearts. And even in that game, there was a retelling of the story of Aladdin.

Live action is very different from animation, so for all we know, the Genie might not be as over the top as he was in the animated film, so they might need a different style of comedy to make it work to their advantage. They might cut back on the pop culture references.... Although, I would love it if they can somehow get that to work.

Disney has just released an open casting call for Aladdin and Jasmine. Rehearsals are scheduled to begin in April and production is going to last from July 2017 to January 2018.

Always nice when there's a picture to look at; even if it's only a casting flyer.

Very refreshing to see that they're sticking to their promise of not whitewashing the cast. After that rumor about a white protagonist in the live action version of Mulan (not Mulan, but someone she's fighting with) and the huge amount of backlash that came with it (along with Disney having to assuage people's fears), it looks like Ritchie and co. are, from the beginning, making it clear that they don't want to go that route.

Here's how Guy Ritchie got involved with the project according to Sean Bailey, the president of Motion Picture Production at Walt Disney Studios.

“Guy became interested in doing a Disney movie and we talked a lot about it. When we talked about Aladdin, he said, ‘My stories are really about street hustlers. That’s what I know how to do. And Aladdin is a classic street hustler who makes good.’ Guy’s got his own version of that story in his life. But he wanted to honor and respect the Disney of it all. We never want to feel like we have a playbook to these things because we worry it’ll make us creatively complacent. The idea of a highly energized Guy Ritchie Disney musical felt like, Oh, we haven’t done that before.”
