Zyuranger TV-Kun (Teribukun) Medals/Coins--- How were they really acquired?

I know that these coins were mail-in prizes from TV-Kun magazine. At least up until this point, it has been widely accepted that back-in-the-day, you would send in for the core 5 set, and later there would be an opportunity to get the rarer Dragon coin and Tribal coin.

However, while searching through some old threads to find more concrete information, I found this magazine clipping.

I figured, "Perfect, this clipping should tell me everything I need to know!" so I went online and found a Japanese translator to translate it for me. This is what he sent back:

Jyuu Ranger Dragon Medal(s)

6 pc set // Dragon Medal - Present to All (Applicants)

Special Medals not sold anywhere else!
Jyuu Ranger Dragon Medal Application Form
Your Address
-Tel
Guardian Name
- Child(ren)'s Name(s)

Application Choice 6pc set // Dragon Medal

(Make sure to mark your choice with a circle)

Rules for Application

1 Cleanly cut out the application form on the left and have your guardian write down your address, name, and name(s) of child(ren) applicant(s)

2 Mark a circle on the course of your choice (6 pc set or dragon medal)

3 People applying for the 6 pc set should include a postal stamp for 700 yen and the application card in an envelope and send it to the address shown on the left.

4 Those requesting the dragon medal course should include a 150 yen postal stamp and the application card in an envelope and send it in

- Mail-in Address
100-31
Tokyo International Post Office
P.O. Box 5255
Person in Charge of Terebi-kun Zenin Service 1

While the Tribe coin is not pictured anywhere in this image, the clipping refers to the "Dragon Coin" and the "6 Coin Set" as two separate mail-in promotions. My question is this: could it be possible that the Tribe coin was not it's own mail-in promo, but rather came with the core five as part of a six-coin set? As I said before, up until now, I had believed the Dragon and Tribe coins to be entirely separate from the core five.

If this is true, wouldn't it be safe to assume that the Tribe coin is not rarer than the other 6, and in fact is as common as the core five? Perhaps someone else has another advertisement for these coins that I can translate or any other kind of information. Thank you!

Just from a quick glance, it is differentiating the Dragon Medal from the Set of 6. So yeah, I think that's the case.

I'm considering the possibility that the "6 piece set" refers to core five + dragon, and not core five + tribe. So your two options would be: dragon alone or core five + dragon. And then the Tribe would be released later.

This to me sounds more likely than my previous theory of Tribe being the 6th in the set. This would also explain tribe's absence in the advertisement.

Perhaps there was three "runs" of the medals:

The first advertisement would offer the core five alone. The second would be the one pictured above, with the core five and dragon coin. Where the third would offer all seven coins in some manner. This would also explain the three weathering variations you can find with these coins (thin outline, thick outline, no outline).

Again, this is all just speculation. I hope I don't sound too crazily obsessed here. Just trying to figure out everything I can about these grails, seeing as citogenesis seems to be in effect here in regards to information about these.

Perhaps this was the second run? Those who had already taken up the offer from the first run would already have the 5 coins - so they have the option to just get the Dragon coin alone. Those who missed the first run can then get the 6 piece set.

I'm not sure where the tribal coin would come into it - perhaps there was a third run, or maybe it was cancelled? Or it could have been a 'secret gift' with the 6 piece set as an incentive to get people to re-buy the 5 coins they already had?

From what I have read on some japanese pages along with the ads I have seen for the medals, the first offering was for the 5 core medals and nothing else. Later on, after Dragonranger was revealed, TV-kun offered the 6 medal set or dragon alone. At some point near Zyuranger's season end, TV-kun had a giveaway for the Tribe medal selecting out of everyone that had previously purchased a set of medals. One Japanese site mentioned how purchasing 11 sets of Z yuranger medals helped them win a tribe medal, so I can only assume from this information that more purchases meant better odds of winning.

I thought this was all common confirmed knowledge. I'll see if I can find the sources for this info.

I had a Kakuranger set of these I bought in the mid-2000's. I never knew what they were and threw them away about five years ago. Are they uncommon?

I rarely ever throw toys or collectibles out. There was some stuff I couldn’t really manage to shift a while after I moved house and ended up dumping them rather than be annoyed with them taking up space. A complete unboxed Pyramidas, some large plastic DBZ statues, one of those giant-sized Beeteborgs and those little coins were amongst the things now sitting in landfill somewhere.

I bought some TV Kun magazines from 1992 in search of more information/advertisements for the medals. Here's a page advertising the core five, presumably before the release of the Dragon coin.

I can add this small bit of info, I know the core 5 were at least packaged together, stabled onto one long cardboard card. This is how my set came.

Even if you ordered all six coins together, the dragon coin still came in a separate stapled clear plastic bag like this:

Same for the team coin; separate, bagged alone, stapled with no cardboard backing:

How about a higher-res version for reference:

We should just put up photos of all the TV-Kun sentai medals from Zyuranger, Kakuranger, Gingaman, Hurricanger, maybe even the mailaway items such as the buttons from Gaoranger, etc.
