Mr. Spacely played by Danny DeVito is the best example of perfect casting.
An inspired casting as well.

This year marks the 15th anniversary of the 2002 film. James Gunn, who wrote the screenplay, revealed that the film was originally going to be rated "R".

I know they filmed *some* harder stuff (one of the DVD's deleted scenes plays up the 'Velma is a lesbian' angle, and I'm pretty sure there's one with Shaggy selling 'pot' out of the Mystery Machine, which just turns out to be a clay pot), at least enough to get the film a PG-13. At the end of the day, they just decided to make it a straight up kid's film and cut out all the more adult stuff out.

That was obvious AF. I mean, even if they got to cut most of those scenes, you could tell that they were going for something more mature (Fred's behavious when in Daphne body. some of the deleted scene. Daphne very showing dresses.)

Helps explain at least one scene. Remember when Velma was trying to pull off the "mask" of one of the demons in the dining hall, giggling and acting out of it?

Well it wasn't pot, but there's a whole scene cut where Velma, jealous Freddie never fell for her like Daphne (yes, they did THAT cliche theory. At least S&S being potheads has some meat to it), proceeds to get WASTED, and croons her own love song about it, while the bartender says the weirdest line, "Women can't be alcoholics!"......Which was BS then, and BS with more women alcoholics on TV since then, but okay, whatever.

So some of the cuts actually made it better. There are some I wish they kept though. When the gang is catching up at the airport, they had quick 30-60 second flashbacks of what they've been up to, like Daphne's first failed attempts at martial arts before she got good. There were for the most part funny, actually moved quickly, and fleshed out their characters, so it would've pointless to cut them for time's sake.

Warner Bros. has hired the brilliant Chis Columbus to serve as an executive producer for the film. This news comes hot off the heels of a live-action/CGI film version of Tom & Jerry, which is also in the works.

Will Forte and Gina Rodriguez have been announced to voice Shaggy and Velma, respectively. Frank Welker will once again be providing the voice of Scooby. Tracy Morgan will be voicing the classic Hanna-Barbera character Captain Caveman. There's no word yet on if Welker will also be doing Fred's voice or who will be voicing Daphne.

Wait, they're not letting Lillard voice Shaggy? What the actual fuck? Are they trying to torpedo this movie from the outset?

Yeah, the lack of Lillard is surprising. Tracy Morgan as Captain Caveman? That just sounds hilarious. Not to mention just what this movie will entail if he's in it too.

It's odd that Welker's voicing Scooby, but it's up in the air if he'll be voicing his signature Scooby Doo character. I mean, Lillard and Welker ARE Shaggy and Fred now that Casey Kasem's gone. Personally I think they could find a better voice for Scooby. As much as I love Welker and his iconic list of characters, his Scooby Doo just never sounded right to me. Maybe he could pull off a Scrappy voice (maybe his Slimer/Scooter voice would fit the pup?), but I just can't get into his voicing Scooby.

If they are going to get celebrities to voice Fred and Daphne, then I definitely think Reese Witherspoon would be perfect for Daphne and Channing Tatum could voice Fred. Or maybe since Dax Shephard is involved with this film, they might get him and Kristen Bell to voice the characters. The article that reported this news is interesting because it sounds like we are going to be seeing a lot more Hanna-Barbera characters.

The story sees the Mystery Inc. gang join forces with other heroes of the Hanna-Barbera universe to save the world from Dick Dastardly and his evil plans...and this time, we are told, the threat is real. The movie is slated for a May 2020 release.

Ya know, why even bother getting big names for this movie? It's Scooby Doo, no one cares about who the voices are with these characters. Not having Lillard back is disappointing.

Chris Pratt would be a great choice for Fred, especially considering his history with The LEGO Movies at Warner Bros.

I know. I'd imagine that Lillard must be feeling pretty bummed right now. It's kind of like when they got Tiffany to replace Janet Waldo as Judy Jetson in Jetsons: The Movie. Waldo said in an interview that if the whole cast of the series had been replaced, then she wouldn't have minded, but the fact that she was the only one to have her character voiced by someone else broke her heart. Lillard might not have been the first actor to voice Shaggy, but he's received praise for his portrayal since the live-action movies. It sounds like Warner Bros. is just going to have the human characters done by other people and have Welker do Scooby's voice.

What?

He doesn't do voices, they're basically just saying he sounds like a caveman.

I mean, I love the guy, and it definitely varies from series to series, but... yes. Yes he is.

But no Matthew Lillard? And maybe no Frank Welker as Fred? What is wrong with them? This is like when they got new, "celebrity" voices for Alvin & The Chipmunks - No one could tell and no one cared. I mean, for crissakes, Welker's been voicing Fred since 1969 for a reason.
