Juspion and Message from Space Coming to the US

Discotek Media just made the announcements during their panels at Otakon. Two of Toei's earlier tokusatsu shows are going to be released as box sets on blu-ray.

Then I guess Shout! Factory won't be putting out any Metal Heroes series.

That's the official international title Toei uses.

I was watching some of Juspion in French last year. French isn't my native language but watching a toku dubbed in French really helps me grasp the language.

Anyway from whay I have seen so far, it's a pretty cool series and I was more intrigued by the series than I thought I would be.

This is great news. The more Toku stateside, the better.

  • Sentai from Shout
  • Garo from Section 23
  • Juspion (and hopefully other Metal heroes) from Discotek Media

are we in the best timeline.

Now we just need Rider

Now we just need a company to put Kamen Rider DVDs over here and we'll have it made?

Would have expected Speilvan or B-Fighter first due to the obvious; heck even Shaider. But this is still good.

I'm happy Juspion is coming but I wonder why it was chosen as the first metal heroes series to be released in the US, it feels a bit random, am I missing something?

I love that it's SD on Bluray, some german labels have done releases of of older shows in that format for years and I love it, it's so convenient not having to switch discs all the time, 46 episodes could be a bit much for one disc but they'll easily fit on two. Message from Space will definitely be a single disc release.

Saw an article on ANN talking about this, as well as other shows Discotek is bringing over, including the mecha anime Voltes V, which I heard is pretty good.

Out of curiosity, how come shout doesn't do SD on Blu-Ray for things like Power Rangers and Sentai. They've tweeted in the past that they have the Blu-Ray rights to PR. Is just a cost thing?

They'd have put them on Blu-ray if they had the proper masters of the episodes for it, and they say that there's a law that goes against putting out standard definition material on Blu-ray just for storage alone. They'd have to enhance the quality of the picture and the sound for that.

I don't know how Discotek Media has been getting away with this, but it's not like a whole lot of other major companies do it either. Mill Creek was going to put He-Man episodes on Blu-ray, but then cancelled those plans when they found that the masters they have couldn't be brought to genuine HD quality. Media Blasters was going to put out Fleet of Doom on Blu-ray, but then cancelled that, and probably for the same reason.

One reason might be that many customers equate BD with HD, it is a bit of a risk.

Is that actually a law or just a guideline by the bluray consortium? Because I can't see any government actually passing a law like that or it not being tossed by a court if it's passed. Why should it be a legal to use a storage medium (because that's what a BD is!) for storage?

It's probably just the latter. Besides, isn't the general purpose for Blu-ray is to display material in a better definition? Sure it has a lot more space, but I don't remember companies gushing over how you can have half a series of a show on one Blu-ray disc. If they could just go ahead and do that, then I'm sure almost all of them would have by now.

Do they have an obsession with space or something? Juspion's full name Kyojuu Tokusou Juspion translates to Megabeast Special Investigator Juspion. The Juspion part is already English, a portmanteau of Justice and Champion. Space Wolf (which in Japanese is Uchuu Ookami) doesn't make sense, just like how Galaxy Rangers doesn't make a lot of sense for Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger, which translates to Dinosaur Squadron Beast Rangers.

This is pretty cool. My only thing is Juspion being picked. But the rights for Metalder, B-Fighters, ext are probably owned by Saban or Hasbro anyways.
