I figure Juspion is chosen (probably chose by Toei) as it is standalon (as opposed to the space sheriff trilogy) as well as the Juspion movie coming out

This is pretty cool. My only thing is Juspion being picked. But the rights for Metalder, B-Fighters, ext are probably owned by Saban or Hasbro anyways.
That's an important factor to keep in mind, but it still makes me wonder, why not opt for Gavan?

Unless I'm mistaken, the impetus for Toei creating Metal Heroes was having their own series without any ties to Ishinomori. Apart from the 'PR contract' its yours outside of Asia approach there should be no licensing issues. (BeetleBorgs also used Janperson characters, but that's probably a non-issue)

I checked to see if this season was big oversees, and...

In February 2018 it was announced that Jaspion would get a remake movie produced by Brazilian company Sato Company, with Toei's endorsement. Cast is expected to be announced in August 2018 and the film is set to be released in 2019.
Brazil!!

It's probably just the latter. Besides, isn't the general purpose for Blu-ray is to display material in a better definition? Sure it has a lot more space, but I don't remember companies gushing over how you can have half a series of a show on one Blu-ray disc. If they could just go ahead and do that, then I'm sure almost all of them would have by now.
Even if they could I don't think they would want to. Like I said most customers equate BD with HD and you are correct that better video quality etc. was heavily used to market and promote both BD and HD-DVD, it's probably not in the interest of the labels to make BD look like DVD too often.

Doing it in this case might be a result of toku already having kind of a trashy reputation with the general public, so a "bad" picture is exactly what people expect even on BD in this case.

Do they have an obsession with space or something? Juspion's full name Kyojuu Tokusou Juspion translates to Megabeast Special Investigator Juspion. The Juspion part is already English, a portmanteau of Justice and Champion. Space Wolf (which in Japanese is Uchuu Ookami) doesn't make sense, just like how Galaxy Rangers doesn't make a lot of sense for Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger, which translates to Dinosaur Squadron Beast Rangers.
Although this term has never been used in the series, the title of Juspion´s ending theme is "Ginga Ookami Juspion". The last line of the song is "Space Wolf Juspion" in English.

yeah TOEI just like having weird English names of things. Like How the original Harmony gold dub for DragonBall in the 80s had Goku called Zero, and Torin called Whiskers the Wonder Cat. Fun fact Goku was voiced by Barbra Goodson in this dub.

Which is funny since artwork for Gavan's eyecatchs and I believe a few early costume designs where done by Ishinomori.

It'd be Hasbro now if Saban Brands ever had them (which they might do - if they only had adaptation rights, Shout's Sentai DVDs wouldn't have Saban's logo on them and be classified as Power Rangers on their website).

Whoa, Juspion? On Blu-ray?

Here's hoping for Janperson down the line.

Even that's a slight mistranslation. Ginga is Galaxy. Heck, Galaxy Rangers should've been the marketing name for Gingaman instead of Zyuranger!

"Ginga" can still be used to refer to space, translation usually isn't a 1:1 thing. Either way, the name of the ending theme is スペースウルフ, which is literally "Space Wolf".

At least Discotek makes it known that the episodes are in standard definition. So they get Brownie points for that.

Yea! Yes! Yes! My favorite MH show and a underrated gem. Some sites claim their will be extras on the disc, give me a interview with the cast from modern times and I will lose my mind! Come on Toei bring on a hypothetical "Juspion Next Generation" and I will bleed money for you.
Although Dailion should have been on the cover and not the first monsters Juspion battles.

Fantastic news.

What’s with Discotek’s Otakon panels that they are now announcing left field stuff like this? Last year, they announced Team Fourstar would be dubbing Hells and that my friend Mike would be narrating Bananya of all things.

I'm not going to lie, I'm far more intrigued about why Shout isn't doing this than getting the actual show for some reason.

Look at how well their localized MH sales went.

Sentai has found its niche with Shout, and I hope the releases will continue well into the Hasbro era and hopefully round off the back catalogue. Perhaps then, Shout will look at the other Toei heros. Or just do Kamen Rider.

He writes about toku and frequently does stuff for DVD releases, including some of Shout's. He's also hosted a few of Shout's Sentai marathons.

Yeah, no doubt the sales for VR Troopers/Beetleborgs put them off looking outside of Sentai for now. They might have eventually taken at second look at MH, but I really doubt they're beating themselves up over someone else picking up this license.
