CASE FILE 36: By Keeping Honest
Thanks. I think that may have been what I had seen with the little I could read/interpret from it.

Won't be able to get my copy until I get back from Saskatchewan...unless they sell it at the con I'm going to. (Ganbatte)

Wish we got our mail in the morning. Just got my set in today despite it being set to arrive tomorrow. No complaints there.

For those who have the Timeranger set, is the video quality any better than the encodes we've been dealing with, or is it still pretty bad?

Wish someone could do custom covers for Zyuranger, Dairanger and Ohranger and have them infull suits (I know Ohranger have them in suits, but they are helmetless).
I’d rather get new covers for Zyu, Dai, and Oh so we could get the correct logos on the front/spine instead of those “Blue” versions. Also “Zyuranger” expanded to “Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger” to match the rest.

It's worse than what OT's put out so far. It's the unaltered video so all the weird encoding method and glitches are still there.

The video is about equal to TV-Nihon's work. It's not great but it's at least watchable. But yeah, I'm hoping for a Blu-ray release that'll at least be like Kuuga (an upscale that's at least MILES ahead the DVD and original broadcast).

Unless Toei does it first don't expect any improvements at all. PR is a niche product, sentai is a niche of a niche, the profit margin is probably quite thin, doing a remaster is probably not in the budget. What they do right now seems to be working, I'd rather not rock the boat and risk the releases becoming unprofitable.

I don't think Shout does anything except slap video on DVDs anyway. We know they even outsource the subs, from the Ohranger deal, and the wide variety of quality between sets.

Man that Timeranger packaging looks gorgeous. Thank you for sharing! I’ve been hoping for Timeranger ever since they announced Dairanger.

Exactly. The quality has varied a lot but it's hard to blame Shout when that's true for Toei's own discs.

Again, the range of quality (subs not included) is more on Toei. Other than that, I thought the sets were consistent.

Got my set today. I think it looks a little better than tv-Nihon's, closer to Overtime's quality. Man, is it good to have this one though!

If you can understand Japanese or compare translations to nihons how is it?

Are they still using the thin font you see on MS movie maker?

Can anyone confirm if the subs are right about this line, please? Saw it on Twitter, and I remember posting this part in my profile with TV Nihon subs and it was different.

Shout!

TV Nihon:

Not exactly a font, since the subs aren't text files but picture files (which is common on official releases), but yes. Same sub styling since Carranger. As for the subs, I've never had a problem with them. They're just a little more direct than fansubbers usually are. The only time there's an issue is when they need to translate text on the screen, where they have to quickly change lines since picture files can only allow one sub line on-screen at a time.

Which episode is that? I'll check.

I don'r remember, but it's between the first ones, maybe the first 10 ones.

I think that scene was from Case File 4, when Domon and Sion are handing out flyers. (since Sion still has green hair at this point)

Was there ever an explanation as to why the footage from around Gingaman to Timeranger looked like absolute fucking garbage? It's insane to me that older footage looks better than the newer footage. Did everything switch to videotape or something? GoGoV looks like it was left to rot underwater while Timeranger looks like it was dug up from one of the quarries they film in.

Okay, I just checked, it's a little of both. Basically the lines are switched. Domon says that while he does love everyone, that women need to be protected more. He's saying that to explain why he's only offering his self-defense class to women. Neither are wrong.

I believe from Carranger to Timeranger they decided to store it on a different type of tape than what they had previously used, resulting in lower quality. There was also an issue with the process of putting Timeranger on DVD, so it looks even worse.

The final edits were being made on tape, rather than film, for Carranger episode 6 through Timeranger. issues with their transfers.

Gaoranger moved to digital.
