Voltron Legendary Defender Toys Discussion

Via nerdist.com we have our first look at the toys for Netflix's Voltron Legendary Defender:

http://nerdist.com/playmates-voltron...445852#gallery

The following are due for release in January.

5 inch Figure Assortment (MSRP $9.99) - the basic action figure line includes all 5 lions with clawing or jumping action or firing projectiles, the Robeast Myzak, Lion attack Voltron, and Sword Attack Voltron.

Assortment includes:
  • Sword Attack Voltron
  • Lion Attack Voltron
  • Myzak
  • Black Lion
  • Red Lion
  • Green Lion
  • Blue Lion
  • Yellow Lion

Preorder here at BigBadToyStore
14 inch Ultimate Voltron (MSRP 39.99) - For those that want a streamlined super poseable Voltron that doesn't separate, the Ultimate Voltron has you covered. Featuring lights, sounds, firing projectiles, and an impressive 26 points of articulation, this Voltron perhaps best emulates the look of the robot on the Netflix series.

Preorder here at BigBadToyStore
Legendary Lion Assortment (MSRP 17.99/29.99) - The Legendary Lion assortment provides deluxe size lions with the ability to combine and form Voltron. Each Lion includes an add on weapon while the Red and Green Lion's come with the components necessary to form Voltron's sword. Each Lion includes 18 + points of articulation and a miniature pilot on speeder. The Black Lion includes 50 + sounds, some of which only unlock when Voltron is fully assembled.

Here is a picture of the combined form of the Legendary Lion assortment:

New for Summer 2017 and Fall 2017

Video courtesy of Atamaii toys at the Hong Kong Toy Fair.

We have a line of basic action figures that look to not have action features thankfully
  • Shiro
  • Keith
  • Pidge
  • Lance
  • Hunk
  • Zarkon
  • Robeast from the Balmera episode arc
  • A new presumed more articulated Voltron that comes with Hunks blaster

Slated for fall there is also a line of DIECAST METAL lions like the original 80's release that combine to form a 9 inch Voltron, the Metal Defenders assortment.

Also slated for fall are the Mega Lion assortment that features the Red and Blue Lions with exclusive deco pilot figure.

Some pretty exciting stuff coming down the pipes from Playmates Toys!

are they really showing off everything EXCEPT a combining figure?

That's disappointing...

They show the individual combining lions, but yeah, no combined shot. They are the ones with all the weapons.

Yeah you would think they've have included something showing off the combined mode. Looks like the 4 limbs will be the same price point as the tmnt vehicles that comes with figures (slamboni, stealth cycle, etc) while black lion will be nite asking the lines of the shellraiser, part wagon, and pizza thrower. Just don't excited all that gorgeous silver paint to stick around

I foresee a bunch of dangly lion limbs with the combined version, which is understandable but won't match with the CGI model 100%. Still look nicer than I was expecting, but we'll see how many paint apps we lose between the promotional images and and the final release.

Frankly, those are really crappy looking. I guess gone are the days when Voltron was king of the toy aisle.

Could you elaborate on why you think so? Just curious.

I'd actually like to know why, too. I think they look pretty great, actually. Better than most Zords we see coming from Bandai.

It's no Soul of Chogokin, but for mass production they look pretty good. Worth the price in my opinion. Now if they were talking something in the multiple hundreds I'd have some issues.

You know, Voltron was never really "King of The Toy Aisle." G.I. Joe, Transformers, and He-Man were the biggest things in the 80's. Also, that was 30 years ago! What came after the old Lion Force Voltron? Vehicle Voltron, which I personally think isn't as horrible as people say it is, Voltron: The 3rd Dimension, which is a f**king pile of sh!t, Voltron Force, which is boring but I like how the lions could swap around, and Legendary Defender, which is my favorite Voltron series in terms of storyline, characterization, and my favorite Voltron design.

I'm so buying the combining Lions, BTW.

I like what I see. I have been in need of a new Voltron for some time now and this is one at an affordable price point.

Are those small pieces that come with each lion supposed to represent the transports to the lions?

The wrists are bugging me. Shouldn't they push into the arms a little bit?

Honestly, from how much mass shifting and Lion limbs disappearing is in Netflix Voltron's transformation, I fully expected a combining figure to not be perfect. This one actually look a little bit better than what I expected, so I'll gladly take it.

The arms and legs are about $20 U.S. and the Black Lion is about $30 U.S.

I like how green and red come with pieces to build the sword. Liking the bigger version more and more.

He looks pretty cool, I just hope he works as a toy with sufficiently strong joints.

Not sure why but he reminds me of transformers animated lockdown.....
