Star Fox 2 was effectively complete when canned. It was canned to prop up the 64 and make Star Fox 2 more exciting as it uses elements from 2.
Yeah, there's a mostly finished ROM floating around on the internet (with an English fan translation no less) and the developer of the original has stated he does have a complete copy of the game in his possession, it's nice to see it finally getting an official release though.

Since Star Fox 2 is unreleased, I'm hoping they are making enough. No excuses this time.

Hey, at least it's not an excuse.

I'm so glad that it's finally official! I can't wait to play all of the classics, especially Super Mario Bros. World. Plus, here is the first official image.

Nintendo has announced the SNES Classic, which will release on September 29th for $80 and include the previously unreleased Star Fox 2.

Contra III: The Alien Wars™
Donkey Kong Country™
EarthBound™
Final Fantasy III
F-ZERO™
Kirby™ Super Star
Kirby’s Dream Course™
The Legend of Zelda™: A Link to the Past™
Mega Man® X
Secret of Mana
Star Fox™
Star Fox™ 2
Street Fighter® II Turbo: Hyper Fighting
Super Castlevania IV™
Super Ghouls ’n Ghosts®
Super Mario Kart™
Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars™
Super Mario World™
Super Metroid™
Super Punch-Out!! ™
Yoshi’s Island™
If that gets a UK release, it'll be the first physical release for several of the games. Earthbound, Final Fantasy VI, and Mario RPG were all no-shows here (I guess they thought Europeans wouldn't like Japanese RPGs) until their later ports and Virtual Console releases.

So do I. Mario World and All-Stars came with my SNES (which cost £92 in 1997 - I was never up to date with video games, my previous system was a Commodore 64), and Kart and Yoshi's Island were the first games I bought for it.

Hmm... does the UK version call the Star Fox games Starwing? The Star Fox name wasn't used on the SNES and N64 games here.

Yep The same games are included, and all games are in 60hz, like in the US.

According to the UK site (https://www.nintendo.co.uk/Misc-/Nin...m-1238330.html), they're calling them Star Fox and Star Fox 2. As I said above, the games are the US versions to take advantage of being in 60hz. The Star Fox/Starwing issue doesn't matter anymore of course, so it's fine in that respect too.

Man, I want it so much. A pity it'll be costing an arm here, specially with Nintendo no longer in my country

Exactly. They did a good job with the Switch, and I was totally on pins and needles about that at first. It seems like anyone who preordered actually got one.

I like how one day everyone's pissed that the NES classic was done with their run but then here comes SNES and Starfox2 and everyone loses their shit. I'm pretty sure it'll get hacked haha.

I wonder if it'll use the SNES ports or the standard Wii port.

No doubt the Wii controller port again. So that means SNES Wiicontrollers released a few years ago will be compatible.

I find it hard to get excited over this because it's gonna be another NES mini situation where Nintendo only makes a limited number for some reason, and most of us have no chance of getting their hands on one.

Seriously, have Nintendo ever stated why they made so few of the NES mini and refused to make any more? Do they suddenly hate money or something?

Okay well, according to this article, the controller cords will be longer than the ones for the NES Classic controllers. They'll be about five feet long.

Production space. They only have so much factory floor and only intended NESmini to be on sale a limited time to begin with. They needed those factories making Switch consoles to prep for launch.

Tbey actually went back and did another production run of NESmini due to the demand, but it was more of a csse of squeezing out the remainder production space before going dedicated Switch production.

SNESmini will be produced in greater numbers from now until December. So this production run was better planned.

Good, looks like they're really shaping up to make up for last time. This is, like, total redemption for me because when I was 10-12, my older cousin gave me his SNES and games for free. Eventually for whatever stupid reason I gave it back. A few years later I asked him whatever happened to it, and he said he sold everything.

Few nitpicks I have:

1. Wish that it was either Donkey Kong Country 2 or 3. 1 is my least favorite of the trilogy.
2. Wish that they could somehow change the coding to make the game say Final Fantasy VI instead of III.
3. Wish it was Super Street Fighter II instead of Hyper Fighting so we could've gotten Deejay, Fei Long, T.Hawk and Cammy.

I will also be amused if it turns out that this official Star Fox 2 will be so loved that it'll end up getting better reviews and reception than Star Fox 0.

The amazing thing about Star Fox 2 is that it's coming out at all, while the legal confusion over the Super FX Chip rights exist. That's why we never got it via digital emulation on Wii or 3DS.

Meaning either Nintendo, while producing new physical hardware created a brand new chip that essentially has the same end result or the spent a fair amount of time remaking parts of the game and coding to make it work without the Super FX Chip. Either is possible, after they made new GameCube controller hardware (adapter) and remade several games to work without special hardware (Mario 64 DS, Yoshi Island GBA , etc).

That's a lot of work however it was done, just to give SNES Classic a unique title we can't get any other way legally.
