If anyone going to SDCC would like to be a middleman and pick one up for me, I will pay extra. Let me know in my inbox.

it kinda looks like they shrunk the 8 inch figure helmet down
It's not a lack of resources. Red Ranger sculpts definitely seem derivative. It's like they're modeling old toys for the new designs.
  • 2007 "Epic Red Ranger" set had a vinyl figure with a perfect headsculpt
  • 2010 standard figure had a well shaped, but proportionally small helmet
  • 2013 "Armored Might" had a well-shaped head sculpt
  • 2013 "Action Hero" has a wider, elongated visor with short helmet
  • 2013 "Legacy DVD Collection" has a taller visor, chin strap, and giant nostrils
  • 2014 "Mask Collection" has wide gums and overstated linework, otherwise good
  • 2015 "Legacy" 6.5 has pronounced V ridge, eyes are too close, 'gumline' is too wide
  • 2016 1:1 Helmet is too geometrical, instead of curved. Feels too mordern.
  • 2018 1/4 Scale Helmet is too gummy and has really sunken in eyes

It's like someone said "this sculpt is our new base, model yours after this".

Maybe it's because Red is so frequently done, nobody feels they need to check reference material.

Looks like Dragon Shield Red's morpher isn't gold either?
I mentioned that several pages back. I also replied to the Hasbro rep who was posting about it on Twitter asking if that was how it would be on the final product or if it had been corrected for production. The only response was from another fan complaining that I had noticed an error and why can't I just be happy that it's as good as it is.

Probably that one, sadly.

The one on the Power Sword is gold, it looks like the others are silver though. Maybe that's what will make this version exclusive.

You should be happy that a multi-national company is selling a product at a trade show. Why do you have any opinion on the matter? Take your SDCC pills and clap.

Am I losing it, or is the Sentai Mask Collection version the same as the one from the BoA Legacy Mask Collection set?

I'm not sure why this particular helmet is so tricky to get right, but the new Lightning one looks especially bad. Maybe by the time they do a "normal" MMPR red figure, it'll be improved? Armored Red only appeared in one episode anyway, and doesn't look especially iconic to me. Zeo Gold looks like a good figure, but I won't mind if we never get a non-exclusive release. Really, the only thing I'm disappointed on missing out on is the assembled weapons.

I think they're the same sculpt. When the Legacy masks released there were some comparison pics, and I beleive the only difference was linework.

They aren't compatible with each others' stands though.

It's a pretty good sculpt, but as you said earlier, the linework is a little too conspicuous on both of 'em.

people like that are the *WORST*. I'm messaging some of the usual reviewers i follow on youtube and seeing if they'll grill hasbro about it.

I've been a defender and supporter of the Lightning Collection and admittedly I want to collect all the Lightning Collection figures Hasbro puts out but that Red Ranger helmet sculpt is really, really bad. It looks too bulky on top in addition to the visor shape being absolutely wrong. It does look like it's referenced from the original 8" MMPR figure rather than the actual sentai helmet. WTF, Hasbro, you can definitely do better than this.

If future Rangers are this botched I'm just going to hang on to my Bandai Legacy figures and call it a day. Sorry not sorry.

It's lk the MMPR Red Ranger head. It's like it's just cursed. So far the builds for everything else has been fine so I don't know if this is an example a potential standard. Could be reference material is showing some really skewed perspective.

It seems like there is an urge to define the helmet more like a lizard then it really is. The design in contrast to the others has a very flush design. It also has weird angles . It's a circle an oval at the same time depending on where you look. It's got shallow parts but protrudes in a way where perspective is all wonky.

I feel like after Zyuranger, we have never seen any helmet like Red's since. If they protrude forward then the sides are flat. Otherwise the face is pretty flat. If it's round then it's clearly an oval.

Or it's a bunch of bs and Hasbro fumbled the ball like their hands were covered in jello and Vaseline.

I like the line work personally. It makes the design pop a bit more at such a small scale. It's kind of like panel lining on Gundam models. No, the "actual" robots don't have black paint in between every panel, but at that scale it's virtually impossible to get a proper sense of depth without some additional line work to bring it out.

Right? Complaints about complaints are also complaints.

It's also unproductive. Nitpickers will never stop nitpicking.

Sculpts? Paint apps? They can be changed.

The response to MMPR Red is refreshing after the Mandatory Positivity of Lightning prerelease.

With all the complaints its possible we could get a new helmet sculpt with the regular red ranger figure release.

What really bums me out are the belt buckles. They are so small and sad looking. The legacy ones, while a bit too large look so much better. It makes me sad to think of a whole mmpr team with these flimsy morphers...

They remind me of the stickers they put on the belts of the 8 super legends figures.

Only because these belts are iconic. I like the maneuverable softer belts but I wonder if they're better for less important belts like Ninja Storm or Lost Galaxy.

Dino Charge Red had a big stupid belt buckle, and the belt was plenty flexible. There's no reason the power morphers have to be that flat to accommodate flexibility.

It does when they're seeing the stunt belts for screen accuracy.

Then the glaring issue of the not-Gold morpher starts making sense.

This thread is an absolute trip!

-People unironically arguing that the gender-swapped rangers should come with male bodies!

-Folks surprised that the MMPR Red helmet is difficult to get the proportions correct on.

Simply amazing.

i think if paint apps is undesireable, we can paint it over and called it a day....... wrong sculpt tho? we need third party artist who'll shrink the legacy mask or 3d printing your helmet files if you have one,

or waiting for individual future release like they did with marvel legends, this is hasbro we'r talking about not BoJ.
