Lethal Weapon TV Reboot

Following in the footsteps of “Minority Report” and “Limitless,” “Lethal Weapon” is heading to television.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fox has given a put-pilot commitment to a reboot of classic buddy-cop action franchise, written by Matt Miller (“Chuck”), who will executive produce alongside Dan Lin.

The project hails from Warner Bros. Television, whose corporate sibling Warner Bros. Pictures produced the “Lethal Weapon” films.

Debuting in 1987, the hit franchise starred Mel Gibson as volatile LAPD narcotics cop Martin Riggs, who, struggling after the death of his wife, is transferred to the homicide division, where he’s partnered with the aging Sgt. Roger Murtaugh, played by Danny Glover. Produced for $15 million, “Lethal Weapon” grossed more than $120 million worldwide, and spawned three sequels.

The TV reboot will reportedly utilize a similar setup as the original film.

Hopefully the movie cast will have cameos in it.

What the heck is with all these old movies getting television adaptations all of a sudden? And now you're homogenizing an already extremely homogenized genre since Rush Hour is already on the way and is also a movie adaptation featuring the typical begrudging buddy cop scenario.

Obviously name recognition can make this work, but I'm not optimistic.

I sincerely doubt it. I mean, Rene Russo, and a few supporting characters from the movies might be interested. But Joe Pesci, Chris Rock, Danny Glover and Mel Gibson?!?!?!?!?! Not a chance.

NEVER ask what's next. That's just common sense.....

....and as for this show, I couldn't care less.

Really? Only heard of the first tv show that was from back then. Then again, I don't watch a lot of tv anymore. *looks on wikipedia* From the look of things it will be like that New Odd Couple with an all black cast.

First off, I'm not surprised by this at all. Second looking at the trailer, it look kinda interesting. But I already have a bloated viewing schedule even excluding the canceled shows, so maybe I'll check it out when it comes to Netflix.

Limitless is actually pretty good. Bradley Cooper is deeply involved in the series.

Damon Wayans Jr. gives me all the hope in the world.

That said, I'd rather have this be Let's Be Cops: The Series. Unless of course this is just a thinly-veiled Let's Be Cops: The Series.
