Hell yeah. I've seen some clips of him. He'd be a great Genie in the movie.

There's no way Disney isn't eventually crash and burn spectacularly with one of these. Too many, too fast.

Probably not until they do one based on a non popular or not well remembered movie. Something like the Black Cauldron or Sword in the Stone. But, I don't expect to see any of those at all.

Disney loves Robin Williams version so much they seem to have retired him after his death.

I would not be surprised to see a female Genie since the animated one is so beloved.
I'll take a female genie only if she's played by Kate McKinnon.

How could they not retire him? Even though they have enough of his outtakes to supposedly make a new movie Robin made them agree to not use the material for at least another 20 years (give or take, I don't know the exact year)

Somehow they were able to use unused material for the recent blu ray, but I guess they got a pass since its only a storyboard and not fully animated.

I don't know if it's a woman, a Chinese person... They really, really need a new take or they will crash and burn. Robin Wllliams had a level of energy no one can match.

I've always wondered how the comedy in the animated movie does amongst international audiences? Like for example would a Japanese person who's watching a Japanese dub of Aladdin understand & laugh at all of the early 90s American pop culture jokes, or do the jokes fall flat amongst a different culture?

Well, by the time they get the script done and pre-production ready, I'd say the kid from this year's version of The Jungle Book will be old enough to play Aladdin, so I'm tossing Neel Sethi's (is that his name) name into the ring.

Gilbert Gottfried needs to return as Iago

I could see McKinnon as a female Genie if they let cut loose and just ham it up like in the Ghostbusters reboot.

That film is supposedly going to be a prequel with a different crew behind it. This one is going to be a direct remake.

It was certainly... odd... Things like the Ed Sullivan and William F Buckley references went way over my head and I was older than the target audience with some awareness of US pop culture at the time.

Though to be honest, I'm not sure that many American kids these days would get some of those pop culture references either. (Ethel Merman? Carol Channing?)

It's like the references that they threw into the animated series. How many kids watching that today (if Disney ever actually let the show out of the vault) would things like the Talespin reference they had in one episode with Genie, Iago, Abu and Jasmine dressed as Baloo, Kit, Louie and Rebecca?
