Toy Story 4

Variety reports that Disney and Pixar are set to bring back the "Toy Story" franchise with a fourth film directed by John Lasseter. The announcement was made during the Walt Disney Company's quarterly earnings call by Disney head Bob Iger.

"Toy Story 3" had an incredible box office run for Disney in 2010, earning close to $1.1 billion worldwide. While the third film put a cap on the toys' adventures, leaving them with a new owner and other new toys with which to interact as their old owner Andy went off to college, the franchise has continued with a series of shorts and television specials, including the upcoming "Toy Story that Time Forgot" and 2013's "Toy Story of Terror."

While the cast and further details of "Toy Story 4" are currently unknown, it's a pretty good assumption that most of the cast -- including Tom Hanks and Tim Allen -- would come back to reprise their roles as they've done for the television specials. Lasseter's return is also understandable -- the director has been at the helm for every "Toy Story" feature film since the debut Disney/Pixar collaboration in 1995.

"Toy Story 4" is set for June 2017.

This is surprising. I really didn't think they would make another one and I would've been fine if Toy Story 3 had been the last movie. I guess it's cool but there's a long time until this comes out so there's time to think about it more.

I guess Pixar may want that all time box office record or at least in the top 2 or 3.

Can they top Toy Story 3?! They really set the bar VERY high for themselves…

Topping it isn't the issue, the issue is how do you CONTINUE the story? Unnecessary sequel is unnecessary. That's all there is to it.

That's what I also thought about the last 2 Toy Story films… and yet Pixar proved they could come up with something. Aside from Cars 2, i'm giving Pixar the benefit of the doubt. They earned it.

Really sick of Pixar's recent sequels. Usually they just wind up devaluing the original film.
Besides Cars 2, and Cars 1 for that matter, Pixar's sequels have all been fun movies.

Wow, Pixar really has run out of ideas. Sad.
Or they had one so good they had to bring Toy Story back for a fourth time.

Honestly, while I liked the first Cars alright, it's pretty low on my Pixar movie rankings, and even though I haven't seen the sequel or the spinoff, those things being lackluster doesn't really surprise me.

Toy Story, on the other hand, has consistently been amazing, and so I'm willing to hold on to hope, and even though I'm a little skeptical, I'll give it the benefit of the doubt. I wasn't expecting to like Monsters University but ended up enjoying it.

But this is continuing a trend they started with Cars 2 and are continuing with Finding Dory, Cars 3 and The Incredibles 2. After Brave, it's become clear that they've lost some faith in their new intellectual properties.

I got mixed feelings. On one hand I'm happy to have another Toy Story film, but on the other hand Toy Story 3 was a perfect way to end the series.

TOY STORY 4: ANDY GETS CANCER

Woody and Buzz have to race back to Andy's side to say goodbye. After the tearjerker moments in UP and TS3, Pixar decides to up the ante big time.

But seriously, they ended the story at 3. I'll go watch 4 and I'll just pretend to myself that it's non-canon.

There's no reason for head canon for this franchise yet. they've yet to let most people down, even after all the shorts. But I guess time will tell.

Yeah I agree. I don't think its a good idea. Toy Story 3 was better than I anticipated. But Toy Story 4, I think they are pushing it. Toy Story 3 ended on a good note, anything else would be stretching it.
Exactly. There is no point to making this. >_> I also expect it to get mild reviews, but no real info is known yet, so we'll just need to see.

I've been crazy about Toy Story since I saw the original in the cinema back in the day and... I don't think I feel all that excited about this news for some reason. Hmm.

Noooo!!!

This is one of those things where if they can pull it off, it would be amazing to have for the first time I can think of, a quadtrilogy (tetralogy?) that managed never dip in quality.

But the risk in failing is so incredibly high its not even worth it in my eyes. The third movie was the perfect ending to an amazing trilogy. Why push your luck trying to do more? They had the right idea with the tv specials, I don't see why they couldn't just keep that going instead.
