A Joss Whedon show? I expect it to be cancelled, then be constantly reminded about it for the next ten damn years.

^this

I swear the only reason they mentioned LMD's in the MCU was to give a return option for Coulson...

The worst thing they could possibly do is make this show all about Coulson, and turn a small thing people like into a huge thing people didn't realize they'd get sick of so easily.

I'm not opposed to the first episode(s) taking place before the events that remove him from the story, thereby having him around for a bit, but I don't need him to be the star of an entire prequel series, and I don't need him to be resurrected.

I'm not saying make him the star or have him on the show. Personally I'd like it to be very much like other shows we already have that just focus around Marvel characters. Buddy cop comedy drama its formula works and if they can get the right mix of Marvel stuff to real world stuff it should be great. We can have episodes where agents need to take down the Living Laser or we can see the creation of other villains that could show up in a Avengers movie. We could also have a season around a break out at the raft and the agents have to track these guys down again ect. The Breakout could even have a bunch of Cameos in it as the carrier showing up Maria Hill or even Fury could be in this.

This show again has endless possibilities that don't even require the use of the main tiered heroes to show up.

Yeah, making Coulson into anything that isn't Coulson is just retarded.

I like the guy, though, and Clark Gregg's not doing anything else, so stick him in there. He doesn't have to be the star, just like he wasn't the star in any of the movies or Ultimate Spider-Man.

Asking why people like Coulson is like asking why people like Stan Lee cameos.

Well I think Smulders is staying till the show ends. Still that doesn't mean she can't be in this depending on the shooting schedule of both shows. She could also have a cameo status in a number of episodes and if the show is still going join it full time after HIMYM ends.
The producers have told 20th TV and CBS that if they're going to renew HIMYM for a ninth season, they need to do it pretty early in the run. The writers are treating it as the final season unless CBS says otherwise.

And it may be prohibitively expensive to get all four actors back -- since they would have to sign new deals. Segel, Harris and Smulders' film careers are gaining steam, which gives their agents more leverage for an higher six-figure sum per episode payday.

And if HIMYM is renewed at the last minute, there's nothing preventing Smulders from doing a recurring role as Agent Maria Hill in SHIELD and her leading role in the sitcom.

Depends on when each show is filmed. She left HIMYM to do Avengers and she was away for a few episodes for her part in the film. Just like they had to recast an actor for Thor because of once upon a time. If both shows are filmed at the same time they need to know ahead of time so the writers can write the characters out. Still I'm sure this will be the last season of HIMYM there really dragging it out.

Not sure how I feel about this. It would be great as long as hes writing and directing it. But without the support of the Avengers, I don't see it being more then a little more futuristic cop show.

Just because the Avengers don't show, doesn't mean it won't have SHIELD sponsored supers helping out every so often. Bobbi 'Mockingbird' Morse could show up, as could Jessica Jones, Jessica Drew (Technically, Spider-Woman isn't connected to Spider-Man, so it's possible) and, hell, let's got the street heroes everyone seems to want to see, Danny 'Iron Fist' Rand and Luke freaking Cage. Plenty more people in the Marvelverse they could 'hire' for SHEILD than the Avengers. Just sayin'.

This might be a good point for them to introduce the lesser known properties to the public, I know they've been wanting to for awhile now. This could be their chance.

I have high hopes for this series. Marvel are doing something really cool right now with their movies, so a TV series isn't that much of a stretch.

DC had Smallville and that sort of worked as a show. So I don't see how Marvel could mess this up.

Just to explain my viewpoint a little bit, for me, Smallville only started getting good once they dropped Lana completely. Her love interest plot with Clark that took up half the series was boring as hell as it never went anywhere.

It just slowed down the series.

SHIELD will be it's own thing

http://geek-news.mtv.com/?p=87682

"It's new characters. It needs to be its own thing," said Whedon. "It needs to be adjacent [to the MCU] but you don't want to do a show where you're constantly going, 'Iron Man just left, but he was totally here a minute ago.' You want them to do their own thing."

What did you expect this is exactly what the show needs. It needs to be as far away from Avengers as possible. You will never get the Avengers on the show maybe a nod here or there but the threats have to have shield deal with it and not go oh we just called Iron man in.

It would still suck if it's not in the same universe though.

I'm pretty sure they'll do some callbacks to Avengers, though. After all, it takes place after a massive alien invasion. I could see them dealing with damage control and junk. There's more to the story than just what happens in the movies.
