Huh, this very premise goes against DCOMs themselves. They aren't related to disney liscenses. This could turn out interesting but if it is popular it might put a hold on original DCOMs for a while.

Given Gaston's nature, I wouldn't be surprised if he turned out to be a deadbeat dad and his kid became a part of the cast of villain seeds. Would make some interesting drama with this newly crowned king granting them amnesty given how Gaston was trying to get in his mother's pants and tried to kill his father when he was a beast.

I would also prefer to see this animated - it's nice enough to cast someone as, say, Gaston's child, but it would be more fun if they had some resemblance to him, and that would be far easier to do by drawing than trying to find a real person who looks like him.

Besides that, if it's a DCOM, then odds are in favor of most (if not all) of the leads being played by the stars of Disney/XD's current lineup.

Yeah, come to think of it, what was the last DCOM that got a lot of hype and attention? The last one I recall is this one surfing movie that's played in tongue-in-cheek.

I guess Dove is Disney's new it girl.

Dove Cameron to Star in Disney Channel’s ‘Descendants’

Disney Channel is adding even more oomph to its push to turn Dove Cameron into a signature star for the Mouse House. She’s been cast as the lead in its “Descendants” telepic revolving around the offspring of iconic Disney villains.

Cameron will play Mal, daughter of Maleficent, the evil witch from 1959′s “Sleeping Beauty.” She’s the ringleader of a group of teenage kids of famed Disney villains who wind up tangling with the good-hearted son of the King and Queen from “Beauty and the Beast,” among others.

Kenny Ortega is directing the telepic, which is set to begin production in the spring for a 2015 debut. That timing ensures that the teenage Mal character will draft off the attention for Angelina Jolie’s turn as the horn-bedecked baddie in the live-action “Maleficent,” set for release next summer.

Cameron, who turns 18 on Jan. 15, at present stars in the Disney Channel comedy “Liv and Maddie,” and she will be seen next month in the cabler’s snowboarding-themed telepic “Cloud 9.”

The Mouse is also revving up Cameron’s music career, with vids running on Disney Channel for her track on the recent compilation album “Disney Holidays Unwrapped.” The “Descendants” role will also call for some singing.

“Dove is a multi-dimensional actress whose undeniable charisma allows her to conjure the many facets of Mal, the sharp-edged yet vulnerable daughter of one of Disney’s most wicked villains,” said Judy Taylor, Disney Channels Worldwide’s senior veep of casting and talent relations.

So how is this Dove girl? She any good? I've seen my share of DCOM stars and starlets so I'm rather curious. Her being Maleficent's kid I guess is to be expected, and a shoehorn for Descendants coming off of the live action Maleficent movie.

She does really good with Liv & Maddie. I often forget that they're played by the same actress.

Of course it will! Because Disney can't just have an actress who is... just an actress.

Disney pretty much gave up on the premise of DCOMs. They're now just further vehicles for their "Pet Project" actors. That's when they can even be bothered that much. Like this year which featured ONE, count them ONE DCOM. Sorry, I just used to really like DCOMs and I hate how much they've devolved.

I can hardly blame them, though. What is Disney best known for, aside from its animation? Its music, and its songs in particular. Hell, one of their most controversial casting decisions was Demi Moore in Hunchback, because she wasn't a singer.

If they're of the caliber of their animated movie songs, then fine, but I doubt they will be.

Not sure why, it was pretty common for them to have separate people for the speaking and singing voice back then. It wasn't until recently that they aim to use the same for both. I cant think of any examples of separating them lately.

I just hope they include the Lion King despite that cast being animals.

If people were fans it'll bring them in regardless, & if someone didnt see the movie, it doesnt matter anyway. Nothing in that movie was crutial to them being animals.

Now, THAT was a fanfic idea I had to include Gargoyles into th overall disney-verse. By having Brooklyn time dance & meet the cast of each movie & team-up with them. The Lions were a Gargoyle clan, & the heiynas would have been some kind of race of African mythical monster, whatever their version of Orcs, goblin, Satyr, Frost-Giants were.

But I guess we have the Avengers to blame for this. Vampires are over, Zombies & werewolves are not as interesting, pirates never caught on, its the era of fairy tales, & shared universes.

They should get Leo Howard to play Belle & Adam's son. The kid does look like a live action version of Adam.

Belle and Adam (The Beast)'s son has been cast.

Disney Channel's s Descendants, the live-action TV movie centered on classic villains' kids, has found Belle's teenage son.

Disney Channel Orders Original Movie Centered on Iconic Villains' Kids
Australian actor and newcomer Mitchell Hope has joined the cast as Ben, the benevolent teenage son of the King (Beast) and Queen (Belle). Descendants marks Hope's first U.S. project.

Said Judy Taylor, Disney Channel's senior vp president of casting and talent: "We were intrigued by Mitchell's natural acting style, boyish charm and winning personality and when we brought him to Los Angeles to read opposite Dove [Cameron], it was apparent that he embodied the inherent good nature of 'Ben' and the sense of fairness that the character represents."
