Jon Favreau's The Lion King (2019)

So following on from his success with the live action Jungle Book now Jon Favreau is going to direct a live action Lion King for Disney.

Other than the innovative technology I don't know why this should be made considering how it won't look any different to the animated film since the characters are all animals. I don't know about this one and I liked the live action Jungle Book and am cautious but also hoping the new Beauty and the Beast is good but with this I'm not sure.

So... the ground and the plants are going to be live action, then? Because I doubt they're going to train a bunch of lions to act.

I would'nt mind them just adapting the live stage shows into a movie, with living actors only they're tribesmen or something.

Probably as otherwise I'm not sure how you could do a live action version of a movie with no human characters.

Film Lions and just have voice actors yell lines over the footage. I'd love to see that.

I'm not surprised that this is happening after the success of The Jungle Book. Plus, The Lion Guard is very popular right now. I'm guessing that they might get Rob Lowe to voice Simba again since he is a big celebrity. The thing about the original film is that a lot of the cast-members who did the voices are still alive. However, Disney is likely to cast new peoplle because they probably think stunt-casting will help draw crowds, but they really don't need to since it's one of the companies most valuable properties. I'm guessing that they will still get James Earl Jones to voice Mufasa again because his voice is most obviously legendary. Plus, he's still doing numerous projects for Disney like voicing Darth Vader in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

I wonder if they will squeeze a human plot line in. Maybe something do to with poachers?

I think motion capture will be amazing for the actors who star in the movie. It will be like a play or improve for them.

If it involves the same people that made the recent Jungle Book film, I'm sold.

And as long as that get JEJ to voice Mufasa again.

It's literally the only valuable part of his entire character.

Then, the Kimba the White Lion connections would be there.

He can now be adult Simba!!!

I love this news. My top 2 favourite animated films of all time is The Lion King and Aladdin. And I gotta say despite Alice In Wonderland and Maleficent dropping the ball, Cinderella and The Jungle Book have been great. I watched The Jungle Book on blu-ray a few more times since it's release in theatres, and gotta say, I love it more and more, each time.

Not to mention Disney has Beauty And The Beast coming out next year, and from everything I've been seeing and hearing of that has me just as excited. I think Disney cracked the code with their live action remakes.

okay, I could understand all the films like Beauty and the Beast and Cinderella, there has been several live action movies (anyone else watch those films in school?)

but Lionking? isn't that one of Disney's few original ips?

Technically speaking, yes. But it draws heavily from Kimba the White Lion.

It's kinda like calling Frozen an original IP.

Also the fact that it's basically Hamlet with lions.

...you know as well as I do that's all circumstantial evidence predicated on sheer coincidence.
