Glad to hear that apparently I'm not the only one kind of underwhelmed with this season so far.

It's a slow start to say the least. And they're doing a Game of Thrones, in that every episode has to have tits in at some I miss the times of the Watchdogs giving orders rather than random alliances to do shit.

I right there with you. 5 eps in, and 2 flashes of the titular hero's armour, 1 flash of a secondary armour and the third yet to armour up.

Episode 4 was a complete waste in my opinion, both 4 & 5 should have been merged, uping the pace of the story for once.

I've said ti before, Kouga had direction, motivation. These punks have nothing. I'm feeling disappointed.

I'm more dissappointed by the fact that we've seen NO PRACTICAL ARMOR just the stupid CGI stuff, still enjoying the story though

I've been enjoying it; it's like a Garo version of UltraSeven X. Not in a ripping-it-off way, just that Amemiya seems to be aiming for the same tonal quality. It's also very much on the action-in-service-of-the-story end of things, rather than the other way around, which definitely isn't the norm for toku.

(Which makes sense - most shows need to establish how much the kids should want the toys, and you do that through putting the toys in cool action scenes. Garo has an established hardcore-nerd collector market, though, who are pretty much coming in already sold on the figures, so it has some room to avoid "showing off the toys to show the toys off" scenes.)

I was actually kind of glad when episode 4 ended without an obligatory suit scene, because one of U7X's weaker points was that there were episodes that ended naturally and then you could see the writers go "oh shit right this is Ultraman" and there's a last-second snag that requires about 10 seconds of suit footage. It takes you out of things.

Of course, I also feel like 4 and 5 absolutely needed to be separate episodes because they were about two entirely different things that both needed the breathing room of an entire episode to happen.

Mind you, this isn't a "god you're all WRONG and should APPRECIATE this because I do and my tastes are PERFECT" post. It's just that I'm getting stuff out of the show that isn't to most of y'all's tastes, so I didn't want the record to say everyone was bored by the show, because not everyone is? Yeah.

(The lack of practical suits is annoying, but I resigned myself to that during Makai Senki. The last practical suit we got was Dan, wasn't it? That was years ago, and we've seen a number of new knights since then. It just wasn't so noticeable because the practical-suited ones were still around.)

The pacing reminds me of the first Garo series, which moves extremely slow, and doesn't seem to have much in the way of an overarching plot. The second series felt like it moved faster because it wasn't just Kouga's story, it was an ensemble cast, so you had multiple characters outside of the original core group to focus on throughout the series. Plus it established the underlying series-long plot right there in the first episode, so right away you knew the stakes had been raised. This series has multiple characters, but their focus still seems to be on the central character in the Garo armor and his development. Which is very slow, at the moment. The only major mystery we've really got to deal with at this moment is why the Garo armor has lost its radiance, but nobody outside of Zaruba and the old guy seems to be very concerned about it.

TV-N's sub is out.
There was 10 seconds of armor. He flashed into the armor, cut down a horror, and flashed out. Blink and you'll miss it.

The first Garo raised expectations for a show. This is so disappointing.

Gotta say, episode 7 was nice, expecially the ending. You could really feel the drama.
Not a fan of Ikeda's armour though.

I loved 7, I felt it was one of the stronger episodes. I always kind of liked Takeru, but this episode gave us a better look at him, and made me like him more. I'm eager to see where this goes.

The CGI seemed pretty off in this episode, or maybe it just really stood out more than usual, there was just something off about it.

7 episodes in and we see the last of the main armours. Most episodes have a sliver of armour. It's appalling. It wouldn't be so bad if the show was more story driven but there seems to be little of overarching plot, just throwaway lines.

The first Garo had the "100 days to cure Karou" as the main plot, with each episode being pretty much side story to showcase more about Horrors and Makai Knights; Maki Senki had the "Seal of destruction" plot. Garo 3 should have "What is going on in Vol City with these Madou Horrors? Oh, why is Garo not all Golden BTW?", but it really doesn't seem to be showing through from these 8 episodes so far. When we are graced with an armour scene, it's pretty much blink and it's gone.

That being said, 7 was a great episode, and it's good to see them continuing with the fallout from 7 into 8. If it carries on, then it's the first good thing about this series.

Some people are assuming the minimal armor scenes are to save up the budget for bigger fights in the back half of the season, similar to what Senki did.

As I recall, not even the first series had that much transformed action in the early episodes. Kouga would often spend a good portion of the fight without his armour, transform, deliver the final blow and power down again.

Though I do agree that we need a little more focus on the overall plot points.

Indeed. Like I said earlier in the thread, we didn't really get longer, extended fight scenes until pivotal climax episodes, like the Garo vs. Zero fight, or the final fight. People seem to be forgetting that. The armored sequences were always fairly minimal in the first series. In the second series, we did typically get some longer sequences, but remember, the shorter fights are still justified by the armor users' knowledge that they have only a limited time to fight in their armors. The first series showed what would happen if someone stayed in the armor too long beyond the time limit.

I do have issues with this series, but the lack of focus on the armored fighting surely isn't one of them.

It's not the lack of focus on armoured fight, it's just how little there is. Even in the first series, you had the timer and the sequence was slightly slowed down so you at least got a minute or so of in suit action. Here it seems to be blink and it's gone. Also, for a main character to only armour up after 7 episodes seems a bit crap really. I'd rather they all at least armoured up once an ep, even if to deliver the final blow, just so the suits get some damn screen time.
